A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"That was you?!? Please don't EVER do that again. Why in the nine hells did you think it was a good idea to rescue someone who had been attacked and captured by spiders IN THE FORM OF A SPIDER?? I nearly had a heart attack."
Phodoxia's relief at getting safely through the webs is dampened by her obvious sadness at parting from their two new goblin friends. It's been so long since I've been around such a rascal ruckus, my tribe of normal, conniving goblins. Of which I was the normalest, most conniving! Now the show is just Shoowaa and I---freaks of faerie forests! At least I don't have a tail... but I might as well, for what an outcast I am.
"Are you sure you won't come with us?" Phodoxia begs the two Web Runners, but it's mostly for show. She's pretty sure they won't. They're making a good killing where they're at. So she throws her arms around Yuk-yuk and gives him a big kiss on the cheek. "Goodbye," she says tearfully. "Thank you for keeping us alive. I'll never forget you."
Vrah looks to Fargas, "Welcome to the group, you might be safer with those two," pointing to the retreating two goblins, "but you are welcome. Do you still need help or you stand on two feet now?"

"Welcome to our ragtag group, Fargas." Tanis shakes Fargas Rumblefoot's hand. "Just know that you are still in danger while with us - we all are. We are all going to have to count on each other if we hope to survive down here in the darkness."
He tends to trust Fargas. No way the halfling had intentionally cocooned himself in midst of the webbed chasm. Still he tries to guess at Fargas' intentions:
Kisiki bids farewell to the Goblins. "You have served the Cycle. Be safe and may Semuanya guide your steps."
When he has a chance, he turns to the Halfling and greets him. "Why were you alone on that dangerous path? Have you any hidden talents we should know?" He pivots immediately to filling him in on his new situation. "You should know we are heading to the Darklake, and eventually to the surface. We will make it, because Semuanya guides our hands and our steps. She guided them to you, so you must serve the Cycle in some way."
Fargas says "Semuanya, eh? Well, whoever you serve, they're watching over you better than Garl Glittergold watched over us." He looks toward Jimjar "No offense."
Jimjar smiles and says "Trust me. None is taken. There may be a case of mistaken identity here."
Fargas looks at him quizzically for a second before continuing. "Well, anyway. I was part of band of adventurers, mostly gnomes you see, and we were down here looking for...I guess it doesn't hurt to tell you. I think the rest of our group is dead. We were looking for a lost tomb. But not just any old lost tomb. It was supposed to be from an ancient wizard civilization. Supposedly it fell off of a flying city centuries ago and plummeted to earth, crashing through to the underdark. One of our party members had a map that was supposed to lead to the tomb. Along the way, we were attacked by a bunch of gnolls. They surprised our party and our forward scouts. I was in the rear. I told them I should have been in the front. That's where my skill set would have come in handy the most, but nobody listened. 'Cover our rear, keep an eye out, make sure we're not followed' they says. We weren't followed, but it didn't matter. By the time I caught up to the rest of the party, half of them were already down and the others were in bad shape. I fled. The gnolls chased me for what felt like miles till I came out of a passage and saw these webs. They didn't want to follow me into them. Now I understand why. I was trying to cross and find another exit when the spiders caught me. Would have been the end of old Fargas if it weren't for you lot."
If Tanis offers him a crossbow, he'll pat his pack and say "That's okay. I've got one in here."
When asked about where he last saw the gnolls, he'll tell you that once he got into the webs and they stopped following him, he traveled 3 or 4 hours in the webs before being caught by the spiders. So the passage where he last saw the gnolls is a pretty good distance away from where you are now and likely does not connect directly to the passage you all are entering. They may still be in this general region, but so are a lot of other nasties.
"Anything specific you were after in that old tume?" Vethna asks as she listens to the halfling's tale. "I don't figure a detour is in order, but, if there is something there that could help us get to the surface, then it might be we should consider checking it out."
