Regula inspects the sword, turning it over in his hands but can’t place its provenance (7 history check). “This sword looks interesting but I don’t recognize it. Does anyone else have historical knowledge of these parts? OldMan, perhaps you could use this scroll?”
As OldMan finishes collecting 2 taloned claws from the dead nothic and putting them in his belt pouch, he asks for the scroll. "I will need to get some supplies in town to cast this spell but it looks to be useful in deciding our next quest's success. I think we best be moving on. Which path did we decide to venture into first?"
Galben recognizes the sword; it once belonged to a great knight named Aldith Tresendar, known as the Black Hawk. Sir Aldith died fighting off the orcs that attacked through this hidden cavern below his manor. Talon was lost here anear you suspect the nothic found it.
As the party makes their way into the first passageway to the west, you are met with a set of stone steps that descend several feet to the passage below. Galben is stealthily leading the way and reaches two doors, one north and one south.
You do not see any discernible traps and you quietly turn the door handle without resistance without actually opening the door, leading you to believe it is unlocked. Are you investigating the door in any other way?
The north door is also unlocked and does not appear to have any traps or markings. You see no visible signs of footprints to either door, but there appears equal wear on the stone.
I forgot to post that each party member gets 70 xp for killing the nothic. Also, for the time being until we figure out what to do with the nothic loot, I'd be glad to carry the +1 longsword and put it to use.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
As Tubard opens the door and steps into the room, he immediately stops in his tracks, realizing the moment he opens the door that he has walked directly into the barracks, which contains four roughly built wooden bunks, with heaped-up blankets and dirty dishes scattered about. A strong smell of unwashed bodies and rotten meat fills the air. Three tall, furry humanoids (bugbears) are lounging among the mess, barking orders at a sad little goblin that demeans itself for their amusement. Your sudden appearance causes the goblin to faint.
The Bugbears, surprised by the sudden appearance of enemy combatants at the door of the barracks, are unable to use their actions or reactions or move this first turn. The goblin is still unconscious. Jake, it's your turn with Tubard on deck.
Regula inspects the sword, turning it over in his hands but can’t place its provenance (7 history check). “This sword looks interesting but I don’t recognize it. Does anyone else have historical knowledge of these parts? OldMan, perhaps you could use this scroll?”
(Galben leans around Regula looking at the sword)
(History check 17+0=17)
"Regula, I think you are the only one who uses a longsword, it might be best used in your hands."
"I think we had decided to venture the path to the left first"
"Yes, to the left, next to the cave mouth" (south west tunnel.) Jake is already 15 feet into the tunnel.
(Galben checks the south door for traps and to see if it's unlocked, does not open it.)
(Investigation check 18+0=18)
(Galben also looks at the door for writing or symbols)
"Jake can you check that other door?"
Jake walks over to the north north, checking for traps, investigating for markings or writing. (Investigation roll 16 +0.)
Which door has more footprints in the dust? (Perception 12 +3 = 15)
(Galben looks back to the group)
"Should we go in this door (south) or have Jake check the other door (north) first?"
"What are our thoughts about possibly splitting up? Both doors seem equally safe/dangerous"
"I'm fine with going through one door or both." (Galben steps to the side) "I'll let you others lead, I know you all are ready for action."
Tubard slowly enters through the left door looking for any creatures or traps (Perception check 7+2=9)
(Oldman moves into the room and moves to the lest side of Tubard. He notices a bugbear right in front of him and casts firebolt(7+6=13, miss)
(Galben moves into the room in front of Tubard, turns left and sees a Bugbear, pulls out and arrow and fires. (2+7=9, miss)
(Thallan holds his turn until after Regula)
