Dageron listens to Delphinium. When they finish their assessment he adds, "This is a more refined explanation than my instincts earlier would allow. I am trained not to entertain unknowable threats when there are clear ways to remove them altogether. I view this entire place as a static defensive screen. A scrimmage line to protect an all-important center. Whether there actually is a literal center from which this all sprang, or the 'center' is the force of corruption itself at work. Whatever the case, this variable will remain an imminent threat so long as we leave it in play. It surrounds us, risks our ability to escape, and holds many yet undiscovered abilities which could end our mission in disaster.
"I may seem like a callous person in my assessments, but the stakes truly are too high and the complexity of this corruption too great. This corruption is obviously total. There is little chance we will find any settlement which lacks significant magic and defenders unaffected, and more likely such places will be themselves further danger to us. I care nothing for formalities and etiquette, I was not assigned under Adam's command, nor of the nobles of this realm at all. I serve Alliance Command - as do we all. Our mission is to succeed, not to risk success for every strategically irrelevant town and sentimental feature of the landscape. Delphinium gives ample reason for us to make haste for the Labyrinth, but also gives credence to my suggestion of burning en masse this entire region.
"Ultimately, I will not go against a decision to further scout the area. But, I feel we have already been too reckless, and would ask that you each consider what is in balance. We cannot fumble our way through every challenge as oafs would, hoping that pluck and wit will win us the day. We are not children."
Ward looks around at the abominations that attacked them and listens to Delphs statement, nodding in agreement. “I would prefer our first stop be the Labyrinth, they likely have been keeping this out and have been most proficient in combatting it, however Adam I recognize that you may wish to ensure the safety of your towns, and I would be happy to assist. No matter what however, I agree with Delph, the infected parts of this forest must go. After we have found the extent of this, I , I suggest we do a controlled burn and funnel these creatures towards likely the labyrinths entrance, and cut them down should we not find a cure.” Ward says, hesitating but knowing it is the likely best option, before he begins to sit on the group and fiddle with some equipment making some odd contraption while everyone discusses what to do.

