Phodoxia stares back at the drow priestess with her two puffy, black eyes, and, though she doesn't understand the language, the derision is clear enough. She frowns sadly at the scarred drow, and picks up the hood when Ilvara throws it at her and the contingent of their terrible captors storm out. Once they're gone, she yanks the hood back on her head and scurries over with the others to inspect what happened to Topsy. "You aren't hurt are you?" she fusses, tugging on one of the gnome's ears gently.
She is completely distracted from the problems of the underfolk, though, when the spore cloud catches her and her head fills without the voices of.... everyone's.... thoughts. She has to sit down for a minute, and her own thoughts pour into the muddle. <What happened? Those people were beastly. I wish I'd bit them harder when they brought me in. It's a pity it's so dark down here, I would like to sneak an army of light in to destroy them all. The world would be a better place. I think I can keep the hood, since they've been throwing it at me.> Soon she's exerting herself to keep her own thoughts down, though, eager to listen in on the animated talk of escape logistics. She listens carefully, and runs over to look at Eldeth's map when the dwarf scrawls it in the dust.
Her head swimming, she thinks hazily at the group, <This outpost is not very big, is it? We must be very far from the drow cities.>
Kisiki hacks up a lungful of spores. His first thoughts to the group is, "yuck." But after hearing that everyone's thoughts are transferred into a sort of hivemind he changes his tune, thinking, "Praise Semuanya for creating such a creature!" referring to Sprout. He joins in on the planning. "The caves do not want us here. We do not belong. Nature provides an exit. The waterfall, how deep has it carved the rock below? The spiders, too, may provide us with escape if we treat them well. Let them feed, and they will let us use their web to descend."
Tanis pays close attention to Eldeth's map. He muses to the group via thought.
"Do you think there is an area on the walkway north of here, near the cave with the quaggoths, that if we were able to get a couple lengths of rope, we could connect the ropes, attach one to the walkway, and climb down to the water at the bottom of the cavern while avoiding the spiderwebs? Combat with spiders while in their web seems like something we should avoid and I am worried that even if they are not hungry, spiders trap their prey for later."
"I do agree with you," (meaning Vethna) "that we need to find a way to escape our cave as well and I can think of no way to do that right now. It is a puzzle with many pieces and sadly, we have to solve each one. The manacle issue was the only one I could think of any potential solution for." Tanis ruefully muses that he had never been much good at puzzles. "As you say, we cannot directly assault the drow. The weapons and perhaps armor, if we can get at them, would be for the few that we may need to pick off as we flee, such as the 2 in the northern alcove near the quaggoths perhaps. And then of course, to survive other foes in the Underdark thereafter. The armory above the trap door in the nearest tower sounds like the place if we could ever get there. Especially if it has our original gear. Of course, we'd also benefit from food, water, the ropes I mentioned maybe... If we were able to steal those, I wonder if we could block drow reinforcements by cutting the bridge or setting it on fire or..." Tanis trails off thinking.... Will we need a light?
"Lizardfolk friend - among all of us, it seemed as if you are the only one without darkvision. Will you require torches if and when we are free and on the run in the Underdark? Does anyone have magical means of light once magic is available to us again?"
<I can speak with animals, lets talk to spiders first then fire if that don't work. Oh if we are talking fighty wise, if I get a staff, or a big stick I can wack em real hard! Or make them sparkly! I like making people sparkly. And I can make some berries that would fill you up and make you feel good. Though that also depends on what I want to cast that day. Maybe I should have lead with that I'mma druid in training!>
"Lizardfolk friend - among all of us, it seemed as if you are the only one without darkvision. Will you require torches if and when we are free and on the run in the Underdark? Does anyone have magical means of light once magic is available to us again?"
"Semuanya grants me a mote of his sun when I have need."He answers in response.
'Very well, it seems our current plan, if we can get free of manicles and cell, is to get to the armory, grab what we can of gear and rope, then tie off the rope and climb down to the water below. I would suggest a group of our sneakiest attempt to get to the armory undetected, if that is an option, and get what gear they can. The less stealthy wait for that, then everyone make for the place we have picked as our descent point.' Vethna pauses there and gives a mental sigh. 'Again though, this all depends on these manicles coming off, as no one can climb with them on, and that cell door being unlocked. A distraction would also be a great bonus, but I cannot think of one right now, unless we simply start the webs on fire, drawing the drow that way while we climb down. It is moot though, unless we find a way out of these manicles and out that cell door.'
