Darwin nods, looking at Hamish guiltily. "I was afraid you were...", he says to Hamish unable to finish the thought. "That was too close", he finishes.
He turns to Ida, smiles and mouths the words 'thank you'.
"Are none of you interested in how those things got in there?", he asks the others. "I wouldn't mind a quick look once we are rested up, but if you'd all rather leave that's ok"
The sun is now almost entirely set, the sky is a burnt orange color and you can see some oil lanterns being lit around the docks, as the work is never done on the docks.

Darwin sits down close to the cage, and lifts the tarp up exposing one side, taking a look at the creature. He is very careful not to use any magic, but he is curious about it. He tries to communicate with it using sounds and gestures as he would a regular cat or rabbit, but it doesn't seem to react. He tilts his head to one side and leans closer, still safely out of reach, and studies it for a few moments.
With a 17, you can tell that this is not a naturally occuring creature. You're not sure what exactly created it but it is definitely created by something, and extrapolating data from it's reaction to magic, you presume that it's probably created from magic.
Hamish gives a tight lipped smile to Darwin at his concern. It's still strange to think these people were actually concerned for him after a life of people not even noticing his presence.
As Toryn sits and patches himself up, Hamish looks down at himself and finds the healing from Ida to have gotten him almost back to brand new.
Instead of resting, Hamish makes his way over to Darwin and watches the cat from a safe distance. Eventually, he speaks up, "Darwin? How do you know if you can do magic?"
Toryn overhears the comment. Ain't nothing but evil come from magic. Things that can't be seen gives me the shivers I tell ya. Toryn looks at the cat. There's the proof
Hamish looks at his hands, then gently touches the scar on his neck. He looks up at the cat and tries to speak up, his voice raspy with the effort, "But did this creature make itself? If magic can make monsters, who is to blame? The monsters or those who made them? I was always told I was evil, something to be feared and killed. And they tried. My own family hanged me. I was only saved because of a kind-hearted stranger. And maybe the reason I've been able to stay alive is because of magic. If there is magic inside of me, I'd rather know how to use it properly, to help others, than for it to be an out of control danger ... like these creatures." Hamish crouches beside the cage, still out of the cat's reach, and ponders the mysterious beast while chewing on his lip.
"Went well. We believe we killed all but the one who's in the trap. We've checked and couldn't.fond anymore. May be a bit of mess in there, but none of the crates or goods inside were damaged during."
Ida smiles at Aldheim, happy to be able to say the job is complete and that they were able to do it without any catastrophes along the way. She's hopeful that if they need work in the future, he will remember and hire them.
'I'll be damned, y'all pulled it off.' he grins, which is honestly a touch disturbing of an expression on a Dragonborn. 'Well den, I take back what I said about the Duke and y'all. I'm gon' turn in but I thank y'all deeply.'
YOU SENT US TO DIE! Toryn spits toward Anheim in disgust. He is livid towards the guide who brought them here, believing the disappearance right at the time of battle was not coincidental. Ida, dont'cha see? He's with them!
Toryn is disgusted by what he's seeing in front of him and storms away.
Aldheim visibly bristles. 'Now, Hoss, imma give ya a chance to repeat yaself there, cos I'm sure I misheard ya' his hand moves to his waist, brushing back his heavy jacket, and comes to rest on the hilt of his sword. 'Cos I coulda sworn I heard some fightin' words.'
You heard what I said. So what is it? Are ya with them or are ya a coward? Toryn looks to the others for support. Can't ye see? He disappeared the second he smelled a fight. Now he returns to claim OUR victory as his own!
give me the chance to repeat myself? he mutters. How about justifying yourself to US!
Toryn is clearly angered by the arrogance of the dock master. From his words it seems his anger comes from a place of betrayal over all.

Darwin looks to Hamish curiously. "I guess magic can be something you discover about yourself. In my case I was shown or taught magic. Either by my family growing up or by the performers in the carnival. More recently..."
He gets distracted by Toryn's rant at Aldheim and puts his hand over his eyes, shakes his head and sighs.
"Toryn, what are you doing? Aldheim here was never our guide, or meant to fight with us", he says to Toryn exasperated.
He turns to Aldheim, "Please don't take any notice of our friend here, he gets confused and ignores plans and becomes even more disagreeable than normal it seems", he says apologetically, surprising himself that he can be diplomatic. It must be from watching Ida.
Aldheim draws his sword. 'Son, draw your weapon. I ain't killed an unarmed man in my life I ain't starting now.' he turns to Darwin 'I'm sorry, but all a man has in this life is his honor, and a man must be accountable for his words.'
Aldheim shrugs, sheeves his sword and says 'Don't say I didn't give you a fair chance.' and darts forward.
You manage to narrowly dodge out of the way as his clawed hands swings an inch from your nose, and are probably feeling pretty cocky about it, which is probably why you don't even see the blur of his next two strikes that hit you in quick succession for 20 points of damage.
The entire party is now outside.
Aldheim is still missing
"I suggest a short rest while we wait for Aldheim. We have injuries to tend to" Toryn says, gingerly poking his wound. The cat isn't going anywhere.
Darwin nods, looking at Hamish guiltily. "I was afraid you were...", he says to Hamish unable to finish the thought. "That was too close", he finishes.

Aldheim trundles over, his formerly bare chest now covered under a heavy jacket that the sun has gone down.
'Well, y'all are still alive. How'd it go, or have you's still not gone in yet?' he asks with a hint of teasing to his tone.

Put that away. I'm not fighting you to the death. Just until yer unconscious and bloodied up a bit. Fists shall be the weapon.
Aldheim shrugs, sheeves his sword and says 'Don't say I didn't give you a fair chance.' and darts forward.
