Hark, mildly torn between staying near the snarl with Robin and Canon, decides at last to follow Jedavii and Marius. "If indeed we're bound for the amphitheater, let us hope this is neither a tragedy nor comedy."
Just before stepping towards the snarl, Robin glances after the two running towards the theater. "Meet us in the cafe instead, that is likely another of the places we need to go. We'll likely be done here by the time you get to the theater after all."
Robin and Canon stay behind to check out the snarl while the rest of the group rushes to the amphitheater.
Robin and Canon: The two of you approach the pool of energy at the base of the snarl, stopping right against the waist-high (or in Canon's case, knee-high) partition that contains it. From here, you can feel the magical energy radiating, causing your entire body to tingle slightly. There's even a slight tug, a minuscule magnetism that draws you toward the pool... almost like the snarl's energy is calling out to you.
Marius, Jedavii, and Hark: The amphitheater is not very far from the Hall of Oracles. You find that it is an impressively lavish stage with red curtains drawn back as if to reveal the players on the opening night of a theatrical production. Next to the stage, a young human man with combed back brown hair and piercing blue eyes in a costume doublet holds a script in his hands, reciting from it with intensity. He is near a table covered in scripts and props, along with what appears to be a sign-up sheet with a few names written on it. A sign near the table reads "Join the Playactors Drama Guild today!"
"Five colleges, all alike in dignity,
In fair Strixhaven where we lay our scene,
Here students bold will find their destiny,
And through hard work may newfound knowledge glean..."The young man orates, seemingly oblivious to the fact that you have arrived.
"From forth the halls of these five ancient schools,
A group of fated students now emerge,
These first-years, while still young, are hardly fools,
And shall the threads of chance here all converge," Marius picks up and delivers the lines. His clothes once again shift, into his own doublet, as he steps forward. "Gerion and Colette, Act 1 Prologue," he says, approaching the young man.
Jedavii runs his fingers through the velvety seat back covers on each seat in the auditorium, smiling as they tickle slightly. His attention soon turns to the performer, then to Marius as he picks up where the other student left off. He gives a small golf clap.
“You’re a natural at this, Marius! And you, good sire, sound great too! What’s your name?”
He waits for him to give his name, and for him to finish any conversation that he has with Marius.
”Cool! Nice to meet you, I’m Jedavii. I’m not too good with performing, but I’ll definitely try to make it to a few shows when I have the time!”
Robin sighs, not quite ready to simply step into the pool, she recalls that their counciler had said the energy was safe to touch, just not to drink it. Leaning forward Robin dips a hand into the light.
"Impressive," remarks Hark after hearing Marius's recitation of the lines.
Then, motioning toward the sign-up sheet, he adds, "For every actor upon the stage, there should be a few individuals sitting in the audience. I'm better suited for the latter."
As Robin dips her hand in the pool of energy, Canon's mind begins to race. Is it safe? Will Robin be harmed? He thinks back to Professor Sharpbeak's words, though, and recalls that the owlin mentioned it was safe to touch. Nonetheless, he remains on guard.
Robin's hand meets the shimmering pool, a shocking sensation runs up the nerves in her arms and spreads all throughout her being in less than a second. She mentally loses track of her body, overwhelmed by the snarl's power. It does not hurt, but it is rather disorienting. Her hand snaps back away from the pool... but there is something in it when she pulls away. In Robin's grasp is a small vial filled with red liquid - something she recognizes as a potion of healing.
That slight tugging sensation from the pool still pulls on Canon.
Meanwhile...
The young actor raises an eyebrow at Marius, seemingly somewhat impressed. He takes a bow to you all. "Quentilius Antiphiun Melentor III,"He says, rising from his bow. "It is good to meet a fellow student so clearly dedicated to the craft. And his companions. Have the muses brought us together, sir, that you might join the Playactors Drama Guild? Or are you all fellow first years coming to the theater to fulfill one of the scavenger hunt requirements?"
