Rum watches the effects of his draconic strikes closely, seeing the pain the lightning strike causes the giant creature. He sees the onslaught it is taking from all sides as his companions and the crew of the Scorpion attack with draconic icy breath, ballista and arrow. He hears Yam demand the release of Tuto, and then to his surprise and delight Tuto appears out of the jaws of the beast, still with fight left in him!
He tenses as the creature screams at him, watching as it strikes out in vain with a huge tentacle, but he is too quick and it misses the mark.
“It really doesn’t like lightning!”, he shouts and advances as the creature retreats back off the edge of the boat and into the water. Seeing it trying to escape from his vantage point crouched on the edge of the boat, he instinctively summons the draconic power that he was gifted during the trial at the monastery. He takes a deep breath in and releases the energy from his mouth, a 30ft long stream of lightning aimed directly at the beast.
Choosing to exhibit caution, he then retreats a little way back, outside the range of those tentacles, but still with eyes on it.
Movement: To the edge of the boat
Action: Breath of the Dragon - Damage (2+1) = 3 [Lightning], DEX 16 Save for Half Damage
Movement: Retreats a little out of range of the tentacles
Greko begins to shoot a guiding bolt (Roll: To Hit: 1d20 (1) + 6 = 7)at the monster as Yam's voice booms out, Tuto jumps out of the creature's mouth, and the Auryn speaks to him. Greko startled throws his arms up at the trees and his bolt goes sailing into a giant oak. He moves towards the back of the boat to listen to the Auryn.
As the creature is running away, Yam does not chase. Instead, she calls to everyone around. "Is anybody hurt? Come to me and I'll mend you wounds!"
Until anyone does, if they do, Yam opens her senses. Are frogs of varying types really all what was terrorising the place? She wonders if that's truly so. Could there be anything else around?
Yam uses her action for Divine Sense.
As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell.
"Ooo... oo... " Tuto clumsily rose to his feet, sword still in hand. He had almost fell to his knees in relief when he saw that the monster had left the boat. He heard muffling, it sounded like someone offering help. Why, Tuto didn't even have the strength to play his music right now, he needed every ounce of aid he could get! Tuto then stumbled over to Yam.
"Oooo...O." He mumbled. He tried to lift his arm to put his blade away, and he cried out in agony. His arm wasn't moving properly.
"Clean! Nets Clean! Nets!" Alwyne was screaming now as he tried to prevent the horror in the water from getting away. "Someone kill 'at thing!"
Sailors worked feverishly to crank back the bows on their ballistas and started firing, even though the bow obscured their target. A bolt stuck in the monster's side as it was bombarded by the band from the deck. A second bolt went high and plunged into the river beyond. The third shot hit home. The monster, already floating, was unmistakeably dead at this point, killed by the myriad spells and arrows and bolts.
There was croaking along the shore, and if ever giant frogs could sound sad, these surely did as the Scorpion plowed forward and pushed the body of the monstrosity out of the way, letting it spin a lazy turn in the river before it sank.
Within moments a group of three bosun's mates came stumbling up from below deck with a huge wad of fishing nets, tripping over themselves as they tossed them up onto the main deck.
"Too late now lads." Captain Saewulf said, stepping from the helm long enough to look overboard ad the sinking creature. "Let's kee' those up 'ere though, shall we? May nee' 'em again."
Greko turns back to the group and confidently walks back knowing his companions probably survived and killed the Croaken"Nicely done! Nicely Done! Fine job by all.... Tuto are you ok? Masterful job slicing the croaken up as you lept from its mouth. Lelith, what fantastic archery skills! Do you see anything else up there? Yam, you were marvelous! You are the red oak of our group! Rum and Ro both magically inclined to hurl your breath at the croaken with such precision and skill! Oh you were all so skillful. Greko....I am honored to humbly accompany you all."Greko bows to them all after finishing his praises
With the biggest threat taken out, Ro allows himself to relax a little. "Thank you, Greko. I appreciate the praise, and am glad none of us were killed in the chaos. However, I wish I could've done more to protect the sailor." Ro looks towards at the crushed sailor and his smile fades away. Ro stares at the corpse for a while until the sounds of the Bullywug's sorrowful croaks reach his ears, and it snaps him back into work mode. "Alas, we're not completely out of the woods yet. Prim."
