Robin uses a hand to brush some strands of her flaming red hair behind an ear as she steps forward. "I'd give it a try as well." She says, glancing to the contraption.
Arcana, with dex and using one of my d4s from the exam... 19 plus 1
Canon smiles to see his large friend Drazhomir in the crowd; he always feels a bit more comfortable when he's not towering over everyone in the room.
Seeing Jedavii's success with the game, Canon raises his hand a little shyly, and says, "I'll have a try." He steps up to one of the devices, draws back his arm, and just punches it with all his strength.
[Can I make a case for Str modifier? He's not exactly aiming… if so 23; otherwise 21]
(I'll allow it, the mental image is pretty amusing, and as of now you've rolled the highest regardless.)
(I'm going to assume that Marius is sitting this one out and post the results)
All three of you do a great job with the wizard gizzards! Jedavii manages to sink 5 spheres into the bucket, Robin lands 6 spheres, and Canon scores the highest with 7 spheres! An impressively close game for everyone, but Canon is the apparent winner! The crowd goes nuts as Javenesh grabs the goliath's meaty hand and raises it aloft. "We've got a winner!"The owlin crows!
"Canon! Canon! Canon!" The crowd cheers. Javenesh claps the gray bag into Canon's hands (a little too hard on accident). "There you go, big guy! A gray bag of tricks for winning. Good job!"
Canon is as surprised as anyone when his final shot slams into the bucket, having at first gone wide, but ricocheted off two walls and the ceiling before finding its target. His cheeks turn slightly deeper grey as the crows calls his name. "Oh, thank you. Thank you so much for, uh, this," he holds up the prize, "I'm sure it will be very useful. Um, and well played to my friends as well!"
"Well done." Robin agrees. She nods to the bag as well. "If you want me to see if I can figure anything out about that, then just let me know. I tend to be pretty good at detecting magic and that sort of thing..."
After the cheering dies down, Canon examines the bag. He first peers inside, then reaches in with a hand. "Huh. It looks empty, but I can feel something… furry." He pulls his hand out and holds the bag towards Robin. "I'd appreciate it if you could," he tells her.
"I'll study it and let you know what it does." Robin agrees as she takes the bag. "Might be a bit before I can get it back to you, but I'll see what I can learn." She would cast detect magic as a ritual, first off, to see if it is truly magical. as she does not have Identify, let alone a 100 GP pearl, she won't be able to use that, but can she examine it over a short rest to learn its properties?
I'll allow the identify to be cast as a ritual. Robin learns the following about the bag:
You can use an action to pull the fuzzy object from the bag and throw it up to 20 feet. When the object lands, it transforms into a creature you determine by rolling a d8 and consulting the table that corresponds to the bag's color. See the gray bag of trick's Monsters Listing for the creature's statistics. The creature vanishes at the next dawn or when it is reduced to 0 hit points.
The creature is friendly to you and your companions, and it acts on your turn. You can use a bonus action to command how the creature moves and what action it takes on its next turn, or to give it general orders, such as to attack your enemies. In the absence of such orders, the creature acts in a fashion appropriate to its nature.
Once three fuzzy objects have been pulled from the bag, the bag can't be used again until the next dawn.
Marius shakes his head and refocuses on reality, having become lost in his own mind. "Oh, good job, Canon," he says.
A Midwinter Daydream had been a success, with the leading trio of Marius, Rubina, and Quent receiving many accolades for their performances, though Marius was quick to redirect attention to the ensemble members and tech crew and ensure they're recognized too. The weeks since had been relatively relaxing, despite the post-show depression that he still hadn't figured out how to avoid. It was this that had caused the thespian to become lost in thought in the first place, reminiscing about the show.
Jedavii suggests: "Hm. I'm not sure... I was thinking one of the machines would go nuts and attack us, given our track record with these kinds of things. But since that's not happening... hm. Java, any chance I could borrow one of the machines for a while?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Javenesh shrugs. "Well, they were just gonna get thrown out anyway, so I don't see why not -"
Panicked shouting suddenly erupts from the tavern’s kitchen. Chef Curtie, her braided hair flapping wildly, emerges at a run, shouting and waving her arms.
“The steam! It’s too spicy!” she cries. “It’s trying to kill us! Someone, please help!”
The tavern is so busy that most of its patrons don’t immediately notice Curtie’s panic. Tulk Tusktooth does, but he’s momentarily overwhelmed by those students in the overflow seating who have noticed—and who are trying to get away from the kitchen as fast as they can. You have a clear path to the kitchen door—and Curtie needs help!
Crashes and clattering are heard from the kitchen, as well as shrieking. The nearby students begin to panic. Tulk and Javenesh are doing their best to keep things calm and orderly among the patrons; Drazhomir and Mina opt to help them out. Nora Ann, Greta, and Urzmaktok all follow the rest of you into the kitchen.
Walking into the kitchen, you see that some of the student cooks are on the floor, unmoving. A cauldron in the center of the room bubbles and pops as four winged creatures made of steam cackle and swirl around it. Additionally, ingredient bags have been knocked over, and swarms of beetles, centipedes, and roaches spill out of them. At your approach, the steam monsters take notice and attack!

Jedavii gives the machine another shot. "Here we GOOOOO!"

Robin brings the bag to Canon and informs him of what the bag's properties are.

(Everyone roll initiative!)
Steam monsters: 16
Jedavii yelps, rushing into the kitchen to save his fellow cook and his kitchen!
Init: 10
Robin initiative: 28 (Rolled a 25 in the game log, just need to figure out what gift of alacracy adds to it...)
"You just had to jinx us, didn't you?" Canon teases Jedavii with a wry grin as he follows him and Robin into the kitchen.
[Initiative: 15]
Init: 11
Marius starts for the fallen students as soon as he reaches the kitchen, trying to get them out of harm's way and healed.
Order:
- Robin
- Steam monsters
- Jedavii + Marius
- Canon
With that, it is Robin's turn! The four steam creatures are snarling and snapping and ready to strike.
"You guys deal with the monsters, we'll get the wounded out!" Greta says.
"And deal with those bugs; that cannot be sanitary!" Urzmaktok adds.
Robin falls back to the rear of the group and casts bless on the others of her group.
