As the elf-dwarf stands in the rune, a blue fog similar to the one the merregon had created earlier seeps out from its confines. As the fog slowly begins to envelop the rune and Ro with it, onlookers can see the elf-dwarf waiting eagerly with a prideful smirk on his face. Fog continues to flow until the entire north-east corner of the room is filled, preventing the rest of Ro's party from seeing the elf-dwarf and the chest he stands beside.
From within the dense fog, a spectacular flash of red light throws a momentary silhouette of the fog's inhabitants: an outline of Ro bracing himself from the light and an unidentified silhouette of a four-legged beast with a halberd strapped across its back. A mighty BORK!!! booms from the fog and echoes throughout the room, followed by an Aaaaah! from Ro. The sharp sounds of steel clashing against steel can be heard.
The fog begins to settle and as it deflates to the floor, a white, fluffy tail pokes out of the fog waving back and forth. The tail brushes away the last of the fog, revealing a Samoyed clad in armor with a hilariously small halberd strapped to his back; the dog's equipment similar to that of the Merregon's. Ro continues to yelp and laugh in uncharacteristic glee as the conjured dog berates him with licks and snuggles. The joyous moment lasts for several more seconds until the Samoyed gets off of Ro and allows the elf-dwarf to stand. With a parting Bork!the Samoyed sits and pants happily as the rune's effects fade away and the half-dog/ half-happy-cloud disappears with it.
Ro takes a moment to brush some dirt off his armor before looking at his bandmates with a smile he can't seem to wipe off his face, "Well, the rune has been handled. Let's see what's in the chest."
Rum listens to Ro think out loud for a while whilst he relaxes against the pillar. He is not overly sure what the detail of Ro's mutterings are, but he can see the wizard getting excited and trusts him enough not to worry overly much.
He remains seated but leans forward as Ro walks into the rune, tensing slightly as the fog appears. He comes to his feet as the noises from the fog get louder, but the fog soon dissipates and he slumps down again watching Ro with the strange dog creature.
"Masterfully done, friend Ro", he says congratulating the elf-dwarf. "I am sure we are all interested in the contents of the chest", he adds with a smile.
Ro opens the chest and his eyes widen at the wealth of items inside. The elf-dwarf takes great care in placing each item on the floor for his band mates to inspect.
Rum's eyes light up as Ro draws a belt out of the chest. It looked similar to one he wore already, except for the ornamentation on the buckle, which was fashioned into the exquisite form of a dragon's head, seemingly consuming the tail and locking the belt together. The eyes of the dragon's head were inset with small rubies.
He stands up, appearing quite taken aback and shy. "May I...that is...could I....would anyone object to my having that belt?", he says looking at it almost reverently.
Greko looks in the chest "My what a lot of knick-knacks for you all." Greko smiles and moves to the throne and sits down "Oh my sore legs. Greko will sit for a moment" and proceed to take a little nap
Oten by this point has mostly ignored the commotion with the summoning circle and the chest. He has now accumulated a small pile of books he deems relevant sitting on the table. He is seated upon the throne rapidly scanning the text contents of each book.
When he closes the last book, he says "Well, if just for the information, I'd say this trip has not been fruitless. I have learned much about the Lord of Darkness, and some about Ganondorf. They do indeed seem to be allied, though by what is written here The Lord of Darkness may not intend to cleave to that alliance forever. Of course, he also may. I do not pretend to fully understand the inner machinations of evil minds..." He pauses uncomfortably for just a slight moment before moving on. "These books here, that creature, a Merregon, that we just fought, they are all The Lord of Dark's work. I suspect the same is true of most of what else we have encountered here. He is turning to Subternea forces to reduce his reliance on the goblins."
Oten flips a page. "What's more, I have learned a bit about both of their natures. This may or may not be news to you, but it seems the Lord of Darkness hails from a plane somewhere between Subternea and... the Night Realm? Twilight? There are multiple interpretations. But whatever that second plane is, I believe that is whence Ganondorf draws his current power. And the Lord of Dark likewise seeks to draw aid from other planes, but as of the writing of these books he lacks the means or knowledge to do so." He sets down the book and sits back in the throne.
"It is regrettable that we are confined to this plane. His operation seems to be occurring on many fronts that we just can't reach. And I am personally quite curious about interplanar travel. But alas..."
Greko wakes with a snort "Oh what's this...Oten dear fellow if you wanted the chair I would have moved...I am too old for lap sitting" Greko gets up and allows Oten to sit
Before anyone could utter a word, the inconspicuous amulet was snatched and put away by Lelith. She did not say a word, up until Oten spoke of things that should not be known. At least not yet. She narrowed her eyes. "It is called the Twilight Realm, yes. It is a world of shadows and perpetual twilight whose only source of light comes from the two sacred orbs known as the Sols, they are kept in a shrine at a palace in the middle of the plane."
"However, it is none of your concern, Oten. Nor is it for any of you. Our battle is in Hyboria and nowhere else for now. I have my ways to walk between worlds but unless it is absolutely necessary, we will not be doing as such." Lelith was unwilling to have her companions travel beyond planes for whatever reason.
