Gos, Olivia To Gos, “Ah, where’d you come from? Sorry, I didn’t see you. Ah, well I suppose your one of our other escorts. I trust you’ve overheard everything? You can fish on your own time. We’ll won’t be far from the stream and I believe it to be rich in blue eyed trout if that’s your thing.” Looking at Olivia, “Same to you. You may hunt if you choose. Just after we’ve made camp, though I suppose if any bears were to attack us we won’t let it go to waste. What’s wrong with what we have anyways? We’ve brought plenty and we’d be carrying it all so as to keep you light on your feet?” The other dwarves begin to eye you curiously. You suspect their canned goat meat is a matter of pride for them.
C0ND-T0R and Olivia Brottor shakes his head and says, “No no. No horses. No wagons. The journey will steep and largely unknown. We need to move a bit freer than horses and wagons may allow. And besides, this terrain isn’t very accommodating to anything but goats, bears, and us. Plus, there will be points where we’ll most likely have to climb. Establishing a freight line is the ultimate goal should the fruitfulness of the mine pan out. One of our fellow surveyors had found an abundance of silver in the stream we’ll be following some time ago. We’ve a good idea of where’d the best place for a mine’ll be.”
Ardyn The barkeep looks at you surprised and happily takes your gold. “I had you pinned all wrong. I didn’t see you as the type with money to spare. I heard this journey of yours pays quite well. Please come back and see me anytime. I’ll make sure to save a bottle of the good stuff for you.” He give a wink and says, “Names Gilt by the way.”
Lord Orgosh At the mentioning of the war college, Brottor begins to eye you more closely. “Ah. I thought I recognized that name. Yes the Orgosh War College. Not to far from our mountains am I right? Used to be quite the academy I believe. Though…that was a different time. What brings someone of such noble heritage this far north on such a…pedestrian…adventure?”
Gos gives a shrug to the dwarf. "I get that a lot, not the first, won't be the last." She sees the big ol' gun Conductor pulled out and nods in respect. "Quite a thing, but seems a tad overkill at the moment. How exactly do you carry all the shot and powder for that thing? Usually see something that size mounted as a swivel gun on the bow of a ship."
C0ND-T0R pulls from underneath the cannon and setting it down as the cannon gets up on it’s mechanical legs. ”Well, that is the beauty of it, I enhanced it magically so I don’t need to for it or for my pistol.” WC0ND-T0R reveals a small flintlock (a hand crossbow flavored as a gun). “If you are going on the expidition and we have time I might be able to do the same for your musket there. I unfortunally cannot have my focus on too many things.”
"more food for us i suppose" Erskine says to the dwarves with a wink. He turns to Olivia and C0ND-T0R and says with a laugh, "Don't you worry, I know these parts and I can get yer both through these hills"
Erskine looks to see how enthusiastic the dwarves are about this journey
(I want to do an isnight check, do I ask for that or do you call for it if the situation necessitates it?)
Lord Orgosh gives Brottor a courteous smile. "Yes indeed, and my family has long held deep and fruitful relations with our Dwarven neighbors. As to my desire to join this expedition, it seems the days of daring are all but lost. I wish to rekindle the spirit of adventure, and bring honor to the legendary exploits of my forbearers. Now... you're certain a well-trained horse cannot make the journey?!"
Lord Orgosh At that, Brottor shrugs and says, “Up until when we need to climb, I’m sure a horse could make it just fine. But we’ll not be paying for a horse that’ll just be abandoned at the foot of a mountain.”
Erskine For rolls, if there’s something you want to do, just go for it. I’ll let you know afterwards if the roll was warranted or not. Worst case scenario we just ignore it or slightly modify it if I think it should be a different skill. Otherwise, I’ll ask folk to make a roll.
Erskine and Olivia To Erskine’s comment, the dwarves all shout, “Here here!” and eye Oliva
Everyone, With Erskine joining in, Brottor says to the group, “Ah. Now that we’re all here. I’ll be turning in for bed soon. If there’s anything you want to do before we leave, let us know now. I’ll hang around a bit longer in case you’ve any more questions, but the rest of the team will be getting some shut eye now.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Looking around, Erskine is looking at the general demeanor of the Dwarves. Does this seem like bravado? Are they apprehensive about the journey at all?
Dumfounded, Lord Orgosh bids the Dwarves goodnight with the promise of meeting them back at the hotel at first light. He then travels to the nearby garrison to petition his warhorse and equipment be secured there, for safekeeping. He name drops as many nobles as he knows in town to ensure he is not refused, and of course, offers ten gold for any inconvenience. The horses have over two weeks of feed already with them, and will only require grooming two days a week. (Assuming this can be arranged) He then says a long goodbye to his beloved warhorse Ferran, and a passing goodbye to the pack horse whose name he had long forgotten. He then returns to the noble home in which he is a guest, bringing a gift of fine wine with him, and enjoys late supper and company with them. The next morning he is at the hotel ready to go at first light.
Erskine You're not used to the company of dwarves so it's hard to get a read for their emotions. But one thing you're certain of, they do not look overly emotive either way.
Lord Orgosh You're able to find the nearby garrison where a young goliath woman enthusiastically meets you. Excited as they don't get many horses of such breed, She takes the horse in for free for a chance to spend time with such a creature. She refuses pay, but takes you gold to be used only for food and supplies to keep your horse as happy and healthy as can be.
