Responding to Phodoxia's statement/question, "Bit odd, but depending on parents history or what he has been exposed to over the years, might have a little dragon in him which would explain the tail." Then he continues to walk as lightly as he can, making sure Phodoxi is keeping up and not having too difficult of a time, "then again, it might mean nothing and for some reason his elders did not put him down at birth because of the defect. Either way, I am glad he is with us."
Vrah looks around him annoyance as the group stops moving and looks up towards the ceiling when Spiderbait yells out and does not see the thing until it is right above him wrapping around his head. Screaming, "Get it off, get it off!" as the thing lands around his head blocking out all sight.

Kisiki listens to Shoowaa's story about the dog in quiet contemplation. "Yes," he responds finally, "Semuanya would act in such a way; the soul is a strange vessel - it is quick to adapt, and does so without consulting the mind - if you sensed a kindred spirit in the dog, then it is likely your soul found a way to manifest its connection. It is good that you reflect on your life and take meaning from it."
He then does his best to describe The Cycle. "The Cycle is... not just one cycle. It is all cycles. The cycle of life and death is most important for us mortals, yes, and so it controls our thoughts. But it is merely a fleeting consideration for Semuanya, and some of her longer-lived creations. All cycles come and go in importance and are part of one big Cycle that keeps creating; stagnation is its enemy. Your tail may be a sign that a new cycle has begun, or perhaps it is the result of a cycle ending. If you ponder it, the answer may come to you."
Tanis' thoughts roil, conflicted with surprise and concern, and something else as well. He is of course worried about the precarious fight on the webs against the strange, dark creatures that have attacked and enfolded Vrah and Derendil, with the darkness descending from above. Almost a metaphor for the party's struggles in the Underdark, with the ever-foreboding sense that something deeper is wrong here.
And yet... something about the darkness draws him... A voice speaks deep inside his soul:
Perhaps you were meant to embrace the shadows, Tanis. The Gloom. Not run from it. In the end, you'll never escape the darkness if you don't face it.
Fighting back the strange inner voice for the moment, Tanis forces himself to retreat a few careful steps on the web strand he is on, standing just outside where the darkness will descend, 25' from Vrah. With his free action he pulls out the drow hand crossbow, already loaded with a poisoned bolt. He takes his bonus action to cast and concentrate on Hunter's Mark on the strange creature enveloping the bugbear (extra 1d6 damage on every hit and advantage on Perception and Survival checks on it). Murmuring a prayer to Tymora for luck, Tanis lets the bolt fly, attempting to hit only the enemy and not his ally (disadvantage).
Damage noted from Tanis's attack on the darkmantle on Vrah.
Let's wait for Vethna's initiative before anyone else goes, but the order is as follows:
Tanis, Petmailer, the Darkmantles (darkness will fall on some of you at this point), Spiderbait and Yuk-Yuk, Sarith, Vrah, Phodoxia, Jimjar, Shoowaa, Derendil, Kisiki, Eldeth
As a reaction to the darkmantles coming down ( or start of thier turn if that is not feasable) to 10’ of Shoowaa, Shoowaa unleases some spores agaisnt the one attacking Vrah.
Full order: Petmailer, the Darkmantles (darkness will fall on some of you at this point), Spiderbait and Yuk-Yuk, Sarith, Vrah, Phodoxia, Jimjar, Shoowaa, Derendil, Kisiki, Eldeth, then back to the top with Tanis and Vethna.

Petmailer hurriedly moves to where Vrah is and tries to rip the thing off his head so that Vrah can see and breathe. If he is successful he will try to fling it down into the chasm.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
That's a fail. And actually a fail by more than 5, so it is unconscious. Sorry I missed this initially. I saw the attack and damage and hunter's mark but forgot to check on the poison.
Vethna's attack missed, so there's no change there. Since the one on Vrah was falling unconscious from the Drow poison, if you want to retcon and say you were going to help Derendil with the other one, we can change that. Otherwise, Petmailer pulled it off and flung it away. If it hits something and takes damage, that will wake it up and it might come flying back.

One of the darkmantles is hit by Tanis's bolt and immediately releases it's hold on Vrah. It falls down through strands of webbing and disappears somewhere below. Petmailer seizes the other one and pulls it from Derendil and flings it away. You see it start to flutter and head back when a 15 foot radius sphere of darkness drops over the party.
Con save for Shoowaa's spores on the one Petmailer grabbed.
That one takes 4 hp of necrotic damage from the spores. It recovers from being thrown away by Petmailer and starts to fly back toward the group as the sphere of darkness engulfs most of the party. When it descends, Stool sets off a spray of spores in panic and you find yourselves all connected by his ability. So you may not see what's happening, but you'll be able to hear through telepathy from your party members if they are attacked.
[ooc: There are 15 of you total in the group - the 7 of you, the 2 webrunners and 6 of your fellow prisoners that you escaped with. Spiderbait and Yuk-Yuk were in the front. Jimjar also headed up there. Tanis stated specifically that he was scouting in the back with Eldeth when he took a shot at one with his crossbow. These five are outside of the darkness (on opposite sides of it). Unless anyone can point out that they are in a different location, I'm putting the remaining ten people inside the sphere and will roll randomly to determine who gets attacked.]
As one of them swoops toward Kisiki, he hears it approach at the last instant and brings his shield up near his head to fend it off.
Petmailer is not as lucky and finds himself with one of these things wrapped around his head.
You can hear Spiderbait shouting from outside the sphere "Spread out! Get out of there if you can!" He and Yuk Yuk have their scimitars out and hold an action to attack any darkmantles that emerge from the darkness. Sarith tries to make his way out of the sphere.
His dex check: 11
With that failure, you hear him slip from strands of web and drop below. 1
He falls down about ten feet and catches himself without taking any damage.
Those of you outside the darkness hear sounds of someone stumbling, then you see Sarith tumble out of the sphere and land on some strands below the rest of the party. He catches himself, but he's prone in the webs.
Up next are: Vrah, then Phodoxia, Jimjar, Shoowaa, Derendil, Kisiki, and Eldeth

Vethna's initiative is modified 20. Rolled in game log.
Vethna moves to the nearest enemy and stabs at it with her rapier. (As I doubt if a 9 hits, she misses.)
That is a miss. Petmailer is up next.
