Koric looks up distractedly. "What? Oh. I don't know. I can't read them..." he says with the flicker of a smile. "...but the magic is of the kind that is used to protect or warn. Or in extreme cases, cause damage." Waving his hand vaguely in the direction of the door he adds, "It's possibly just some kind of alam, but it may also explode for all I know. Best to keep away from it for the moment."
(( @DM: Has Koric seen these runes in other spells before? Arcana: 28 -- Aaargh. Should have used the log!: That used to be 23!))
Your spell reveals this runes to be written in Primordial. Though there seem to be runes all over the far wall of the room, now that you can read them, they all contain the same words "Let no foe pass unnoticed under the Stormlord's watchful eyes". The words are repeated in every single rune, as if whatever has been placed here could have been far far simpler. It dawns on you that the mass of runes may be serving more to frighten than to really do anything, though those words entail that there is indeed a spell of some type inlaid here
As he examines the runes Koric nods, "It's ... a warning I think. Suggests the Stormlord will know if anyone passes the doorway. Seems a bit heavy-handed to me..."
With that, he loses interest and turns back to examine the books and scrolls.
You turn to look at the books and scrolls, but there's enough of a mess here that you'd have to focus in on one or the other. Give me an investigation check for whichever one you'd like to examine
You sift through the scrolls, and there does not seem to be much in here. All that you find is a couple loose scrolls that seem to be more religious texts among a mass of empty parchment. However, as you sift through, something in the back here that catches your eye, and you pull it out 3 scrolls that are glowing a faint blue and all have the spell Alarm inscribed on them
(( @DM: I assume that the alarm scrolls were among (or all of) the magical ones that he already separated out; anything of use in the non-magical scrolls? ))
(The alarm scrolls were all of the magical ones you found, nothing that seems all that relevant to you among the other scrolls. They're all just a random assortment of religous texts making reference to Talos and some scrolls with nothing written on them)

(( I am assuming this takes a while, so others may want to do other stuff! ))
When he finishes with the scrolls, Koric looks around a little self-consciouslyat his companions "Can always use more blank scrolls, eh?" he says as he stores the ones with spells on them -- and the blank ones -- in his backpack.
When he is done he starts methodically investigating the books.
Elandra starts to look around the room, looking for ways that might lead down to the chamber below, secret or otherwise. As she makes her check for anything that might be disguised lever or latch she calls through to Effigy "Does anything in the stonework suggest there are secret passageways or hidden chambers?"
She remembers that the room which led them to Ebondeath hadn't been all that dissimilar to this layout, a simple room with the 'treasure' hidden upstairs. "If there is no other way down, then I guess we only have one choice..."She motions towards the stairs down, their other options on this exhausted.
The far wall (the one covered in runes) has a door on it that appears to be locked from the other side, and the left wall of the room has a large opening leading to some stairs leading down
Elandra makes her way towards the stairs down, looking down them and taking care not to step into the stairwell. Aware of the magical runes so close, she summons a magical hand, it wears a fingerless glove bedecked with musical notations. She sends the hand forth, having it slide across the centre of the floor as it moves down the stairs.
The books do not yeild much, aside from what you've seen. The religious texts are more of the same, and though the book about eels certainly stands out to you, and as you flip through it, it's mostly just facts about the life cycles of various eel species, though there's a few things in here about how to capture or contain an eel
@Elandra
You walk towards the stairs, and can quickly see that it leads into a small chamber with a stone wall on the far side of it that seems tobe an entirely different matierial than the rest of the walls of the chamber. As you magically check for any sorts of traps or other hazards, wary of the runes you've seen nearby, you run a magical hand across the surface of the floor. No traps or any other hazards seems to emerge, though you do see the hand dip down a bit right after the end of the stairs, suggesting an indent in the ground there
Elandra calls back to Koric and the others. "A small room down this way, Effigy, the stonework may be of interest to you. Though it looks like there is something a shade janky along the way... Be ready if somethign goes wrong."
With that, Elandra moves forwards down the stairwell, not as careful with her steps as she is with spying out potential dangers, and trying to garner anything that might hint to the purpose of the indentation. She approaches the section of ground, but does not step onto it until she has had a closer look.
(( DM, is there a light source in here? I'm guessing so, as we can see the books and such. Where is the light coming from, and is the room down the stairs similarly lit? ))
You wander a bit hapzardly down the stairs, though you stop just in time to see an small indent in the ground, where the floor seems to sink a few inches lower than the rest. Though you try to get a good look at it, you can't quite determine what exactly this might be, though it doesn't appear to be immediately dangerous
@Liri
There is indeed light here, though there do not seem to be any visible flames and the light is a bit dim. Instead, as you take a look up at the cieling, you see that a few of the bricks that make up the roof of this place are emmiting a sort of bioluminescent glow. The room down the stairs is similarly lit, though seems to be a bit dimmer than up here, perhaps just because it has fewer of the glowing bricks
Elandra takes a piece of chalk out of her pouch, drawing a mark on the floor in front of the indent so that it is more easily visible. Then she takes a dancer's leap, springing forwards over the indent to land well clear of the other side, hoping that she was right about it not being dangerous, and that it wasn't a trap waiting for something more corporeal than her magical hand had been. As she lands she winces slightly, waiting a moment for something bad to happen...
(Assuming nothing bad happens...) She looks around and breathes a slight sigh of relief, taking in the new room and calling back to her allies, relaying what she sees and the oddity of the floor. She sends her magical hand forwards to whatever seems to be the most interesting feature of the room to investigate it.
Liri casts Produce Flame, a flickering fire appearing in the palm of her hand. Keeping hold of it for now for some extra light, she makes her way down into the room below, avoiding the chalk-marked outline. She looks around the room to see if there is anything of note down here.
After marking it out so it is clearly visible to others, and you jump over the indent in the floor, bracing yourself for some sort of surprise, but nothing seems to happen
Luck check: 1
You send your magical hand to examine the far wall of the room, though it comes up with nothing, the stone seemingly perfectly smooth
@Liri, you join in the room and immediately begin to whip up a small flame. You are able to get a small one to form in your hand, but it seems to be just clearly hanging on to life here, the force of this location bearing down on it. Clearly, summoning a flame here in the Plane of Water is a bit harder than it is out in the Material Plane. As you cast it, the air in the room almost seems to jolt away from you, eminating a slight breeze, as if repulsed by the merge precense of the flame. Still, you keep it lit enough to get a closer look at this room. Make a perception check with advantage