Petmailer said "We would welcome your help up front, scouting and so forth, but don't you have difficulty seeing in the dark? Have you grown accustomed to the low level of light down here?" He pauses. "Regardless, welcome aboard, stay with us and I'm sure that we can help each other."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
With the question about the tomb, you see Fargas get much more animated and energized. "Well, you see, there was this sorcerer in ancient times who was supposed to have great power. Her name was Brysis of Khaem!" (he speaks the name dramatically) "No one knows what treasures might have been entombed with her when she was finally laid to rest, but she possessed all sorts of powerful magical devices. Her floating tomb was made of magically protected materials, so when it hit the ground, it bored straight down into the earth and rock. It supposedly crashed into the ground from a great height, creating a long shaft down here into the underdark. Over time, the earth moved and the upper parts of the shaft collapsed, closing it off from the surface centuries ago. There was some earthquake or something. But the leader of our expedition had a rough map showing tunnels that intersected what was left of the shaft. We were trying to find it when the gnolls surprised us. The plan was to descend to the base, then look around for any signs of an ancient structure."
Sarith was listening to this and chimes in. "I know of a place like what you describe. It is a long steeply sloping shaft. It is not far from the path we will be taking. My people called it the Shaft of Four Falls, because of the multiple waterfalls that flow down through the shaft. The Drow can be somewhat literal. I have never heard that there is supposed to be a tomb at the bottom. People have wondered why the shaft formed at a slant instead of being vertical. Some speculated that it was created by ancient giant worms that bored their way down from the surface."
"Hmmm. If the tomb fell into the Underdark, perhaps there is a hole above it still where we can escape..." Kisiki ponders the possibility, "but perhaps the stone sealed itself behind the rift." He takes a long look at his rat skull, as if probing it for knowledge from his goddess and says, "This would be very like Great Scale to drop a city far in the past, only so it could be found it the future. Just another cycle... lost when convenient, then found when needed. Where is the tomb?"
To Petmailer, Fargas says "Aha... that's why I've got these babies" and he pulls out a strange pair of goggles and fits them over his eyes. He waves his hand in front of his face for a second, then says "Ahh... there we go. Takes a minute for the effect to kick in."
To Kiski he asks "Who is Great Scale? Some big dragon or something?
And then to the group in general "Anybody got any more of those berries? My stomach is feeling much better. It's mostly just hungry now."
Tanis, having offered the hand crossbow and slightly unnerved (though not surprised) on hearing about the gnolls and other nasties, hands Fargas a goodberry out of the ten he had conjured the previous night.
"Just remember Fargas - the only way we get out is to stick together. No fleeing unless we all flee."
Fargas was starting to get really excited and energized when he saw the party had some interest in the quest he was originally on. When he hears you say "No fleeing unless we all flee" you see the air go out of him as if he was a deflating balloon.
"Hey man... I .... I mean...if there was anything I could have done...Look... I... I... feel awful, but these guys were NOT being cautious. They were SINGING! Like ALL the time. I kept telling them we needed to keep it stealthy, but they wouldn't listen. Every day it was 'Hi ho, hi ho!...' I mean, if you're going to be that noisy, at least break up the monotony a little. Give us a ballad or two. I was wishing they would knock it off one day when suddenly they did. But then there was screaming and snarling and sounds of a fight. As long as you guys don't do anything stupid to get us killed, I can promise you I won't either."
Tanis nods. He's met this kind of man before in his company under Markham Southwell back at Bryn Shander.
"No judgement on your past actions, Fargas. Just explaining how it's going to be now so there's no mistake. No fleeing unless we allflee." Tanis reiterates looking Fargas in the eye. "And yes, we're trying to be stealthy, unlike your mates before. You don't want to hear my singing voice anyway."
He claps Fargas on the shoulder and steps back into the darkness to continue rear-scouting, becoming invisible.
"Well, if you guys have any interest in a little side trip and your Drow friend there might know where this shaft is, I'd happily split whatever treasure we find with all of you."
