((@Dead, you've heard of people dying from cursed items but no one you know personally has gotten more than a little bit turned to stone from a cursed item.))
Jaq fiddles half-heartedly with the lock and doesn't manage to get it open. Kroshav takes a more direct approach and slams it with his shoulder and the wood of the door splinters and gives way. Before the door can open more than a few inches there is a bright flash in the room followed by an unpleasantly loud boom which is in turn accompanied by the door blowing outwards with concussive energy.
Thunder damage: 10
((Who all would have been within 10 ft of the door? Kroshav, yes. Probably Jaq and Joe? Where would Cladmir and Lurn have been? To see into the room after the door was open would have required you to be that close.))
((Edit: Con saves from those within 10ft of the door!))
As the dust settles and with everyone's ears ringing they can see into the room. A few papers still float through the air from a desk that looks to have been blown back by the sound wave. A second desk looks to have slammed into the east wall and everything on top of it piled together in a jumble. Two small chests, which may have been under the desks, are in the middle of the room, one rocking on its top, between a pair of beds. The beds look plain but better than sleeping on the floor, and near each are a couple of dark robes hanging from hooks in the wall.
Within the jumbled pile of items on the desk Joe sees her spellbook, Lurn sees his helmet and Jaq sees his little anti-magic box. They, and the pieces of paper near and under them, are rapidly being covered in ink from a tipped over inkwell.
((@Cladmir, you didn't pick up Joe's deception nor whatever is going on in the group. Things are confusing for someone that just got released.))
((Ah crap, ya there is that. Con saves for everyone that is up close to the door for half damage. Editing above...))
<It was trapped? Was that what the noise was? I'm sorry! I didn't see anything in there except the beds and desks. Oh and the boxes. The boxes are full of papers and clothes mostly. Does that help? They have some of those metal things all of you had before and one has some rocks in it.>
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kroshav weathers the sound blast relatively well despite being at its epicenter but his head is still buzzing too much to process what Sword is saying beyond the actual words.
Jaq manages to hunker down and get his hands over his ears in time to block some of the damage.
((5 damage to both Kroshav and Jaq))
Jaq then gathers what is his, wiping the ink off the box on a robe before dropping it into his bag. He tips one over to check it for taps and doesn't see anything so, taking care, moves the box away from the others and opens it. Unlike the door it takes only a moment though once Jaq lifts the lid a voice booms in elven,
"THIEF"
Which doesn't help his already hurting ears and head. The chest contains an assortment of clothing (all black), letters, a couple of thick books (two about magic and one a bit more lurid) and a pouch with 37 gold and 19 silver worth of coins and 4 small gems (10 gp a piece).
Joe jumps at the sudden noise, knowing that there will be more elves coming soon. Joe will quickly use presigitation to clean off the ink, hoping to see if the papers had anything important on them after getting her stuff, She goes to grab her spellbook and looks around to see if her other magical items and gems are in this room, as she’s still missing a lot of her things. investigation: 7 If she has help: 7
Joe was distracted by the sudden noise from the chest. Her interest is shown when she sees Jaq pull out the books. Joe goes to Jaq and asks "Can Ah see the books?" If given permission Joe looks at the books, eyes gleaming at the magic books. She then has a mischievous grin when she sees the lurid book. "Hey Kroshav, uh lookin' at this here book got meh thinkin', wha' would happen if Ah or someone else want'd some private time? Like no offense but tha sword talks ta ya mentally n Ah really wouldn'a want her o you to know of 'activities'. How far away would one have ta be ta get some private time?"
Deception: 18
Joe is mostly looking for information, not for private time. She's also trying to mess with the sword a bit.
(are those spellbooks? :o Edit: it would be funny if out of all the books the spellbook was the lewd one.)
(( Unfortunately while Cladmir would have positioned himself away from the door for this very scenario he would still be in position to see what is inside. ))
Cons: 23
Cladmir tried to shake his head after the blast but only found that it only made his headache worse, but then moved into the room with everyone else. Upon entering he spotted what appears to be piles of valuable items but decided to hang back since these items may belong to his new comrades. Briefly he considered investigating the robes and beds but his old instinct kicked in, and he started to scan the room just in case there were some items no one seemed to care about lying around.
Perception: 7
Suddenly Cladmir heard a booming sound. Not comprehending what it said he looked at the party to see how they react.
Insight: 3
EDIT: Man my guys is really suffering from concussion. XD
"Darkest gods," Jaq spits out when the trap goes off. "Sorry, I don't think I have enough skill yet to ever find magic traps like this. Lurn, can you close the door we came in, just in case we make more noise?"
Answering Joe, he just nods and hands her all the books. He shoves the coin purse in his bag and stated, "We'll share this out when we are somewhere safe."
He then asks, "Do we have time for me to try the other chest? How about the next door? Or do you all think we better move on?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
With his head still spinning and not quite following what is going on Cladmir did his best to be far away from the opened door and the door that Joe and Jaq are working on. Quickly he looked back at the area around the door that blasted him to see if there are any useful clues.
Perception: 8

((For finding a trap probably yes, but I don't know how Joe could assist Jaq in the lockpicking? What were you envisioning Dead?
@Dog, still waiting on Lurn's con save))
Joe and takes the full brunt of the blast (-10 hp) while Cladmir weathers it well (-5 hp).
Joe rushes in and grabs her spellbook and cleans it along with some of the papers that remained on the desk. A quick glance through the papers shows them to be in Elven and indecipherable to her. The books from the chest, that presumably Jaq told her said were about magic, are also in Elven and don't appear to be spellbooks.
((Give me an arcana roll to see if you can figure out the general contents from the pictures and diagrams in them.))
She then spends the next couple of minutes looking around for treasure under the bedding and in the pockets of the robes but comes up with nothing. Room's pretty spartan.
Cladmir just watches blankly as the party reacts with mild annoyance to the explosion but decides that Jaq didn't seem too worried by the voice yelling whatever it yelled as he rummages around in the chest. While intending to search the room he instead finds he can't help but watch Joe. The little woman has, since entering the room, darted manically around grabbing things, rooting around and talking to Kroshav about praying and a sword. For his part Kroshav mostly just stands in the middle of the room watching Joe with a quizzical expression.
Hanging back with Lurn and the pale dwarf Cladmir inspects the door. It mostly signs of recent damage but he does notice there is one spot the size of his palm at about neck height in the middle of the door that doesn't show the same types of damage. But looking at it closer he doesn't see any reason why that spot would have been spared damage.
One of the books seems to be about different spell components and likely where to find them/prepare them. The other book is probably some sort of treatise on the applications of magic or some sort of deep assessment on magic given the symbols of all the schools of magic at the start of each section and the different hand writing for each section. Maybe interesting? The notes are just words so she'll have to have Lurn or Jaq help translate.
((For @Cladmir as well, I'm onboard with helping to get advantage where it makes sense but going all the way back to the homebrewy rule I put out, what three years ago(?), you need to describe how you're helping and, if it isn't obvious, how it makes the task easier. General tips on lock picking are probably not helpful to someone proficient in picking locks but cleaning the locking mechanism with prestidigation is!
"I'm not sure," replied Cladmir absentmindedly, his head still feeling like it was nursing a massive hangover w/o the preceding benefits. "But look there," continued Cladmir as he pointed to the undamaged spot. "See the lack of damage there? It feels important but I can't quite put my finger on it."

He will then take a look at the chests. Checking for traps first then seeing if they are locked.
