Adam steps forward with his lightsaber glowing orange and swings not to slice at the lumbering Treant, but to insert his lightsaber inside of it, and he slowly moves it. “Arbiter my ass! A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Pieces of Deadfall are broken off as Adam carves, and then begin to morph into the smaller versions of the larger entity. Unlike their master, and more akin to the others, all they can mutter is 'the flesh is weak' as the small squad of hostiles takes up attack positions and begin their assault.
As they swing on Shavaris, Adam, and Eloise, a flash of Johnathan's spell stuns and confuses the attackers, and the rest are too blinded to land their attacks...
Dageron, shakes his head in frustration at the unending and unyielding fortitude of the enemy, and its apparent ability to replicate. "It is not clear we can win this fight!" He calls to the others. But he knows they would not retreat. He closes his eyes, a silent prayer to the many Gods of War. He places Mogwai on the ground next to him, then he dumps his entire cantina of water on the small creature and backs away 30 feet. He pulls a rod from its sheath on his belt.
Action 1: Set Mogwai down. Action 2: Soak Mogwai. Move Action: Get the hell out of there. Bonus Action: Ready the rod.
What happens next is possibly one of the most disturbing and gross things they've seen all day...and that's really saying something considering where they are. Mogwai screams when water hits his back and immediately flops onto his belly. The skin on his back boils as if he's being torched alive, and the longer it boils, the more the boils begin to resemble hideously large blisters. The liquid filled sacks of skin begin to form shapes inside, each of which look like smaller versions of Mogwai himself...and then they begin to burst. Mogwai screams like he's in immense pain as they pop. Small, green balls are launched into the air, scattering into an area some ten feet in diameter...and each of the seven balls that were ejected from Mogwai's back start to stand up, revealing a small squad of rapidly enlarging Gremlins...
One of the miniature Deadfall's gets the drop on Adam, landing a powerful blow against the side of his head with its club. It tries to strike him a second time, but it misses him as he staggers...
The Oaken Treant doesn't hesitate. As if compelled, it moves fast to the point where Ward is buried and reaches through the burning thorns, scattering them as its fist plunges into the sandy ground and comes out holding Ward like a man with a hamster in his fist...
As Ward is extricated from the ground, Travin's held action goes off and instead of holding a medium sized warforged druid, the creature that the oaken tree pulls out quickly transforms into a mammoth which begins thundering the short distance to the ground once more.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Running Bird flies through the air from the hit by Deadfall, Shavaris cries out, "No!" but that cry is stopped short as the giant tree crushes the dire ostrich, the life of the bird she had spent so much time with extinguished. Tears start welling up in her eyes as this thing, this giant tree that keeps yelling has made her break her promise of keeping Running Bird safe to Ralik.
She blinks them away fiercely, taking in the situation as she tries to overcome the grief and realizes something, "It's taking Ward! It doesn't care about the rest of us, we need to save Ward!!" Making sure to steer clear of the little gremlins that Dageron has released, Eloise and Shavaris surround the tree again. Shavaris throws Sick at the branch holding onto Ward, and after it's attack, it lands in Eloise's hand. Eloise then does the same, attacking the other side of the branch, hoping to get Ward released from it's grasp.
With her bonus action, she throws Twisted at the branch as well, letting it fall back to her hand after the attack.
The Hemlock flares higher as the flames consume it. It simply continues to repeat the mantra, 'the flesh is weak...the flesh is weak' as it is burned alive.
The oak Treant heaves and then drops Ward as he is transformed into a mammoth.
Deadfall ignores the death of his loyal follower as the flames create a massive barrier. Instead, he continues his magical lock on Ward as a yellow cloud of spores falls from his bows over Shavaris, Eloise, Delphinium, Adam, and the Beavers. Two of the Beavers immediately begin to mill around as though they're confused.
"If we cannot take him, then we shall destroy him." Deadfall proclaims, seeing the mammoth hit the ground...
Johnathan snaps his fingers and disperses the radiant light. He turns to Delphinium, sorry about that. Healing light washes over Delphinium, healing some of the wounds they have received. Johnathan continues to shoot eldritch beams to deadfall.
Bonus action: healing light 15 healing to Delphinium
Travin watches Running bird get squished, watched Adam get hit, watches Johnathan accidentally daze a few dawnguard members and watches this deadfall thing not only shrug off damage like it's nothing but also not laughing at Travin's jokes! He's had enough.
Reaching into his ouch Travin pulls out a golden cast facsimile of Johnathan's hand, middle finger raised high to the sky and Travin lifts this above his head, "AAAAAAAAAAAAABRRAAAA"
The crude golden statuette lifts from Travin's outstretched hands and begins to levitate and glow as Travin moves his hand down slightly letting the offensive gold finger hover just above him. "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
With the mounting volume of Travin's incantation the golden statuette wobbles as it draws in power, it's unstable, it's flickering and glowing, but most importantly it's facing deadfall directly "FUUUUUUUUUCKYOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!"
With the incantation complete Travin slams his hands together above his head crushing the golden insult and a wave of force shoots straight toward Deadfall hitting him dead on (inspiration used.nat 20, for 27 to hit. Con save Dc15, take 100 force damage ignoring resistance, or half as much on a successful save), all mini Deadfall's and gremlins within 10ft of Deadfall are pushed 10ft away from Travin and then the fun begins.
Birt, who had been keeping his distance thus far, moves toward the massive tree and attempts to flank with Ward. The lumbering fire giant strikes out with a simultaneous bite and claw attack, the bite results in no more than a mouth full of twigs (9 to hit) but the claws sink in as Birt us just beginning his playful onslaught, (25 to hit, 9 slashing)
Deadfall catches the Eldritch Blast thrown by Johnathan and seems to shrug if off, only looking at the the Warlock like he couldn't believe the audacity of someone trying something so pathetic...
