The monster emerges from behind the stone pillar. OldMan hears in his head again, "All I want is food. If you or the Redbrands bring it to me, it makes no difference to me. What is this spider you keep talking about? Is it something for me to eat?"
OldMan to the group in a low tone, "What say you all? Shall we get the men's bodies we killed in the street to lure this beast into a trap? Or do we start ranged attacking now?"
to the nothic, "I assumed you were the mighty Black Spider we have heard so much about. Perhaps you are not that great organizer I thought. We don't want to kill you but we cannot allow you to continue to eat the townfolk here."
Jake pales slightly. "This thing, it is monstrously evil. There is no negotiating with it, no appeasing it. It must die." Jake moves forward, mace in hand.
The monster brandishes its talons as the group grabs their weapons. To OldMan, "The bodies they dump here are always dead, but still fresh. I don't kill them but I do have to eat. That's our agreement."
Could we get clarification where this nothic is compared to the members of our group? Also, are there any loose rocks on the cave floor?
Speaking to the nothic, "Who made this agreement with you? Glasstaff? We plan on ending the Redbrands and Glasstaff. If you are part of that evil then we will need to end you too."
Here is where I've roughly got people positioned based on what I heard you each describe. The nothic is essentially standing right in front of you at this point. There are loose rocks scattered throughout the cavern.
The nothic replies to OldMan telepathically, "Glasstaff, yes. I guard this entrance to the stronghold in exchange for gold and fresh meat on occasion. Nothing more. That was the deal we struck when they took over the rooms beyond. I stay here in this cavern and near my treasure."
OldMan in an attempt to distract the nothic and signal the group to attack when ready says, "You mentioned treasure. One of the Redbrands mentioned to us your treasure but didn't say what it was. It must be very valuable. The redbrand also mentioned that Glasstaff had plans to take it from you soon. I can understand Glasstaff wanting a powerful ally like yourself to be down here READY TO ATTACK anyone entering (placing emphasis on the capitalized words knowing the nothic could be reading his mind). I'D SAY ANYTIME NOW, Glasstaff will end your relationship. MAYBE WE SHOULD START making a deal ourselves. WHAT SAY YOU?"
"Enough of the games!" Regula rushes clockwise around the stone column and engages with the nothic in melee from behind, bringing his sword slashing down (18 to hit, dealing 12 points of damage).
Thallen steps up to swing at the monster but slips on some loose rubble. Not enough to make him fall but just enough to cause a disruption in his swing. His sword swings wide of its mark and he stumbles backwards a step or two.. 8+6=14 miss
The nothic wheels around and levels its single, great eye directly at Regula, using its Rotting Gaze. Regula succeeds on the con save and takes no damage. OldMan is up with Jake on deck.
Regula starts laughing at the weakness of the creature's attack.
FYI - Thallan has stepped back out of melee range to allow room for others and triggers an opportunity attack from the nothic. The nothic rears its claws, slashing ferociously at Thallan as he attempts to move away. It's a multiattack and swipes wide on the first but the claws sink into Thallan's flesh on the second (13 on first, 21 on second), causing 8 slashing damage.
Jake is overcome by the foul stench in the air and fumbles with his mace. He reaches out to the Nothic and casts inflict wounds hitting with a 23 (18+5) for 21 points of necrotic damage. Then he runs away to the west and then north, stopping 3 squares to the north of the Nothic (2 squares south of the next bridge), facing south.
(Bearkiller stands up)
"I'm ok, just afew bumps" (He climbs back up the side of the pit and stands with the others)

Tubard looks at Jake "I agree that this creature needs to be destroyed" I pull out one of my javelins ready to throw

(Galben Hunter's Mark the creature and shoots an arrow at the creature, missing to the left and hitting the stone pillar)
(Attack roll 4+7=11, miss)
OldMan yells to Galben "Nice shot blind eye. Maybe this monster's one eye has magical powers to improve vision."
OldMan also wondered what clockwise means. Maybe it is a Paladin thing.

Regula takes another swing and misses the nothic wide..
(Bearkiller moves around the stone pillar and stands next to Regula, Thrusting his rapier into the creature. Nothic yells out in pain.)
(Attack 11+5=16, 2+3=5 damage)
