Before returning to the inn Lefaris turns to Guide. "Where can I get oil and supplies for maintaining my crossbow?" She asks Guide. "I just need the basic items to oil the wood, replacement strings, and other essential items." She explains. (Just trying to have some gear to try working at maintaining her gear some on her own. Realize she does not have the tool prof to craft items but I assume prof with a weapon includes knowledge of how to maintain them. Would doing so remove worn or used states of items?)
Happy to be back at the Inn, Sindri starts feeling a sense of comfort about the place. She joins Chonk by the fireplace and just enjoys the warmth and the companionship. Looking like he is pretty intent on what he is doing, she says nothing not wanting to distract him. She invites Pwok to sit in her lap and settles in, enjoying the food as well.
Chonk you are pleased to see the final form of your bow beginning to emerge. Another session like this and you will have crafted a weapon to be proud of.
Lefaris the Guide is stumped by your request for a moment or two and then suggests you speak to the travelling merchant. You find the merchant at the tavern and they are delighted to help.
"The crossbow is the weapon of choice for the invading Pillagers."the merchant explains, "So accompanying items are becoming easier to come by. Very lucky for you that you recovered my Llama wouldn't you say!"
They head out for a few minutes and return with a small bundle of supplies suitable for the maintenance of a crossbow. (You can add "Crossbow Supplies" to your inventory at a cost of 3 emeralds and it will indeed allow you to maintain that specific item type with a proficiency roll).
Sindri you enjoy the evening and the fire and Pwok nestles down on you lap and softly begins to snore.
Anything else people want to get done before sleep?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sindri looks around to see if any of the towns people appear to want to chat with them but are too nervous to approach, or anything else out of what they are now considering their new normal.
Perception 7
But otherwise, she's good and ready to head to bed when others are, ready for their mission in the morning.
Gurozwelcomes the warmth of fire and food, so much so is expressive of his manners. He enquires the villagers about guards of the town, or at very least a watch, to help keep the settlement safe from monsters. If one does not exist, he simply asks who he would have to talk to get one established. Otherwise he sits near the others, enjoying company of his comrades nearby before turning in for the night.
Lefaris pays for the supplies, and takes the kit up to her room. She spends the hours before bed working over the two hand crossbows she has, attempting to clean and maintain them. Rolled a nat 20, plus 5, so a 25 in the game log.
Sindri there are few patrons in this evening and you spot little opportunity to strike up conversation. You listen to Guroz as he asks about the town defences. It would appear that the Golem you have been tasked with recovering used to be the villages primary method of defence. When the mine collapsed and the Golem was lost nothing was done to replace it and the idea of a town watch or guard was not even considered. You get the impression that these Villagers are not most proactive of creatures. The Guide does suggest that a conversation with the Cleric might yield better result on the subject.
After a quiet evening by the fire you all head off to bed.
Lefaris you go to work on the crossbows and have them working as good as new by morning.
You all wake the following morning to find that three neat bundles await you in the common room downstairs. It is the leather armour. It has been delivered by the Tanner all neatly repaired and refreshed. Breakfast is also waiting and the Innkeeper greets you with a smile.
"I trust you all slept well. Food and lodgings for the evening will be one emerald each." You are paying customers at last!
Lefaris smiles at the sight of her armor, and quickly dons it over her tunic. She nods to the innkeep, handing over one emerald in payment. Once done with all of that she turns to the others. "Ready to head to these mines then?" She asks.
Chonk pays the inn keeper an emerald and reminds Lefaris that he would like to retrieve his long sword from the Smithy before leaving town. Also that maybe getting some more info from the Cleric about the golem could be beneficial.
"I should see if I can replace some of those rations I gave to that bandit yesterday." Lefaris says with a nod. "I'll do that while you retrieve your blade and then we can go speak with the cleric together."
Sindri hands over an emerald to the innkeeper, then turns to Pwok, "you going to lay me another egg anytime soon? Would definitely help for this place!"
She sees if there is any way she can help Lefaris recover her rations while they wait for the boys. She is looking forward to and apprehensive of their upcoming trek. Unsure of what they are about to find.
Chonk you head out to collect your sword from the smithy and the Guide passes you on the way out. They give you you a friendly nod. (Guroz I will take it that you go with?)
Lefaris and Sindri you manage to pick up some rations at the tavern. They have a good supply of bread and it appears they have picked up a batch of tasty pork chops since you were last in. They can spare enough rations for 10 meals at the cost of 5 emeralds.
Sindri. at your request for an egg Pwok looks a little embarrassed and goes rigid for a moment as if straining... nothing happens. She gives an apologetic pwok! and looks around the room as if to avoid your gaze.
Weapons collected and food replenished you all find yourself standing outside the open doors of the chapel an hour or so later...
Lefaris jingles her coin pouch as she waits outside the chapel for the others to arrive. It does not make much noise, having only 2 emeralds left to her name. She sighs as the others arrive. "Best be getting some work that pays good coin." She says to them as an aside, prior to them entering. Once everyone has arrived she will head in to speak with the cleric, along with the others.
Sindri hands over 3 emeralds to Lefaris to help pay for the rations. "Yeah, I'm hoping this mission of ours pays well, otherwise maybe we can persuade the guide to get us free room and board again." She follows Lefaris into the chapel.
Guroz, now equipped, holds a sad leather rag in his hand, which is actually his coinpurse. "Pay would help us get by. Let's hope there's nothing foul in the mine as that sheep-thing was?"
Chonk is obviously pleased with the repairs to his sheathed iron longsword as he fiddles with the handle. He had drawn and re-sheathed it several times while walking here from the smithy, appreciating how it felt like an extension of his own arms.
”We’re off to the mines today.”
Chonk will defer to those who are better communicators and be content to listen in to the discussion regarding the finding of the mine, any secrets we should know, and information about the lost golem.
Sindri looks at Lefaris with surprise when she doesn't take the emeralds offered to her. She then shrugs and puts them back in her pouch. She walks up to the Cleric, "Good morning Cleric, I believe we are ready to head off on the mission you requested, if you wouldn't mind giving us as much information as you have before we head out?"she looks to her friends, "am I missing anything?"
Chonk, you cheerfully announce your presence to the cleric.
As you all enter you find find them kneeling before the statue of Notch at the front of the chapel. The sick villager who was here previously lies before him dressed in white robes and with an emerald placed on each eye. The villager is clearly dead.
The cleric rises and gives you all a sad smile; "Number forty nine turned in the night and we were forced to end their suffering."
They lead you into the office area and take a seat, gesturing for you all to do the same. "So you have decided to accept the job at the mines? This good. They are found but a few days travel to the north... here I have a map somewhere."
The cleric shuffles around in their drawer and produces a simple map of the region :
They explain, "As I mentioned, the undead trouble has grown worse since the mine collapse a few months back and besides regaining control of the mine I would like you to investigate what darkness has taken hold there. Before the collapse there were troubling rumours of ghosts and strange creatures in the tunnels. There is a small miners camp close to the entrance where some of the villagers remain, though they are too scared to enter."
At the mention of the Golem the cleric brightens, "Ah yes! if the golem can be retrieved that would be a great boon indeed. The smithy is correct a Redstone block from the mine stores should reactivate it if it is powered down, but you wont know the state of things until you find it I would guess."
(By the way did you all redistribute the emeralds etc from the merchant and the tanner?)
...40 emeralds; two potions of healing and a potion of invisibility all told
