Darwin watches the interaction between Solvig and Agnarr. Families!
He listens as Ida introduces them all and pleads their case for keeping the ship. So he is Erik now, then. He gives a flourishing bow as he is introduced.
"Unless of course, you have a better way to get us to our destination?", he interjects as Caper returns from his position out of danger to sit on his shoulder.
"Go and find the fare we paid for this passage", he telepathically instructs Caper, worried if Solvig scutters the ship their coin may be lost.
Solvig shakes his head, 'This vessel is a symbol of the crimes it was used to carry out. I can arrange for you and the crew to be carried directly to shore but this ship is form a new reef beneath the waves.' he says, 'I have no interest in gold, fair knight, I only care for what is right.'
Caper flits to the Captain's corpse and begins to attempt to tug the coin pouch from his belt, alerting Solvig's attention to the presence of the invisible creature.
The Sea King arches an eyebrow and looks back to the party, 'Apparently someone cares about coin though.'
"Well that is less than helpful", Darwin says a bit dejectedly.
"Oh, he is with me, don't worry. Just getting our fare back, seeing as we didn't make our destination", he says motioning at the spot where Caper is invisibly wriggling about trying to get the pouch.
"We are working to try to right something as well. The brother of Agnarr is causing mayhem on shore. Many have died at his hand and due to his dealings. He is actively parading as others to accomplish his list of tasks, he's not in the business of crafting war machinery, he is tinkering with powerful beings in the Feywild, and has actively worked to keep Agnarr imprisoned so he cannot interfere. If he is to be stopped, we will need help. I appeal to your sense of justice, to please allow us to use a vessel for the next 4 Days. If this needs to be scuttled immediately, we understand. If there is another vessel you could direct us to or to help us by allowing us to borrow something from your fleet, we would be most appreciative."
“I imagine you would find it amusing to have your nephew owe you such a debt for helping him as well. There is nothing quite so fulfilling as being the one to help a rival in their hour of need, it just eats them up inside”, Darwin adds with a wicked grin, appealing to Solvig’s vanity.
Solvig looks unmoved by Ida's pleas, 'You make a good argument, dame.' He says flatly, 'But the troubles of the land are not my concern and I have already suffered enough from the ambitions of his blood.' He shoots a glare at Agnarr.
Darwin's words bring a slight shift in his demeanour and his head cocks slightly to one side, 'Well now, small one, that is an interesting idea.' he seems to ponder it. 'But you know, this would also mean you three are also in my debt...' he begins to smile, a plan formulating.
Hamish is finally stunned out of his silence and simply says in a near shriek, "Nephew?!" He turns and, while getting the sense that Solvig is not someone to anger, his emotions boil over as he says, "So what's right is punishing innocent people simply standing next to the target of your vengeance? If Agnarr's brother gets what he wants, he'll have a weapon powerful enough to not only destroy the land but threaten the sea as well. And he'll get it if we can't stop him in time. I'm tired of this idea that we need to wheedle and beg with every person who inherited a fancy title when all we're trying to do is help people! The world gave me the worst hand I could be dealt. I was born with a power I didn't ask for and nearly killed by own kin just for being different. I refuse to be a victim again!" As Hamish speaks, magic pulses around him in rapidly shifting colors like an oil sheen that increases in frequency and sound as he builds to his final sentence.
((Would it be appropriate to roll on Wild Magic for this outburst?))
The magic continues to flicker through colors at increasing speed and a whine of ethereal energy starts to rise when suddenly the magic stops on the color purple and just pulses gently before fading back to a gentle glow. Hamish's face betrays his surprise and he sheepishly whispers, "I'm sorry. I don't know what that was. I am frustrated and tired and I hurt from the fight, but that anger was something else. Like someone tugging on it to make it worse, but also maybe that someone is also me? It feels hard to explain." In a puff of lavender smoke , Hamish disappears from view, but it's easy to see him sitting in the crow's nest silently looking out at sea, his shoulders slumping in shame.
Solvig watches the scene unfold with a steel calm but an astute observer would have noticed his grip tighten on his trident.
When the sorcerer misty steps, he flinches just ever so slightly that none of the party would notice. Realizing that more violence will not be occurring, not imminently at all, he clears his throat.
'The warmongering of the southern islanders is well known. What they do on the land does not concern me.' He makes this point clear. 'But, if you swear a debt to me and use this ship against one of the kin of Kjartan, even if it means helping one of them in Agnarr, then I am willing to place the ship, and its crew, into your possession.' He proclaims.
Ida makes a decision, which she may regret later. But at this point, she cannot agree to put Hamish and Darwin into a debt with a man that is apparently a sworn enemy of Agnarr.