Oten starts and jumps up when he realizes he'd sat upon Greko. "My apologies, I did not notice you there. My processors were at capacity so extraneous data was being filtered out. Please, sit. I insist. I have less need for such a resting place."
Tuto's ears caught the curious when Ro put down two items that sounded like sand was in them. Similar in shape, looked two small to be something to crack a kneecap. It sounded so familiar. How did it go again? Tuto picked up the two small clubs...wait, they were small enough to fit in his hands! Its like they were maid for him! He shook one, the sound of sand in leather bounced quietly off the walls. When he did, a small mote of blue fire skipped by, then dissipated. He gasped, that wasn't his magic. But....oh. "Ooooooo..." He shook them again, more motes of fire danced about, then vanished.
"Oo o ooo." His arms started moving on their own. This occasion needed a song. As he played. More and more motes of blue fire, of various sizes and shapes, began to dance around the group to the rhythm of the maracas.
Rum wanders over to the items and retrieves the belt as Oten feeds back on what he has learnt from the books in the bookcase he discovered. He then looks across at Lelith to listen to her words as he removes his belt, folds it neatly and puts it away, then puts on the new one from the chest.
"Friend Lelith, you have knowledge far beyond the scope of my comprehension, and I often get the feeling you are holding things back", he says matter of factly. "I only hope you do not wait until it is too late to trust us", he continues, tilting his head briefly as he regards her, before Tuto's sound and light show takes his attention and he settles back down against the pillar to watch.
He sits tapping his clawed foot along with the rhythm Tuto plays on his new maracas.
"I am not inclined to share everything I know, for there are too many. I have told Ro everything about what awaited us and the true scope of our mission when we were still in God's Eye. As well as many things about myself. If he didn't share any of it, that is not my fault." Lelith decided to throw Ro under the chariot. She suspected as much by her earlier prompt, but they didn't know. Ro withheld what she had told him from the others or perhaps he simply forgot. Lelith didn't believe in the latter, it was far too important to forget after all. She didn't trust the machine but for now, he didn't seem to be malicious and that'll have to do for the time being. She didn't have the luxury of trust. "The Twilight Realm isn't something we should think about currently. We have other priorities at this time than other planes with flights of fanciful interplanar adventures and that is Hyrule Castle and the Princess, of course."
Greko listens, and "wakes" at the word fanciful "Fanciful you say? I do miss those fanciful little treats villagers used to make for me...what are they called...they are dough with fruit fillings...sometimes there is a sugary glaze on top...The word escapes me"
Ro was still gleeful from past events and it had translated into a momentary confidence; so, uncharacteristically, he makes a calm retort to Lelith's accusation, "Ah we did speak briefly in God's Eye. But not in the great detail you make it seem to be, nor did you share any information that would answer Oten's inquiry satisfactorily. I was only told that we face forces not of this realm, and that our plane is only the chess board in which the dark forces play their hands. That said, I chose not to share our discussion as most of it seemed to be personal information that you should tell at your own pace, not mine."
Ro looks to Oten, , "Sorry friend, but I'm just as in the dark about this Twilight Realm as you are. But the journal we found earlier also spoke of how the Lord of Darkness was seeking to decipher a device of sorts. I reckon said device is the cube we found earlier, and like I warned before, there's a sentience dwelling within its confines that is not of this realm. Perhaps the answers to your questions lie within the cube. Though we should take precautions when handling the device."
Lelith blew on a loose strand of hair as she puffed up. "Whatever suits you, my friend. I had given more than enough and any more would have been counterproductive to our mission. Up until now, the others were unaware that our enemies were not limited to this plane and that is all they need to know, any further is unnecessary. The more knowledge you have, the more susceptible to unwanted influences you can be. There are rules to follow, and you can draw the attention of powerful existences merely by mentioning their name." At least, that was how the Feywild worked and Lelith had no reason to believe it would be any different elsewhere.
She turned away at his attempt at kindness. "And since when did people care wherever the recipient of the personal information is willing to share it or not? I appreciate the thought but, again, it was unnecessary."
Rum looks from Lelith to Ro, then back to Lelith, listening intently to the information they were sharing and trying to ignore the tone they used. It was no secret that these two butted heads, and if anything he is more surprised that they shared any secrets at all.
"This is most interesting, we finally seem to be getting some truth, well those of us who weren't already privy. Am I hearing correctly that Lord Darkness has been trying to figure out a way of harnessing power from these other realms you speak of, but he wasn't getting very far. Then Ganondorf comes calling, someone who is already capable of doing this, and they leave together whilst the cube the Lord Darkness is researching is left behind. No longer needed perhaps", he says with furrowed brow.
"So we are now contending with two powerful forces at once, likely both capable of drawing this power from elsewhere making them both extremely dangerous", he continues.
"I do agree our current path takes us to Hyrule Castle, but cutting off their source of power seems to me to be a sensible thing to do, and not something to rule out. If that means...how did you say it?...Interplanar adventures? If that is the path the Great Dragon has set me on, then so be it. Wherever the path takes us", he finishes and looks around at the others with a resolute look.
