"Well, when you put it like that." Aelyn says with a wide smile. "I've been talked into things with a lot less flatter than that, you got yourself a wingman or whatever you would call me." He says, glancing back at the others, making sure they won't get separated.
Aithne fell into step alongside Ambre, keeping pace with her companion. With her sleeves rolled up, Aithne hardly noticed the damp that had resulted from her dip into the Snarl, but she was wildly curious to see what Ambre would offer as a solution. Magic, as Avrol had suggested? Or some kind of invention? Ambre's collection had been impressive, if confusing. Bits of wire and metal and gears cobbled together in a tangle that Aithne couldn't hope to decipher. Maybe if their rooms were close enough together in the dormitories, she could ask about some of the constructions she'd seen? There were a few things she'd wished for as a scholar that she would have loved to invent, had she been capable. An ink bottle that never spilled, for example. Or an alarm clock that could survive crashing into a wall. Those sorts of things.
Ambre unclips a small metal disk from her belt and messes with it for a bit, before finally it seems to snap to attention and starts to change shape. After a few moments it's turned itself into a small mechanical creature.
"Oh!" Aithne's eyes widened, appearing almost twice as large behind the lenses of her glasses. Her hands clasped together in front of her and she watched in fascination as Ambre assembled the mechanical construct.
The small disk hops from Ambre's hands to Aithne's wet sleeve, humming and rattling as it seems to absorbe the liquid and leave the sleeve dry. Ambre whoops in excitement, only for the disk too make an odd popping noise and drop to the group.
"Darn it... still got things to work out," Ambre scoops up the disk and pockets it. "Oh well... I'll get it figured out."
"That was incredible!" Aithne impulsively hugged Ambre, giving the other girl a light squeeze before releasing her. "What a marvelous invention. How ever did you do that?"
"Whoa, you actually made something off the top of your head to do that Ambre? Impressive!" Arvol says. "Maybe..." he starts to say as he takes a step towards the pair. He then stops short as Aithne impulsively hugs the other woman. "I mean... I'll bet you'll have that working in no time Ambre."
He quickly turns back, moving along the way they were heading. "That's the Gallery over there, right Aelyn?" he says.
Aelyn stands back, watching as Ambre let's her impressive invention almost do what was intended. He tilts his head and smiles as Aithne gives her a hug, looking between Aithne, Ambre and Arvol, nodding at Arvol as he continues towards the art gallery. "So, already artificing Ambre, bravo. Would you consider artificing a musical instrument. I have been thinking of something lika a cembalo but with the ability to ceate any sound found in a nature, or maybe even artificial sounds. Would make for an interesting challenge, wouldn't you say Ambre?"
It really was marvelous. Her sleeve was completely dry. Something that would have taken hours normally was completed in mere moments. It was rather like magic, but far more complicated in her estimation. If she studied, Aithne could probably name each of the components used to construct the mechanical marvel. She could describe the process used for assembly and the steps in which to complete it. She might even be able to explain the purpose of each item used in the construction. But to actually build something so novel? To imagine a device and assemble it with such speed and precision? Mentally, she shook her head. No. She'd stick to her books and the manipulation of spellcraft. Her skills lay in magic, not mechanics.
"Oh I've been trying to develope something that can do a whole bunch of different things. Quality of life stuff you know?" Ambre rambles on as Aithne hugs her. "Heating and cooling things, drying stuff off, minor cleaning. I started out with a thin sheet of metal and a book of gnomish and elven magic runes and worked from therr but clearly something's still off... hmm..."
At the idea for a music instrument Ambre seems elated, "Oh that sounds so interesting, and tricky to make. I accept!"
"If you'd let me I could help you out with the musical aspects of the artificing Ambre, like tuning and such, making it a true instrument. You would be the one to play it of course when it is completed. We might even start a band together." Aelyn says smiling at Ambre, grabbing his lute and striking a suspended chord as they enter the art gallery.
You all make your way from the Hall of Oracles to the nearby Student and Alumni Art Gallery. On the way, you pass by one of the Book Gardens, making a mental note of its location before pressing on to the gallery. It is a crisp-looking room with white walls and columns that stretch from floor to ceiling. Displayed on and within the walls are various works of art, from paintings to statues to mosaics and more. There are some benches available for viewers to sit and admire the art. A few Prismari students, dressed in their red and blue uniforms, are in the space, some cleaning while others are examining the art pieces with studious intent. Seated at a table about midway into the gallery is a young elf man with bright green hair, tanned skin, and dressed in a first year's uniform. He appears to be using magic to create a statuette composed entirely of hard light fractals. Draped down the front of the table is a sign that says "Calling All Creators - Join the Distinguished Society of Fine Artists today!"
"Alright we're here, no shimmering pool this time but I guess we need to do something here, something inspiring perhaps." Aelyn says, checking if there are means available for him to create art, like the green-haired elf does. Otherwise he will just use his own magic to create an illusion of Arvol sneaking with a looking glass, Aithne balancing a huge stack of books in front of her and Ambre with a crowbar, standing in front of some mysterious steam-powered machine. Performance: 7"Meh, sorry, not very inspiring that." He says, quickly dismissing it all.
"Oh maybe," Ambre says. "'I'll need to gather supplies and tools and stuff first."
She follows the others into the art gallery, and is almost immediatly distracted by the elf manipulating hard light. She rushes over, "Hard light projections? That's so cool!"
There are no means for making art here, unfortunately.
The elf looks up and smiles at Ambre. "Hey, thanks! It isn't easy organizing fractal equations in this manner; it can actually be pretty painstaking sometimes, but it always turns out looking pretty cool! With math and magic, anything is possible!"He says with an air of mock-seriousness. "Are you an artist, too? I'm Cadoras, first year! What's your name?"
"Ambre Rotz," Ambre smiles. "And I dont know if my dad would call me an artist, but I really like making things." She pulls out the half-shattered glass piece in her bag. "Of course, I'm still learning," she laughs. "'But i blew this myself. I was working on details but then it shattered on me."
Cadoras inspects the glass and cracks a smile. "So... you broke it... one could say... you blew it?"He quips with a chuckle. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist the pun. You set me up for it. That's actually pretty good! Honestly, I kind of like that it's broken. It's almost like an inspirational metaphor or something; even with all of our flaws and cracks, we're still worthwhile. Something like that, you know? But anyway, it's nice to meet you, Ambre! Hey, you should join the Society! There are a couple other glassblowers - maybe you guys could compare techniques. It'd be smashing! Glass-breaking pun somewhat intended."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Aelyn seemingly disappointed over not having means to create something inspiring instead strolls through the gallery, looking at it's beauties, but also the art. Perception if needed to spot some clue to what we're supposed to do now: 10