Petmailer thinks to the others in the immediate area, involved in the planning. “Let’s pool resources. Does anyone have anything of use? I have a short bit of rope that could help. So we try to sneak away during work detail to get to the armory?” Petmailer looks at each of you, with strain and stress in his eyes. “Once I’m transferred, I know that my head won’t be on my shoulders for long. There are those in our society who want to take us to a darker, evil place, I spoke and acted against them, and for that I will lose my head. I would like to keep it right where it is on my shoulders, I need to get out of this place..”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
When Phodoxia suggests that the outpost must be remote and far from Drow cities, Shuushar answers that the nearest settlement he knows of is his town of Sloobludop on the shores of the darklake. It is about 8 days journey from here. The drow cities are much farther.
Jimjar agrees with him. He's from Blingdenstone. It is a little farther than the Drow city of Menzoberranzan but in the same general direction. He estimates it would take a month of travel to get back to Blingdenstone, but once there, you can easily access the surface. The trip to Menzoberranzan is not quite as far, but this outpost is well over 20 days travel away. The Drow only get resupplied every couple of weeks. Usually when a patrol drops off supplies, they take any captured slaves back.
Eldeth has scouted some parts of the underdark, but this area is unfamiliar to her. She wouldn't know which way to head. She thinks the pool beneath the waterfall is deep. The drow use it to dispose of trash and to empty chamber pots. It's a long drop (about 100 feet). If you can survive hitting the water, it will break your fall. She warns Kisiki against trusting the giant spiders. They are trained by the Drow. They won't pursue you far out of the webs, but she's seen them quickly surround and subdue prisoners who tried to jump into the webs. Fire might keep them at bay, but it's risky and could destabilize whatever part of the web you were in and lead to a fall. If you don't land in the pool, you'd be a goner. The Drow use the webs as camouflage to hide the outposts from anyone traveling through the cavern below. They are thick and stretch under the entire outpost. The only ways to get around them would be near the waterfall or up near the northern alcove by the quaggoth den. The lift has a clear passage through the webs, but there are always two quaggoth stationed at the top of the lift to raise it up and down.
When there is a pause in the conversation, Shuushar observes "You know, that is the first I have seen of Jorlan since he returned with his injuries from a patrol. He was badly burned by something. Ilvara attempted to heal him. They used to be close. I was surprised to see how mean she was to him considering she was the one who couldn't fully restore his injuries."
Jimjar says "I've got five gold I'll wager that she's started sleeping with Shoor now. Any takers?"
While you all have been conversing, Buppido has been doing something around a pile of rocks off to one side of the cavern. You hear him shout "Aha! Found it" and start laughing to himself.
Sarith has drifted off to sleep, but it is fitful and restless. Once she got free, Turvey has been watching over Topsy. The two of them have fallen asleep, leaned up against each other. Sprout is sitting in the center of his new friends, enjoying communing with them though he doesn't understand a lot of what they are talking about. Prince Derendil (the Quaggoth) has been listening to your conversation.
Vethna pats Sprout affectionatly as she talks things over with the others mentally. As other start to fall off to sleep she would say. 'Best all of us get some sleep, or else we'll pay for being tired tomorrow.' She cuddles up with the mushroom creature, holding Sprout close as she goes to sleep as well.
I do not trust that derro, but Vethna is right, we need our rest. Seeing her hold Sprout makes Tanis wonder how his wild-eyed plan to steal and climb down ropes would work with the mushroom creature. Maybe one of us could hold them during the climb down?
Assuming Tanis is still in a group in proximity with Eldeth and Petmailer, Tanis would suggest quietly in Common to the dwarf and the drow:
"One of us should keep watch. That derro has already spoken of stabbing someone in their sleep and who knows if the quaggoth who thinks he's an elf will have another bout of rage. I can take first watch for 2 hours. Petmailer, are you similar to my wood elf father in the sense that you only need 4 hours of trance to rest and could keep watch for the other 4 hours? If so, Eldeth could take the other 2 hours to give us 8 total which should be enough. Otherwise, we may need to include someone else like the bugbear in the watch rotation."
