"Unfortunately, I do not. You see, the prospectors keep their maps and locations incredibly close to the vest as you can imagine, given their livelihoods at stake. I don't know of what young Carp spoke of but I certainly doubt it to be mines, even he is not foolish enough to wander up into the hills."
As the party leaves the exchange and rounds the corner toward the Stonehill Inn, you see four armed ruffians waiting for you. All of them are humans wearing grimy red cloaks, their hands on their weapons as they watch you.
One of the ruffians spits on the ground. “Time for you to move on, strangers. Give us your stuff, and be on your way.”
The closest ruffian who spoke before slowly draws his shortsword. "I say again, give us what you have on you and get the hell out of this village. You are not welcome here."
Jake steps forward towards the one who drew his sword. "Really gentlemen, I do not believe this is the time or place for this kind of thing. The middle of town, in the middle of the day? You clearly have a problem with us, but we don't even know you, or what you want. Shall we have a dialogue and discuss this like civilized men?"
As Ruffian 3 swings his sword to attack, Galben sends an arrow flying past his head, his attack missing. Ruffian three uses his multiattack to swing at Regula, the first hits and the second misses, causing 5 damage. As the fight begins, a cloaked figure steps out of an alley, drawing his greataxe. Tubard, you may take your turn with Ruffian 4 on deck.
Tubard removes his hood to reveal a scruffy-bearded barbarian. Standing at 8ft tall he towers over the Ruffian. "You need to understand your place in this village Ruffian. These strangers have done no harm to you." Tubard draws his greataxe and swings the heavy weapon with both hands towards Ruffian 4. Rolled a 14+5=19 and it hits. For damage rolled a d12 4+3=7
Tubard continues to engage with Ruffian 4 but keeps his peripheral vision on alert for any surprise attacks from behind
"Oh, we got a big one here." Ruffian four brings his shortsword around on Tubard for a multi-attack (22 & 21 to hit, both hit), dealing 14 points of piercing damage. "You should have stayed out of this fight, barbarian!"
Ruffian 2 charges toward Thallan and Galben, using multi-attack to melee attack both. As his sword makes contact with Thallan (17 to hit), his sword catches between Thallan's armor, drawing blood for 4 points of piercing damage. He parlays the attack, spinning around on Galben but strikes a glancing blow (11 to hit, fails).
Regula is up with Thallan on deck.
OldMan, I forgot to post about you looking around. In your investigation (12), you find several larger rocks along the side of the path in the 1-2 pound range. There is also several wooden barrels and crates next to a nearby building but all are greater than 5 pounds by your estimation.
Regula bum rushes Ruffian 4, colliding into the ruffian with his shield, using his forward momentum to bring his longsword crashing down. But, having lost some of his motion from his collision, the sword glances off the Ruffian's shoulder (10 to hit, which fails).
(FYI - I accidentally rolled my javelin in the game log rather than longsword but DC is the same.)
"Let me show you how it's done" (4+7=11) (pulls an arrow from his quiver and draws back, aiming at ruffian 3. The arrow flies over the top of his head)
Jake steps to the back of the group. "Ilmater, may your light burn brightly in these oppressive hearts!" He casts guiding bolt at ruffian 1. D20+5 = 10(miss!) (Horrible luck for each of us this round.)
Ruffian 1 makes to attack Glaben and then OldMan with its multiattack, slashing furiously through the mob of bodies engaged in close hand-to-hand combat. He strikes Galben with the full force of his blade (23 to hit, causing 6 points of piercing damage) but as he turns to strike OldMan, he trips on a stone in his path, tumbling to the ground face-first at the feet of OldMan and takes 3 points bludgeoning damage from the impact with the ground (crit fail on attack).
Bearkiller, it's your turn with OldMan on deck.
Given how poorly everyone rolled, I made a quick mock up of the battle map so you can flank, etc. if you'd like.
" Would you happen to have a map of the surrounding areas? Something we can use to plan our adventures?
The tunnels that Carp spoke of... would you be familiar with them? Are they old abandoned mines?"
(Galben)
"We appreciate all the information and your offer." (Walks outside)
Regula draws his sword and shield. "I do not take kindly to threats, particularly from lowlifes such as yourself."
Jake taps Regula on his sword hand. "May Ilmater guide your blade as you deal with these cads." Cast guidance.
(Galben pulls an arrow and nocks it, readying an attack if any ruffian makes an effort to strike a member of his party.)
OldMan casts Magic Missile at Ruffian 3. rolled a 2+1 =3 per dart so 9 damage to Ruffian 3.
After casting the spell, OldMan also around for something roughly 1-5 pounds laying around the street (ie. a rock or log etc) Does he see anything?

(Galben looks over at Thallan)
"Let me show you how it's done" (4+7=11) (pulls an arrow from his quiver and draws back, aiming at ruffian 3. The arrow flies over the top of his head)
(Looking back at Thallan)
"Hope you have better luck."
Jake steps to the back of the group. "Ilmater, may your light burn brightly in these oppressive hearts!" He casts guiding bolt at ruffian 1. D20+5 = 10(miss!) (Horrible luck for each of us this round.)