And then...
There's no dodging or resisting what happens next.
The blast of golden energy explodes from above Travin's head, whipping junk and hair and everything about in a gale-force wind that is unleashed. Deadfall has time to turn toward Travin and look upon his destroyer in the moment before impact, his face lit up by the same light that now bathed the forest around them. He says something, but whatever it is, it's drowned out by the sound of the explosion. His body is torn asunder, his parts littering the forest around them as he is blown to pieces.
With his destruction, Ward is freed from his bonds, and Deadfall's minions are all too stunned in the flash and spectacle to be able to react, can only stand by and watch, dumbfounded.
It only takes a moment before the pieces of Deadfall begin to move around. They appear confused...
Delphinium was viciously attacking Deadfall. Never stopping the relentless attacks. That is until they noticed something on Deadfall. The fairy pauses a moment in midair and then suddenly they make a dash for something dodging the swinging branches and hard wooden limbs that attempt to swipe the fairy out of the sky. He manages to grab something by flying right between all the leaves and branches of them. A sudden zip of light passing right though them and coming out the other side carrying something. Delphinium was apparently just fast enough too as a massive blast from Travin rips Deadfall apart into many pieces. The fairy holds a nest in their hands. empty and forlorn. It tenants obviously gone. The ringing silence and the absence of Deadfall there for Delphinum to pummel makes for a serene moment where the blue glowing Fairy floats where the giant treant once was now looking at this nest.
A bit disappointed that they can no longer get anything from Deadfall the fairy turns to the smaller versions of him and to the hoary oak tree that was fighting as well. These guardians have failed and with the sudden destruction of Deadfall Delphinium takes the moment where the smaller ones are all stunned and grabs their attention. The fairy giving them one chance as they hold the empty nest out for them all to see. "Is this what SHE wanted? Empty nests? You know this is wrong! That something happened to nature here." the fairy then looks to the largest, to the hoary oak and the splinters of Deadfall. "This is your last chance to do something good and repair the damage done here. Tell us the name of SHE who commanded Deadfall will get to live... if you don't...." The fairy summons all of their astral fists. Making well over 20 massive astral fists form around him making a massive ring of giant blue colored fists as a show of strength and might to intimidate the remaining enemies into submission. The fairy very much wanting the name of the one that is causing all this as he says "We will show you flesh is not weak."
Delphinium flies to be within 10 feet of as many enemies as he can and is holding an action to attack all remaining enemies for if they don't surrender. (all enemies that continue to fight with a 10 ft radius around Delphinium make DEX Save DC 17 or take 8 force damage) They will spare any who give the name of who commanded Deadfall or stand down in surrender.
The flying ball of fists zooms into the middle of a group of a group of the miniature Deadfalls and begins beating the hell out of them. Even the oaken Treant, standing nearby, isn't saved as he catches a fist to the face...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Last chance, last chance to talk. You can stop fighting and walk away from here… or… kindling. Just sayin’. Now. What the power puncher said. Who’s your leader? A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Adam and Ironsides catch one of the miniatures in a flanking movement and pummel it into splinters. Unlike the chunks that broke off Deadfall, though, these splinters do not start moving.
Seeing the futility of the battle, the mini Deadfalls begin to fade into the treeline. As soon as they get near a tree of sufficient size, they step up against it....and disappear...
Only a few remain, and the oaken Treant looks prepared to stay the duration....
Dageron holds up the Rod of Rulership and activates it. "You are new to this life, but the world is already against you. If you wish to survive then you must learn to harness your greatest asset - your numbers. Work together - destroy that Oaken Treant!"
(( The effects of the rod are to all creatures I can see that I choose within 120' - all Gremlins (excepting Mogwai) and all enemy small Treants must make a DC 15 Wisdom save. Once so commanded, he rushes over and collects Mogwai, securing him in one arm and pulling back once more away from the other Gremlins.
Action 1: The rod Bonus Action: Command the Gremlins and Miniature Deadfalls Action 2: Grab Mogwai
The Gremlins and five of the mini-Deadfalls swarm the oaken Treant, pulling it down in short order as they claw, bite, and pummel its body into splinters. Aside from the sounds of tearing wood and thundering clubs, it is a silent affair. The Treant only watches the the Dawn Guard with its strange eyes as it is broken and battered and killed. It watches them with the sort of cold disdain a sentient creature should not be capable of as it is killed...and yet, somehow, this Treant is. Even as the final blow is delivered across its bark covered cranium and the life fades from its eyes, it watches them.
At the same time, the handful of remaining mini-Deadfalls that had not already fled the battlefield slip away, literally melding into the trees around the arena. They are gone in a matter of seconds, somehow becoming one with the forest. As quickly as the fight had started, it was over, leaving the Dawn Guard with only Dageron's horde as it bludgeoned the carcass of the dead Treant and the sound of the burning hemlock Treant crackling and popping with its heat.
"The flesh is weak..." The forest whispers around them, as gentle as a breeze...and then even that is over.
Dageron looks a moment at the rod in one hand, and the small Gremlin in the other. "Curious." He remarks. Then he calls to the small horde still gnashing and clawing at the Treant corpse. "Go into the woods Northward and continue to fight any unnatural things you find there. If you encounter intelligent creatures capable of discourse and not hostile to you, then leave them alone. Everything else that you find that moves - kill. Protect one another and cleanse this land of all corruption. This is your creed now. Go."
As the battle ends Mammoth Ward rushes over to the downed Running Bird and let’s out a loud trumpet and points his snout at Travin to release him from his furred form.