"Both, in fact," Marius says. "I've been planning to seek out the theatre group as soon as possible, and I instantly recognized the scavenger hunt clue, which is why they're with me." He pauses. "I don't think I actually introduced myself. I'm Marius Stargem, formerly of Thespian Troupe #0831."
"We must move in different circles. I've never heard of your troupe. Well, Marius, Jedavii, and... friend... if what you seek is the scavenger hunt item, I'll give you a clue; you'll have to take the stage and earn it!" Quentilius states with a grand flourish toward the amphitheater stage. "Seems a grand opportunity for you to show me you've what it takes to join our guild, Marius. An audition, as it were."
“Alrighty!” Jedavii eagerly climbs up onto the stage (who has time for stairs?) and grins, imagining an audience. Then he freezes. ”Hey… wait… um… Quentilius? What are we performing?”
Marius nods and walks over to the steps, his outfit shifting back to the tunic. As he walks up onto the stage, his entire manner shifts to a polished professionalism. He confidently strides across the stage, hands at his sides, and stops at center, turning to face the audience. "Hello. My name is Marius Stargem, and I'll be performing a song entitled 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables', from the musical play 'The Downtrodden'." He lowers his head and takes a step back, shifting into character. Looking around the stage as if he can see a room, he begins quietly singing. "There's a grief that can't be spoken, there's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables, now my friends are dead and gone." As he sings, he acts as if slowly walking around a cafe, taking in the emptiness of the room. "Here they talked of revolution, here it was they lit the flame. Here they sang about tomorrow, and tomorrow... never came." Marius walks downstage and his voice begins to raise as he sings "From the table in the corner, they could see a world reborn. And they rose with voices ringing, and I can hear them now! The very words that they had sung became their last communion, on this lonely barricade at dawn." His voice drops off on the last couple words, returning to a quiet volume. "Oh my friends, my friends, forgive me. That I live, and you are gone. There's a grief that can't be spoken, there's a pain goes on and on!" His volume raises as he holds the note on 'on', and he looks to stage left. "Phantom faces at the windows! Phantom shadows on the floor! Empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends will meet no more!" Marius turns to look straight into the audience, and it is obvious he is barely holding back tears. His voice rises to a crescendo as he sings "Oh my friends, my friends! Don't ask me, what your sacrifice wasfor! " His voice returns to the initial quiet, and he sits at downstage center. "Empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends will sing...no more..." He holds the last note, then stands up, wipes his eyes, and bows. "Thank you."
Jedavii, seeing Marius take the stage and go straight into a performance, quickly dismounts the stage and sits by Hark. Once he finishes, the gith rises from the chair, applauding excitedly. “That was amazing, Marius! You saw that, right, Quentilius? He’s in, right? He totally has what it takes!”
"Anything you want, Jedavii. Let the artistic spirits move you!"
All the surrounding students are enraptured by the performance. As Marius sings, five magical floodlights snap on around the stage's perimeter. Once he has finished, there is some scattered applause from around the Biblioplex.
"Well... that was rather impressive. Such clear action, such natural emotion. It has been a while since I've seen a performance like that. I believe the others would be happy to have you join our guild, Marius!" Quentilius croons. "This clue only requires one performer to fulfill its demands. You may all take your prizes, if you wish. I'll admit, I found them a little underwhelming, but they may come in handy someday, who knows."
The actor gestures to the lights, and you all find that each one is a hooded lantern filled with oil. There is enough for each member of your party to get one.
Marius, having noticed Jedavii getting onto and subsequently off the stage prior to the performance, turns to the githyanki. "Did you want to perform, or perform with me, Jedavii?"

He then chuckles audibly at his own joke.
"We'll meet you back at the snarl," Marius calls back. "Break a leg!"

[ooc: some kind of Wis check to see if he thinks touching it is a good idea? 11]

“Alrighty!” Jedavii eagerly climbs up onto the stage (who has time for stairs?) and grins, imagining an audience. Then he freezes. ”Hey… wait… um… Quentilius? What are we performing?”
