Perhaps it is the off-putting smell, or maybe your eagerness to avoid the red-topped mushrooms. Either way, you do not notice anything out of the ordinary as you trudge through the thick overgrown vegetation.
As you trudge through the thick vegetation, you are sure you can see movement from some of the thistly vines you pass. They creak and groan and you swear you see a couple of them detach from the walls.
There is no doubt in your mind, that as you trudge through the heavy vegetation you see several thistly vines detach themselves from the walls. You can tell instantly that they appear to be aggressive and position themselves in a way that suggests they are orchestrated. You feel the need to act quickly... perhaps if you strike now you might thin their number.
Additionally, the large shrubs in front and behind you wave back and forth, as though working themselves out of the ground. You cannot be sure, but perceive this to be an added threat.
((Should you choose to initiate combat, you will both get a surprise round.))
"Weapons out to fight," Nikita hisses urgently "it's hard to see, but these vines on the walls are coordinating an attack on us, as are the shrubs behind and in front most likely."
She already has her longbow out and nocks an arrow ready to attack as soon as she can, positioning herself in the middle of the hallway if that will give her space. She gestures to the others to form a defensive circle.
Faila, unaware of the predatory nature of the plant life, jumps to follow Nikita's instruction to get close together defensibly, although she keeps looking at the vines and shrubs, wondering how plants can coordinate an attack. But she hopes that Meresaa doesn't burn the whole place down with all these flammables... she remembers her own dangerous stunt in the snowy forest and how Maud almost got out of control.

Seeing Meresaa fire away, Nikita sends Thumbtack to distract a surviving vine by flapping her wings at it, taking the help action before flying back to her shoulder using her Flyby ability to avoid reactive retribution.
Nikita shoots at the distracted vine with an arrow from her longbow: Attack: 23 Damage: 7
"Let's try to form tight and keep moving forward towards Esther's voice (I hope). The attacking shrubs and vines are all around us and we need to get past them."
Ermasnietsz notices the creaking and groaning bunch of vines detaching from the wall and she can immediately relate it to a previous incident. Since the bear-like cluster of thick vegetation could easily take any form and move without inconvenience, these shrubs and vines might be able to do such things too. "Getting past these vegetation might prove more difficult than our expectations. I think these moving plants are'nt immutable, they're highly mobile."
She will quickly trace arcane sigils on the palm of her hand while chanting something in guttural tone. The ink of her tattoo extends to other parts of her skin to form temporary markings so that she's protected from unexpected attack. Finally, she will try to leave the room. "sslig'ne uns'aa dal jivviim"
Two of the shrubs look different to the rest of the vegetation. They sway back and forth in an unnatural movement, almost as if they are trying to loosen themselves from the ground in which they sit.
Nikita - As Thumbtack flies low the vines try and lash out at the owl. They are too distracted to notice your arrow whizzing through the air, it pierces the nearest one, cutting the vine in half. Though it still moves it seems to be a lot smaller than before.
Ermasnietsz - Not taking any chances you successfully cast Blade Ward prior to battle commencing.
The thistly vines raise themselves upright, whipping from side to side. Their movements seem aggressive, though they have yet to attack any members of the party.
Meresaa - You have already destroyed one of the thistly vines, blasting it to pieces with your [Tooltip Not Found], however, 5 more remain. In addition, you are aware that 2 other plant forms, larger shrubs, are beginning to animate and pull themselves from the ground. You will need to remove these strange plant-creatures before you proceed. It is your turn.

Seeing the rest of the thistlings spring up, Meresaa takes a cautious step back toward Faila as she retrieves and deftly ignites another flammable pouch from a pocket and tosses it at #1.
"Be careful, they're surrounding us!" she hisses as she glances back over her shoulder.
Action: Fire bolt - Attack: 25 Damage: 9 Movement: Step back and provide a bit of cover for Faila.
Meresaa shoots off a fire bolt at Thistling #1. Unfortunately, the bolt sails just wide of its target and blasts into the nearby wall, sending leaves and plant matter everywhere. No sooner as she shouts her warning, she notices that the Thistlings turn toward her in unison - clearly identifying her as the pressing threat.
Faila - You watch as Meresaa narrowly misses the nearest Thistling. Currently, their attention almost seems transfixed on her. Barbs line their vine-bodies and they sway menacingly. It falls upon you to clear the path of these creatures, it is your turn.
Faila shudders. Plants aren't supposed to be aggressive. Or move. But what do plants hate most? Focusing on a spot of thick foliage between Meresaa and the angry Thistlings, Faila thinks about the answer to her question--Fire--and remembers it with Druidcraft, bringing the small flame to light among its kindling.
Thinking quickly, Faila is able to drop the nearby torch into the mulchy basement floor. Uttering a few words under her breath she lights it using druidcraft. The combination of the torch and dead plant matter enables the fire to take hold; smoke rises steadily from the undergrowth, creating a pungent, foul smell.
The thistlings currently seem undeterred by the small fire.
Ermasnietsz - In front of you, the way is blocked by thistlings. Somewhere beyond the door, Esther Freyn is trapped and yelling for help. You get the sense that every second matters if you are to save the girl, it is your turn to act.