Everyone If there's no other questions or such, we'll proceed on with the next day. Though feel free to add anything you may have wanted to do before morning. First light comes early this far north, but this is the last few weeks of Autumn. Next is the shoulder season and month of Hibernal where daylight will grow increasingly scarce. Whoever is first to come down, finds the dwarven team already up and ready. They're going over their packs and maps one last time. (Dwarves here are known for their bureaucratic thoroughness) "Ah you're awake." Says Brottor. "We've breakfast for you all here. Covered by the expedition. Eat up cause here on out it'll be canned goat or whatever you bring or can catch." Breakfast is typical Skallbrekkan fare. Grilled salted fish, hard wheat bread, soft goat cheese, and strong coffee.
Once you all leave, what is the order you'll be marching in. Who goes first, who goes last?
C0ND-T0R is the first to be up, as he doesn’t need sleep. He waits patiently for the others. “Good morning my fellows. I hope our expidetion will be fruitful.”
Unless someone else wants to go first, Conductor will take the lead.
Erskine is up early in anticipation of the journey and eats a hearty breakfast, trying to reserve as much energy for the trip as possible. He greets C0ND-T0R and says "Mornin', glad you're in a good mood, we'll need that energy out there."
Upon setting out, Erskine will politely request to lead the way, as he most likely has more experience in these parts that the rest of the group. "But I'd 'ppreciate you watching me back, C0ND-T0R"
Gos shows up, grumbling a bit to herself, but seems to actually be pretty decent as far as waking up goes. She does seem to perk up a bit more once she gets her first mug of coffee and some food. After stepping outside and smoking a cigarette, she goes over to speak with C0ND-T0R. "So, how exactly do you just magically make a weapon better?"
Ardyn walks into the room stifling a yawn, , “I shouldn’t have stayed up half the night” he muttered. He would be fine following whoever takes the lead,
Conductor seems to have a spark in his eyes when asked about how he infuses magic into an item. "That is a mighty good question, you see I tinker a bit with magic and weaponry to enhance them. The process is not an easy one as you need to know the fundamentals of magic and then on top of that you need to know how it can affect an item. I use magic from magic items to fuel the ones that I've infused, but I also have to focus on the item to make sure it sticks, if I try do too many items the magic gets too thinned out and the magic from the old disappears. So far I've been able to keep the cannon, the flintlock and my armour to have magical properties that do any real effect, but I can also tinker and make some minor effects. I figure you may already know how to craft a gun, so I won't go into details about that but the fundamentals of magic are nessicary to learn how to infuse the items with magic. FIrst you got your main elements, frost, fire, poison, acid, lightning, but you also have your secondary elements such as thunder, psychic, force, radiant, necrotic, and you also have your physical elements bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing. To draw the elements one should have a component pouch, a folci, or in my case a tool that I use to create objects with. I got a multipurpose tool that I use to tinker some items to create various magical effects. Like for instance, I have a small flying gadget that I can use to talk to people from a distance like the spell message. Anyways I am getting off track, magic focuses on the elements and folks like me use the elements to our advantage to boost our equipment or other's equipment. Once you got the fundamentals of magic down and know how to use it to your advantage then you can create small items, and eventually able to make larger items." Conductor continues to talk about the fundamentals of magic and how to infuse items, very eager to tell.
Lord Orgosh, replete with traveling pack, weapons and gear, arrives bright-eyed at the hotel at sunrise. As he sees the readied meal he says, "Ah, Brottor, you and your fellows are industrious! A true credit to your race!" Then proceeds to partake heartily of the morning meal offered.
Everyone After what is probably the last prepared meal you'll be having for some time, Brottor leads you and the dwarves out the hotel and down the northern road into the heart of the Stolsheim mountains. The journey at first is quick and easy as your following the road, but as you reach the stream in question, the one you'll be following, the pace slows a bit as you head into the wilderness and further and further upwards towards the mountains. The terrain is rocky and devoid of trees, but filled with shrubs and moss. Mountain berries grow in great quantities along your path. Plentiful enough for easy gathering, though not as substantive for fueling such an arduous journey. Those who have been hunting and fishing have found game. This stream is indeed plentiful and there is wild hare that easy enough to catch for a patient and experienced hunter. A week passes, half way though your trip, and you arrive at a cliff face. Just under 100 feet tall. The stream you've been following cascading over it in a modest, but beautiful waterfall. It's not a straight sheer cliff. There's some tiered sections to it and some inclination in your favor, but use of ropes will be required and there are sections that are completely vertical. Brottor says to the entire expedition team, "Alright everyone. We make camp here for the night."He looks over at two dwarves, "Gimult and Sannl, start making your way up and set up the route. Anchors and rope." Looking back at all of you, "This is as far as anyone has gone. Well excluding goliath folk like you, Erskine. But for us dwarves and foreigners to this land, it is all new and largely unmapped. It's here that I would like you all to be especially watchful. The higher we head up these mountains, the riskier it'll be. So lets eat some goat and cook what game you've caught. I'll get the fire going."
When the expedition stopped to make camp, Ardyn sets his backpack down then takes out a single package of rations opening it. It wasn’t much just some jerky, dried fruit, and hardtack, but he wouldn’t have to eat the canned goat meat at least for while at least. I’ll take first watch tonight unless someone else wants to.” He said before taking a bite of hardtack.