In response to Ro's command, a hummingbird appears from thin air and flies several happy circles around the elf-dwarf. Ro smiles faintly and puts out a pointer finger, allowing the hummingbird to perch on it. Those who watch notice that the hummingbird is otherwordly, as its feathers shimmer in the sun and reflect all the colors of the rainbow. "It's been a while, friend. I need you to fly around the ship and keep lookout for me. If you see any bullywugs or anything suspicious making its way towards the boat, come let me know." Given its orders, the multi-colored hummingbird flies off and proceeds to serve as a sentry around the ship.
Ro then unclips Kazek from his waist and flips his sentient spellbook open, "Help me out a bit, Kazek.""Aye aye, captain!" Ro begins to chant, "Let me understand these beast's anguish, let me understand all language." In response to Ro's spell, Kazek emits a faint bluish glow for a moment before dissipating. Ro then listens to the wails of the bullywugs, trying to parse any information that may be valuable or helpful.
1) Ro summons his familiar (from Find Familiar) to keep look out. It is flavored as a hummingbird, but uses the stats of an owl.
2) Ro casts Comprehend Languages using his Awakened Spellbook feature. He uses Comprehend Language to listen to the Bullywugs' wails along with anything else they may be saying, such as further battle commands or anything that may be remotely useful.
Awakened Spellbook feature:
When you cast a wizard spell as a ritual, you can use the spell’s normal casting time, rather than adding 10 minutes to it. Once you use this benefit, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
Yam observes Tuto with a worried look. "Doesn't look well, does it? No worries, this is nothing I can't help." Yam lays her hand on Tuto's arm, just barely touching. "This might feel strange." Yam warns, and immediately after, Tuto starts feeling an intense itch in his arm, gone as suddenly as it started. "How is it now?"
(Yam expends 10 points from her Lay on Hands ability to heal Tuto.)
Tuto's glowing eyes flared for a moment as he backed away from Yam. What kind of healing...wait a second. His arm...its holding the other arm! They work! The arms are healed! Tuto cheered and danced around Yam. He went for a quick handstand, winced, and fell on his back. The gnome started to giggle as he gave Yam two mighty thumbs up.
Ro continues to listen to the bullywugs, but sees Yam heal Tuto. He is relieved to see his friend doing well again and walks over to the gnome who is currently on the floor. Ro hunches over and speaks to the gnome, "It was quite the shock seeing you devoured like that. I'm glad you're ok friend, though I'm sure your clothes has seen better days." Ro notices Tuto's garments covered in saliva and other bodily fluids. He uses prestidigitation to help tidy up Tuto. As Ro waves his hand over Tuto, the slime as well as any other muck and dirt seem to vanish, leaving the gnome's clothes spick and span.
Rum watches the monster floating in the water and being pushed out the way by the Scorpion and relaxes a bit. This was his first real taste of combat and he found his heart pumping very fast. Previously he had done more sparring than anything else, but his training seemed to just kick in and his instincts guided him.
The effortlessness of his connection to The Great Dragon had surprised him, especially when he channeled the energy for the stream of lightning from his mouth. Monks spent decades trying to master that and few ever did, but he had done it without thinking.
During the trial, when he had touched the great skull, he had felt something change within him, and he felt that even more so now. He felt the spirit of The Great Dragon guiding and aiding him. He didn’t know where the true champion from Dragon Claw had disappeared to, but he was more sure than ever now that he had made the right decision in coming to The Ivory Tower.