Travin slides unceremoniously off of Artax and sets down his chair, flicking a wrist and muttering he makes Birt's flame patch grow once more and leaves the giant to play. Perching upon his chair Travin sits for the moment letting the chaos of the terrain seep into him, feeling it out, the dead creatures (the few left offer after Travin's harvest), the spores, the vines that still live... "can Fireflight fly high? Hmmm? Cast an eye over this place and look for where it seems to protects, maybe where the bleedings trees are thickest yeh yeh" Travin is calm, irritated, the kind that silences someone who is normally quite chatty.
After around ten minutes travin gets off his chair and makes his way around the combat area looking up at the trees, down at the floor, pinning his hands on his hips in contemplation as a wisp of magical energy floats from his eyes, "illusions hmmm, all of it, yeh yeh everywhere, just reeks of little illusions here and there, extendings out in all directions..."
Shavaris sheaths her new scimitars, and as soon as she does her hair goes back to normal. She listens to Delph and Dageron, though not meeting Dageron's eye after dragging everyone into this fight that he thought unnecessary. It was though, in her mind, they now know more about this forest and what it holds.
She waits to hear Delph's answer about flying high and seeing if there is anyway to find out the source of this corruption, though she doubts it. When they get back, she asks, "Fireflight, can you explain the claws? That was something I've never seen from you, it was very, um, surprising. What caused it?" she looks at her friend with concern as she waits for an answer.
"Sorry Kerwyn, oh, I mean Adam, but I'm afraid I agree with the rest and that we need to press forward towards the labyrinth. This corruption is not from the labyrinth, but our intel says that it is leaking and we need to know what is going on and also hope for some assistance in that direction. Hopefully we can figure out how to stop the corruption of this forsaken place."
Adam stands with arms crossed and hears all of the discussion, boots still smoking after the flame, the smell of napalm in the air. He glances around at the woods as they speak, his jaw is set and his face is firm. He nods when Delph finishes, saying “You’ve got a number of good points there little pal. I getcha.” But then he swivels around to Dageron, saying “I know you may not be from here Mr. Ironbritches and you’re probably fine to just set this whole continent ablaze, turn it into glass by turnin my man Ward here loose with some massive napalm bomb to just wipe everything out. Nice and clean, right? Well, that won’t fly. Not with me, no sir.”
He turns to everyone, saying “Please, this is my land, my home, these are my people…“ he taps his chin, thinking, “and now they are my responsibility. I know, we are battling for the whole world as well. But I can’t just say “Burn em all and let Travin sort em out.”, I can’t do that! I have to at least try, I have to give them a chance, and see if there are any people in the nearby towns that can be saved, that can be evacuated. Can’t you see? If we say “Screw ‘em, it’s for the better good, they are either zombies or we’ll torch them”, then we’re - - we’re really no better than Vader. Right? I’m sure he would be fine with that plan, if he were here. Well no thank you, Mr. Ironbritches. No sirree bob. Not my people. I’m going to save whoever I can, and then if we have to go find the crystal ball juggler, so be it. If you really think about it, I think I’m right about this.” Adam stands arms crossed, a stern look on his face.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Dageron raises an eyebrow, more gravel to his tone in reply than the group had heard to date (angry Sicario-level Josh Brolin). "Once again your instincts are wrong. Vader would seek to control this place and all of the corruption within it. Even if that failed he would find a way to use the misery here against his enemies. I am not him or those he serves. You have more in common with him than I ever will, young lordling. He too acts from emotions. He too does not care about the costs so long as he gets to save what he thinks he loves, ever selfishly. In many ways you are one bad day away from walking his path."He lets the words sink in before continuing.
"But, as I said, I will scout this place if that is the consensus. Now, what of this 'ball juggler' that you speak of? Is there one of these lands with some special power to combat all of this?"
During the debate Johnathan snaps his fingers to dispel the light, seeing the danger rest at bay for now. Johnathan stokes his goatee as he tries to decide what is the best course of action. I understand. I understand why some of you want to press on to the mission. I understand why some want to save the people of this land. If I could add my own opinion into this I would have to agree with Adam. He pauses as he looks to the trees, slowly raising his head to see the sky above. You know this isn’t the first time these woods have seen a great evil. The battle of the unicorns took place here with goblins and vampires destroying everything. It had monsters that could disappear and hunt, it even had the messed up labyrinth that was housing an entire goblin army. And yet the people of this land did not perish. They endured great hardships and managed to keep their home save. If anyone could survive these woods it would be them.
I joined this battle to save my homeland from darkness. There may be some casualties of war but to not even put an effort. That’s wasteful. He turns to the hobgoblin. I get it. You are looking for some tactical reason to help these people, something to help in the battle ahead. There is none. However if we sacrifice everything for this war and not try to help others along the way we will end up with nothing left to defend.
Adam, I will send my familiar to fly over these woods to the village. I should be able to maintain concentration and sense through him. No matter what the others decide I will go with you to the village if needed. We could split up and regroup. All I ask is if the dawn guard can wait until my familiar returns. That way if we decide to split I can send the familiar with the other party as a way to keep in contact. Is this reasonable?
Once the conversation is over Johnathan calls Echo to his arm and tells him Fly my pretty, fly. Echo will fly over the forest and go to the village. Johnathan will sense through his senses along the way.
Travin comes back to his chair, lifts it and moves it behind Johnathan, "scout is well and good buts Dawnguard should move, hmmm? out-voteds are those who want to steer clear of this place yeh yeh" he says to the group as he unceremoniously pushes Johnathans body into the chair and lifts the man up onto his back ready to carry on out of this area.
Birt plays a little longer but comes to a stop when he sees the group forming to move off once more, Travin starts speaking out in the goblin tongue to no one in particular;
"One bad day is all it takes anyone, yeh!..
Be happy that the first assessment Dageron made was right, but beings right is not always for the best. Dawnguard is wrong in many ways, this is how Dawnguard does things, sometimes badly, sometimes carelessly, but always with heart... Dageron could learns a little hmm? Dawnguard was, after all, the only truly successful group."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As soon as Johnathan feels his body being moved he returns to his senses. (Sensing through familiar only makes me blind and deaf. I can still feel what is happening to me.) What in obl….. Johnathan takes a second to see what has happened to him. He looks at Travin as he puts him in the chair that they fixed not so long ago. Couldn’t even wait a minute I see. Very well. Johnathan sits back in the chair and continues to view with Echo, looking for any obvious dangers ahead.

Shavaris slides down off of Running Bird and heads over to Adam. "If checking on your towns is something you feel that strongly about, I'm with you. I would like to know what Echo and Delphinium can see from above as well to give us more information before we head out."
She turns to Travin who is already packing up and leaving, "Do you know where you are heading? Might make sense to decide on a direction before we leave the clearing, and I don't think it would be a good idea to split up, no matter what we do. And Dageron, we might find more about the gathering army as we head to more of the area which is also part of our tasks, is it not? Please, let us not fight amongst ourselves."
Ward takes his contraption and slings it over his shoulder, a massive tube with a water pouch at the end. Moving towards the front of the group. “Just tell me which way we’re headed, I shall clear the way. Whoever has the decanter if you wish to keep the fire from spreading out too much feel free, however, if we get a few extra trees I won’t feel too bad.” Ward says, as they move Ward will flamethrower any of the living vines and such that look like they would threaten the group as they traverse.

