Petros takes his grappling hook and fifty feet of rope out of his backpack. He ties the grappling hook to the end of the rope and holds the other end. He then drops the grappling hook into the water, letting it act as an anchor to the rope to measure how deep the water is.
(Too see how nimbly you lowered the grappling hook into the water...)
You lower the grapple hook and hit the bottom fairly soon, giving you a depth reading of around 10 feet. However, as you go to pull the rope back it catches on something, a moment later you all see a disturbance in the water, right before two giant frogs emerge from the pool and leap onto the ground next to you. However, they seem to be taking a moment to look at you, as if trying to figure out who you are...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bones puts up his hands plaintively, neither approaching nor backing away from the giant frogs. "Heya there boys... we're not trouble, and we're certainly not flies. Maybe... just let us pass?" (( Animal Handling check = 10 ))
One of the frogs blinks for a moment and then slips back into the water. However, the other frog doesn't take kindly to this and moves closer to defend its turf. Unfortunately as well, the sound of the frog croaking in readiness to attack, attracts the attention of a few bandits that were just down past the pool a short ways!
(Please roll initiative and your first action! There are 3 bandits coming)
You can see just on the other side of the pool now, there is a long wooden beam, about 25ft in length, leaning against the west wall of the cave.
(the curse of darkvision! :) )
(@gnomes on the map (post #138), are we entering at the very top? what does the pond look like? shallow? does it seem like we can just wade through?)
Yes at the top. And it's too hard to tell, the pond is dark and murky and even with help of illumination it's difficult to tell how deep it might be.

Cade watches Petros approvingly. “Aye, that’ll do.”
(Petros make a Dexterity check for me please)

Cade steps in fronr of his companions, ready for a fight. But he doesn’t draw his sword, instead he waits to see if the frogs are actually hostile.
(( Forest Gnomes can communicate with small or smaller animals, do these qualify? ))
(No, but you're welcome to try an animal handling check!)
Gellwin will assist with the Animalistics. ( Help)