As Greko congratulates them he turns back to the ship to check on his comrades, seeing them all doing ok with Yam and Ro tending to Tuto. He smiles at the diminutive figure who fought his way out of the belly of the beast. His eyes turn skyward to Lelith, her ability to fly coming a little out of the blue, but certainly welcome. Seeing Ro breathe dragon fire was a sight to behold as well.
Even though they had travelled together for some days, he was aware that he didn’t truly know what each was capable of until today, and he wondered how much more was to come.
His attention turns to the cacophony of croaks coming from the shoreline, as he tries to make out how many of the frog creatures were out there, and whether they were on both banks or just one.
As it seems that the Captain is happy for now, he moves over to the bodies of the fallen frog creatures.
“What do we have here then? And what was that enormous monster?”, he asks of the others and the crew.
Lelith met the eyes of Rumble as he looked up at her, she gave him a faint smile. She hadn't expected the bloated creature to die so quickly, but she supposed the Scorpion's stings were not merely decorations. Her arrows that had rained down from above had remained unnoticed in the panic and chaos of the fight. Aside from the keen eyes of Rumble, it looked like, as well as the elf watcher.
Speaking of her, Lelith extended a hand toward Tahlia and with a downward nod of her head toward the deck below, wordlessly offered to take her down the mast if she so wished.
"Bullywugs." Clean says to Rum as he uses his good hand to rub the feeling back into his damaged shoulder. His arm doesn't look good. "They're everywhere in the swamp. Didn't expect them to try to take over the river though. As for that thing...I have no idea. Never seen anything like it before in my life."
The other sailors nearby voice agreement as the Scorpion cruises by the point where the thing sank.
"Nah miss...but thankee." Talhia said to Lelith. "I reckon I better stay here and stay watch."
See that most of the group is near Greko speaks up "I had a message come through on the Auryrn. I will relay it to you the best that I can. If we meet up with the Skullsplitters they are friendly. The goblins that fought with Blix did not come from Jared in the Labyrinth and Gobling City it seems. The goblins that met with whoever spoke over the Auryn said that Blix went home and that the group is headed to Eternia." With that Greko scratches his head and asks into the Auryn for the person who spoke to identify themselves
Ro overhears Rum's conversation with Clean and chimes in with additional information for all to hear, "I have been listening to the bullywags' cries with magic. Apparently, they worshipped the large creature as their god. They are deeply saddened by its death and fear the wrath it will incur by some other goddess of theirs. Also, I have my familiar keeping an eye out for us." Ro points towards the small, rainbow hummingbird flying in the sky, "The bullywags are retreating, I believe we have won ourselves respite from their attacks."
Ro listens to Greko intently as the lizardfolk relays the message he received. Ro couldn't make sense of all the new information Greko shared. Skullsplitters, who were they? So there are two goblin factions? Was it Blix that was last seen headed to Eternia, or was it the ally goblin faction that was making their way there? Ro was filled with questions, but held his tongue as it seemed Greko was still in the middle of conversation with whoever was on the other side of the Auryn.
"There seems to be a lot of these Bullywugs on both sides of the river. I would assume that without this monster that they revere they will be no more trouble", Rum says in reply to Ro.
On hearing Greko's message from the Auryn, one question springs to mind above the others. "Where is the home of this Blix?". That one question led to more though.
"The goblins who fought with him did not come from goblin city, but does that mean Blix doesn't call it home either?", he muses. "Does this change our plans to head to The Great Deku Tree, the goal is still to stop the alicorn getting to the Lord of Darkness and Blix may not even still have it?".
These are all questions that the group have time to ponder as they wend their way down the river to Cloveresse.
As soon as Lelith stepped on the deck, she started bleeding from her nose and coughed out a bit of blood which she quickly wiped. She found that whatever spell those cursed Bullywugs had cast dealt a sharp and grievous injury to her mind. She put her palm against her forehead and quietly incanted a healing spell that undid most of the damage done.
Greko returns to the group again with a look of concern "The person speaking on the other side was Kerwyn of the Dawn Guard. I tried to follow up with them but they went..... silent"
