OldMan rolls a Deception check 10+3+2(guidance)=15.  While making battle type noises.  Clanging his dagger against the floor and bones from the skeletons.

"Redbrands come help!! These skeletons have turned on me!!!  Oof you stupid cursed undead!! Help me men!!!  I need you!!!

(Galben readys an arrow to attack if he sees any Redbrands when the door opens.)

(Bearkiller moves to the side of the north east( away from the opening) door readying an attack with his rapier if am enemy passes or confronts him.)

The Ruffians, not being very smart and easily duped by OldMan's ruse, rush into the crypt with their shortswords drawn. They are surprised to find that Glasstaff is nowhere to be seen. OldMan, Galben, and Tubard (in any order) can make an initial attack against Ruffian A or B before battle commences.

Also, 25 XP for each player for defeating the skeletons.

(Galben let's his arrow fly at Ruffian A, it sails passe his shoulder and into the door, piercing the wood and stopping)

(Attack roll 3+7=10, miss)

OldMan casts Firebolt at Ruffian B 5+6=11. miss.   As OldMan starts the spell he accidentally steps on one of the bones of the skeletons and causes the spell to shoot above the target and instead slams a firebolt into the wall.

"Galben your aim is contagious."

"Third time's the charm!" Tubard throws one of his javelins (16+5=21 hit!)  at Ruffian A and pierces his right calf dealing 8 points of damage. "I guess we have a leg up on the competition"

Ruffian A winces in pain and the party prepares for combat.

"Good one Big Tubard"

(Galben grabs another arrow and fires at Ruffians A and pierces him with a strike through the shoulder. Attack roll 15+7=22, hit. Damage roll 4+3=7 piercing)

"Missing twice is not my vice this time gents!"

OldMan casts [Tooltip Not Found] at Ruffian A.  10+6=16 to hit 5 damage.  As OldMan concentrates on his target this time with sure footing a firebolt flies from his hands slamming the Ruffian in the chest Burning flesh.  The Ruffian screams in pain and collapses on the floor dead.

"Don't get cocky Galben.  I've seen you miss more shots than a pious cleric in a bar."

(Thallan lifts his Longsword over his head swings it down with both hands at Ruffian B. Bringing it through his collar bone and penitrating 4 inches into the shoulder blade.)

(Attack roll 9+6=15, hit. 5+4=9 slashing damage)

"Shut up you two, we have a fight to end. (Bringing his blade back up to his side.)"

Jake runs up to Ruffian B. With a mighty yell he swings his mace, missing wildly (11 to hit.) Jake circles around Ruffian B to his unprotected flank, giving someone else an opportunity for the killing blow. 

(Bearkiller moves next to Ruffian B flanking him with Jake. He jabs his blade through the ruffians throat and he falls to the ground)

(Attacking with advantage and Sneak attack. Attack roll 17+5=22 hit, 6+3= 9 points of piercing damage and 3 points of sneak attack damage)

"Thanks for the help Jake."

The party, making quick work of the two ruffians, catch their breath and look into the room from whence the ruffians came.

(Galben collects the 2 short swords and 2 sets of studded leather armor and puts them in the weapons closet.)

OldMan searches the Ruffians looking  for keys to the shackles and locks.  "Galben perhaps let's take care of the prisoners first.  And perhaps they could use a sword to defend themselves on their way out of the caves.  I'm looking for keys but why doesn't someone talk to them and find out what they know."

"I don't want these weapons out here and we don't even know who they are or what could be behind us."

Jake walks up to the cell holding the women.  "Why are you here?  Why are they holding you?  Are you injured?"  Jake looks at them to see if they have wounds, or if there is anything he can do medically. (medicine check, 15). 

Once he is satisfied they are not grievously injured, he turns his attention to the boy.  "Lad, are you hurt? is there anything I can do to help you?"

(Bearkiller walks into the room and checkes for traps. (Natural 1)

"Look, walls and bars!"

As Jake approaches, the older of the two women rises to her feet. "My name is Mirna Dendrar and these are my two teenage children, my son Nars and my daughter Nilsa. A few days ago, the Redbrands murdered my husband, Thel, and abducted us from our home in Phandalin. We overhead that the Ruffians had intended to sell us into slavery. We haven't been harmed though these past several days have been very trying. *Mirna continues sheepishly* While I don't have much in terms of a reward were you to rescue us from this place, I might know where a valuable heirloom is hidden. When I was a young girl, my family fled from the town of Thundertree after undead overran the place. My family had an herb and alchemy shop, inside which a case containing an emerald necklace was hidden beneath a section of storage shelves. I have never dared to return and retrieve it. The shop was in the southeast part of Thundertree. If your travels lead you that way, the necklace could certainly be yours were you to find it."

OldMan does not find any keys on the guards.

Also, each party member gets 36 XP for defeating the ruffians in the slave pens.