She looks at Solvig, with enough anger in her eyes that he can easily see it. She then begins to almost radiate energy, her eyes beginning to glow and wings sprouting on her back. "Agnarr, watch him closely" she states with a level of authority not often used. She then flies to the crows nest to speak with Hamish. She smiles as she approaches, and reaches a hand out to touch Hamish's shoulder and the other to allow Caper to realize she isn't a threat. She winks at Caper before she speaks
"He is asking to be owed a debt, and I'm not putting you or any of us in a position to owe him a debt. Is is possible for you to return to the deck? I don't want any decisions to be made without your input. You have acted bravely and I am proud to be by your side, whatever comes next."
Darwin watches Ida ascend to the crow's nest, ever impressed by her winged form, and dips into Caper's senses to listen to what she is saying to Hamish.
He comes back to himself and looks up at Solvig.
"You know, so far on this world I have met some real good people. People I class as friends", he says looking at the crow's nest. "But there have also been some right shitty people as well. Like, properly shitty", he says to Solvig, keeping his voice low so Ida and Hamish don't hear what he is saying.
"You had a chance to be a decent person here, but in truth, you have blown it. You say you are all about doing what is right and just, but you are full of shit", he says getting heated himself. "I am not interested in coin, just what is right!", he mimics. "And then you ask for us to swear to be in your debt. It's been but a minute or so, and already you prove your words are false".
"I'm with Hamish, we do you a favour and help take on the captain and his thugs. It doesn't matter that you might have defeated them anyway, we helped without having to bargain for a debt first. We are the ones interested in just and right. You are just a self centred, bitter, shitty person. You should be ashamed of yourself!", he finishes.
"And if some hard truths make you violent, then just know this is my own personal opinion, leave the other's out of this".
Hamish looks up at Ida's touch and nods at her words, grateful for her kindness. "Okay. Thank you. And I'm sorry I got mad." Hamish carefully steps out of the crow's nest and climbs down the mast, approaching Darwin and Agnarr and purposefully looking anywhere but at Solvig.
Solvig sneers at the gnome. 'You are a foolish child.' he says simply. 'I am a King, my interests are to protect my realm while the Grand Confederation, Okoku and the Southern Islands threaten it constantly. I am made of such an assault upon this realm and I have been forged by many more. To let this ship leave sends a message, one I do not like to send. I do not know you, I know you sailed aboard a pirate vessel with a member of a family known for pillage, plunder, and senseless violence. You took up arms against this pirate captain and then sought to take gold from his body.' He crouches so that he is eye level.
In his eyes, you don't see anger, perse. You see an iron will and resolve, a driving faith in his morals, actions, and judgment.
'I have taken you at face value and the moment I ask for something more tangible to back up your claims, you spit spiteful words and call it truth.' He spits to one side. 'Something in the tale I am told does not make sense, Erik, and yet I still choose to have faith in the Dame's honor and those who would travel with her.' He straightens.
'You do not even think to ask what the debt would be, you merely assume it would be something that would leave a sour taste in your mouth. Go ashore, other-worlder, take your fae born weapon, dishonorable barbarian, and flying knight with you.' He waves a hand dismissively and several Orca whales surface along side the ship, circling it. 'Consider it a token of my hospitality that I provide you with transport.'
He goes about helping the former pirate crew over the railings and down onto the backs of the whales below.
“You have given us no reason to trust it would be anything other than sour tasting. We have proved by our deeds that we do what is right. I explained the coins are those we gave him for passage unfulfilled. I will be gladly leaving your presence”, Darwin replies and heads off to gather his things.
He turns back, “Oh, and these are my spiteful words, and they are the truth as I see it. The others speak for themselves”.

Darwin takes a little step as he watches Hamish lose his temper.
"Now you've done it", he whispers.
"Best take to the skies", he telepathically communicates to Caper, who has been relieving the Captain's body of it's coin purse.
Oooooh buddy, roll that wild magic roll with disadvantage sir! We'll resolve the results of the tirade based on the outcome.
The magic continues to flicker through colors at increasing speed and a whine of ethereal energy starts to rise when suddenly the magic stops on the color purple and just pulses gently before fading back to a gentle glow. Seeing Hamish distressed, Darwin sends Caper to keep him company, whilst he focusses on Solvig's reaction.
Caper flies up to the crow's nest, becomes visible and cuddles up next to Hamish, nudging his arm to get nice and close.
"It was a pretty light show", Caper says in Sylvan.
Hamish stares, wide-eyed, at the faerie dragon. "I can understand you? My life is so weird now. And thanks."
Solvig watches the scene unfold with a steel calm but an astute observer would have noticed his grip tighten on his trident.