Dageron stays silent, but pulls off his helmet and arming cap in anticipation of the ambient heat to come. As the 'flamethrower' begins to emolate the corrupted forest he takes a moment, kneeling as he does.
Telepathically, he speaks to Mogwai.
"Do you smell that?"
Confused, the Gremlin replies with a mental, 'huh?"
Dageron asks again, this time clarifying. "Do you smell that? The emolation of living things? Nothing else in the world that smells like that. I love the smell of fire on the battlefield."
He thinks briefly, a smile flickering on his face. In the security of their link, just between the two, he shares a story. "You know, one time we had a battle for twelve hours, entirely spent raining a hailstorm of flaming arrows and mage fire. When it was all over I walked up to the enemy position. You know, we didn't find one body? That smell, you know? That charred smell; it was all we found. It smelled like victory. These others don't have those memories. They have never experienced one-sided war, nor bitter defeat as a way of life. I have seen my kind on the wrong end of that smell as well. Fire works. Remember that. You are susceptible to water, so you may consider the importance of mastering fire. If you do, you will become very familiar with that smell."
When done with the brief exchange he wipes his brow, then pulls his arming cap and helmet back on. He stands and quickly falls in line with the others.
“Scouting is fine. The quicker we can know the answer the better. Please search the area around Falcon Crest, we are near there. I can’t turn my back on these people!”
Adam turns and stands toe to toe with Dageron in a “knock this battery off my shoulder, I dare ya” fashion. “I’ve stood up to Vader, fought with him hand to hand, close enough to smell his stinky breath through his respirator. I am nothing like him. I looked at him and saw blank hate in him. That is not my way.”
He gestures to his friends of the Dawn Guard, to the scouting going on, the teamwork. “This is the way.” He looks down at his nearly severed arm that has healed, but with a mighty scar, then he wiggles his fingers, thoughts far away from here, and then finishes his stare off with Ironbritches and starts to walk towards Johnathan, anxious for news.

Delphinium nods and replies "I sure can. My hawk is up there too and I need to make sure the eggs didn't get hurt anyway." They zoom up in a blur of light to scope out from high above. The tiny fairy turning slowly around in the sky as they try to spot the nearest structure or odd looking location. Hoping to see that there is an end to this awful blight in sight.
She waits to hear Delph's answer about flying high and seeing if there is anyway to find out the source of this corruption, though she doubts it. When they get back, she asks, "Fireflight, can you explain the claws? That was something I've never seen from you, it was very, um, surprising. What caused it?"
The fairy flies back down and when Shavaris asks about his claws he seems a bit confused at first like something isn't lining up for him. He says "Oh that's my... wait... why haven't I been using my claws? Huh... ummm.... I'm not sure why I haven't been using them but its my predator claws. My dad showed me how to make my hunter's instinct manifest in my astral form. I only use them when I intend to kill though. Pretty cool right? I have no idea why I've never shown them to you before... huh... odd... I can't remember the last time I used them..." The fairy seems very confused for a bit and has to land as they set atop Shavaris' shoulder if they let them. The fairy looking very troubled suddenly.
The others begin to talk about the plan and what is next. Delphinium however seems very confused and troubled. They flew up and looked around then came down but now they seem distracted and confused as they sit upon Sharais' shoulder. Not adding the conversation.
The day, if you can call it a day in the traditional sense, stretches on with unimaginable longevity. The forest does the same. Neither seems to relent as the Dawn Guard presses on toward Falcon Crest.
At one point, a flock of...well, they have to be owls, right? These featherless bird that appear to be wearing their skin inside-out walk across the path before the Dawn Guard and look at the traveling warriors with solid-white eyes. They don't blink, just keep walking on all fours, using clawed feet and featherless wings, walking in a manner that is reminiscent of a Landstrider as they go. They hoot to one another, each call too long and too soft and all manner of wrong...
Ward holds up the flamethrower at them, gesturing to whatever he most recently burnt with it. "Leave." Ward says as cold and toneless as he his able, matching their unblinking stare.

Travin continues carrying Johnathan whenever he needs, freeing him up to check the surroundings through his familiar, Travin also keeps a wary eye on the sky, this new twilight doesn't sit right with him and stresses him out. Offering a ride on Artax primarily to Dageron or Ward, those without mounts, when needed.
To Delphinium's confusion travin prods a little, "does Fireflight not remember the oath he made? Hmmm? Travin was told about the changes of words that changes the day yeh yeh, but has this changed Delphinium's memory hmmm? Is Delphinium still happy?"
Shavaris is glad when they finally get moving that they all have agreed on a destination... well sort of. Hopefully all decisions won't be like this. She looks around at the environment and it just makes her shudder and even more homesick. Being in a forest and not wanting to climb the trees was such a foreign concept to the wood elf and she was struggling with it.
As Delph settles on her shoulder, it lightens her heart a bit, the familiar feeling of her friend so near. But as they get quiet contemplating about killing and how they haven't used the claws before, Shavaris isn't sure what to say. She knows the story of what their father did to them, but they seem so happy now with all that forgotten. When Travin pushes them, she looks at the junkman with a furrowed brow and adds, "We have a lot to worry about right now, let's not add to it. I'm glad you're happy Fireflight."
She stops short as she sees the twisted land birds. Mouth agape. As Ward threatens them, she puts her hand on his shoulder to try and still him while they wait for the things to move along.

The tiny fairy turning slowly around in the sky as they try to spot the nearest structure or odd looking location. Hoping to see that there is an end to this awful blight in sight.
Perception: 21
