Phodoxia holds her breath, hanging onto Vrah, but she can't keep it up. She sees Kisiki swimming easily back and forth with his light. Her lungs are burning and she's starting not to be able to hang on. A moment of panic overcomes her and she tries to gasp, shout for help, water rushing into her lungs. She can't see anything for a long time and the pain is terrible, but she feels a strong grip dragging her through the water, and eventually the pressure changes, water streaming off of her, the weight of gravity dropping her flat onto the rocky shore of the underground river. She spasms, rolls over onto her stomach, coughs, chokes, gasping and heaving for breath, spitting up water. Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow!
And then lays there limply for a while to wait for the pain to subside, taking deep ragged breaths. Next Kisiki will be saying that water goes in lungs, not air. Maybe that's true for lizards... but much like tails, not for goblins!
Tanis brings up the rear, as has been his role since the escape. Watching for stragglers to help (Fargas?). And for whether Glabbagool and whatever black thing was behind them are coming up with us. He swims to shore with the others when he can, helping anyone he is with along the way.
Perception to see whether Glabbagool and the black thing are coming up too (or any other hazards): 13 (rolled in character sheet on campaign).
Petmailer rolls over on the edge, on his back, gasping for air and resting. Then he has the same thought as Tanis, he rolls over to the water’s edge and reaches out with his mind.
“Glabbagool, are you still there? Did you make it out?”
He looks around in the dark at his surroundings.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Vethna is up almost as soon as they reach the shore. She moves along the shoreline, seeking paths and tunnels they might take from here. She wants to know the potential for danger, and any possible escape routes, while the others are still catching their breath.
Shoowaa shivers as he gets out of the water, not liking his clothes and tail getting wet. He sees Phodoxia coughing up water and he will go to Phodoxia and sees if she needs assistance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I'm okay, I'm all right," Phodoxia croaks like a squashed frog, spitting up water. "I know, I know, the ol' DB&C, I've got it---" She sucks in a deep lungful of air and coughs out another spray of water. Hanging onto Shoowaa she drags herself to her feet, beaming. "Much better. Thank you!"
Then she turns her attention to the darkness around them, as her vision slowly unclouds with the return of air to her lungs. Hey, great, I can still see in the dark!
Tanis also tries to get a sense of where they are relative to where the original cave-in occurred. Northeast a couple hundred feet and up several dozen feet? He doubts they will ever see Sarith again. Their erstwhile drow companion is likely either dead or happy to be rid of the party. But Tanis would very much like to connect back with Eldeth and Jimjar, having grown fond of the gambling deep gnome and even more so of the brave dwarf scout.
Survival: 9 (rolled in character sheet, visible in log).
Unfortunately, Tanis is too turned around from the flooding caverns below and the chaotic swim upward to know which way is which.
After coming up out of the crack, you all floated downstream a short distance in the current before you could reach some flat platforms to climb out. The water isn't so fast as to be treacherous and the river is not terribly deep. This cavern is primarily a channel for this subterranean river, with occasional shelfs on each side. Going downstream, you can generally get from one shelf to another with a short wade through shallow water. A short distance upstream from where you emerged, you can see that the cavern closes in closer to the river. There certainly isn't room to walk beside it and in places, you might have to be submerged to make progress upstream. Between the twisting and turning in the temple below and getting spun around and pushed downstream by the water when you swam up through the crack, you really can't tell which direction leads back toward the passage you were in prior to the cave in.
If you remember, Jimjar and Eldeth intended to head for the large rift to try and meet back up there.
Petmailer, watching the surface of the water, you aren't entirely sure, but you think you saw a mostly translucent tendril rise above the water and wave before retracting back beneath the surface.
"Anyone want to pick a direction?" Vethna asks as she returns from scouting the possible paths from this place. "It seems we either go up river or down river. No other real options available right now..."
Vrah thinks a moment, "Is rift near lake? Then does anyone know if river flows from the lake or to the lake? Might be best option. I can help others wade through river."
Petmailer agrees with Vrah, “Let’s head downstream until we can see our path easier. If we run into a dead end then we may have to swim underwater for a bit. I don’t want to do that unless I have to.”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Shuushar dips a fin into the water and tastes it. He taps stool to get him to set off spores to help with communications. "I taste limestone, sediment, a little quartz...no fish. This water flows to the lake, not from the lake. I think I know this river. We aren't far. Couple of miles maybe. There is another, smaller stream that flows out of the rift and joins this one. I can't say for sure if it is upstream or downstream from where we are now." He points downstream. "This will lead to the darklake. If we're lucky, we will connect with the other tributary and can backtrack up that stream to the rift and hopefully find the others."
"Where is Glaabgool? Should't the cube be with us?"
"I didn't see them. But I think maybe Petmailer saw them waving at us before going back into the water. I'm glad everyone is all right. That was close."
Tanis continues rear scounting as the party proceeds. He is invisible in darkness, so he periodically moves up to speak softly with the people just ahead of him so they know he is there. Not about the drow pursuit down this stream, but looking out for predators or the black thing he had seen below.
The party continues following the river downstream. The experience in the flood temple ruined some of your supplies. For instance, you had some torchstalks which are now useless and the supplies of spice and ground fungus that Shuushar has been collecting are ruined. Some of your food supplies were likewise spoiled, but you still have enough for a couple of day's of travel and the Koa-toa believes you are nearing his settlement.
The good news is, between the cave-in, the flooded passages and now traveling in and out of water, you are much more difficult to track. If any of the drow were still following you from Velkynvelve, they will have lost your scent. That doesn't mean you can't encounter a random patrol or scouting party, but you're confident no one is following you.
After about a day's worth of travel, you enter a cavern that has another tributary joining the river you've been following. Shuushar says "Ah, yes, that is the stream I was thinking of. I forgot about this particular complication." The stream his is indicating as the one coming from the large rift you were looking for enters this cavern through a waterfall about 40 feet up the side of the cavern. The walls of the cavern are slick with moisture and moss growing on the rocks. There are rocks and outcroppings and things you can use to climb the wall, but it will be a little dangerous and there is a risk of a fall. If you don't want to follow that tributary, the river continues forward and Shuushar indicates that he thinks you are now about a day's march from the settlement of Sloobludop on the shore of the darklake.
"We said we would meet back up at the rift." Vethna reminds the group. "How about I climb up and get a rope tied off, then the rest of you can climb up the rope instead of the slippery wall. Thoughts?"
(Vethna has a natural climb speed, so that should aid her in climbing the wall I would think.)