To Jimjar, Tanis would give a wry, tired smile at the offer of a bet. He tells him in Gnomish, "I do not care to wager on what Ilvara and Shoor do, and I am not much of a betting man. But I tell you this, deep gnome, if ALL of us now in Sprout's mind circle here escape and remain free and alive to reach a reasonable destination of our choosing, perhaps this darklake? If that happens, I will give you 1 whole gold piece. I am a bit strapped right now but I am good for it. And if not ALL of us make it, you can give me 1 copper which I will hurl as far from me as I can in anger and frustration."
Phodoxia listens and nods, liking the sound of the current plan. <If the lift is there, at the bottom of the stairs, perhaps we can go that way. I can be very quiet, I can try to sneak into the armory.> But she looks a little concerned as she thinks, <How would we know which gear is ours? Do you suppose they have put it all in the same place?>
Buppido, fussing with the pile of rocks, keeps catching the goblin's attention, even as some of the others begin to settle down to sleep. Tired as she is, Phodoxia can't resist her curiosity, and she goes over to the derro. <Found what?> she thinks insistently at him, bending down to look.
Jimjar says to Tanis "I'll take that bet. Of course, I usually never turn down bet. Ha!"
Phodoxia, as you approach the Derro, he says audibly "Back off goblin! This is mine now." He's brandishing a short piece of iron bar. You don't pick up any thoughts from him. (There's no mystery here. He had moved toward the back of the cave when Sprout's spores were released and was not affected.) As you move away from the group, their thoughts start to fade from your mind. (Must be within 30 feet for the mind meld to work. It will still be active for an hour when you move back into their vicinity.)
<Ah that sucks. I was hoping to have spider friends to help. Oh oh oh! I can learn a spell for tomorrow that might help! What sort of 'jobs' do they make us do? Is magic able to work there? How many guards watch when we 'work'? Maybe we can get out that way, but others would be stuck here still.> Shoowaa looks at his manacles and tries to loosen them so that he can slip out of them easier. <Are any of you good with locks? Maybe we can make the guards wear these.>
Shoowaa looks up and goes to the derro <Found a friend? A shiny? Maybe we can use the rocks for something like if there is a sharp rock we can carve something with. Or maybe since this is dirt we can dig?> Shoowaa looks at the prince, <Can you dig with your claws?>
Switching out goodberry and purify food and drink with Animal friendship and charm person for the day.
EDIT I saw that the derro can't hear so Shoowaa will ask out loud before being shooed off and goes to the quaggoth prince
Phodoxia frowns, unable to hear the thoughts of the others, or the derro. But, there's not much she can do about his unwillingness to share his prize. Phodoxia walks back towards the others until she can hear their thoughts again, regretfully resisting the urge to try and take the iron bar.
Derendil would respond that he can dig fairly well, but it won't do any good. He brushes aside an inch or so of dirt and there is hard stone underneath.
Kisiki asks around for Derendil, approaches him, and speaks to him in Elvish: "Cruel misfortune separates a prince from his people. Cruel misfortune separates a shaman from his. I know something of your people and your gods from your forest-dwelling cousins. My god watches out for me. We should work together; we will free ourselves, and our people will rejoice."
He also approaches Jimjar and attempts to speak to him in common. If that doesn't work, he'll use the mind meld. "You have metal coins. Have you kept them with you? Or have you stolen them from the Elves? I do not know your gods, but they have blessed you with talent. What else can you do? If you help me return to my people, I will ask Semuanya to watch out for you."
Derendil responds "If we can escape this accursed place, I will make you an honorary elf!" He slaps you on the shoulder and you feel the power in his arms.
Jimjar understands you and responds in common. "As my people like to say, I have a few tricks up my sleeve." He winks at you. "And I never turn down the blessing of a god. As I like to say, it's better to be lucky than good."
Petmailer nods with the watch discussion, “I only require four hours of meditation, I would be glad to keep watch. Have any of you seen on the ground a short segment of copper wire? I can use it with a spell to communicate silently. I also have the ability to blow enemies off of a ledge (or a web) with a thunderous wave of power. It may come in handy.”
