The woods and meadows that half-eladrin father Elias had tended his entire life, that his river elven mother Tara'ele's clan called home and defended with their lives. And their deaths. The land and the plants and the creatures, who Soren loved best of all. All gone. The ashes drifted down like warm summer snow.
Soren had run when the long dormant volcano had exploded sideways in a devastating cataclysm of fire and cinder. He had never been the strongest, nor the most warlike. And how could one fight a burning mountain anyway? He had tended to the beasts and the woodland spirits, shepherding and befriending them as his father had.
And now he was alone. Bereft of his family and his flock, on the run in a brutal world. One day he would find a true forest home once more. But, muses Soren grimly, that day is not today.
Resting in a roadside tavern you overhear a merchant recounting his troubles on the road.
We were traveling the old trade road up near the Blind Hills when we found it: an overturned wagon in the ditch. Evas took to the shadows, scouted ahead, and returned with strange details. The wagon had been transformed—such that it appeared to be a fierce fortress. Signs of goblin-work were apparent: broken shields reinforcing the walls, crude arrow slits cut into the driver’s bench, a makeshift flag hanging limply atop the whole affair. We left it alone, but even at a distance the smell of the odd fortress’s unfinished moat made us wretch . .
Soren Thornpaw looks up from where he had been petting the old dog lounging by the tavern's fireplace. A slim man with clear, but not complete, elven features, he seems skittish. Almost like an animal himself, and not necessarily an aggressive one. One that finds itself outside its own territory and is perpetually on guard. Yet his dark brown eyes are serene. He brushes back his shoulder-length dark hair from his face as he regards he merchant.
"How far up the road is this... wagon turned goblin fortress?" he asks, innocently enough.
So I can avoid it, Soren thinks.
Or explore it, perhaps? Do I really have a death wish after everything that's happened? And yet...
He looks around the room to see if others have overheard the merchant's tale as he has.
"Oi, I'd like to hear that answer myself. Was plannin' on heading that way tomorrow. Be nice to be able to avoid trouble if at all possible." a small voice says seemingly from nowhere. After a moment of looking for the origin of the voice the source shows its face. A small armor clad Gnome about 3ft high steps out from the obscurity of the end of the bar. "Got a delivery up that way. Someone should probably go take a look at it." says Brix.
Thredash, remaining seated, looks around the room and declares - Be more than happy to mosey on over and have a look see on the morrow. Anyone care to join?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Flip??? no... Garmuk wrestle.
Grarmuk will stop over to Thredash. Pulling up a chair Garmuk will stand on it to look into thredash eyes. All the while flexing and tring to look big.
Intimidation: 3
You be boss. Boss need think, Garmuk no think, Garmuk fight. We still wrestle.... Later.... no want brake tavern.
Ursa (Honey colored Bearfolk) stands up from reading a book, puts it down and walks over to the two of them. "That sounds like a great idea. May I join in. We can check out what mischief the goblins are causing this time."

Backstory:
Burning. It was all burning.

A short half orc, standing at only 4'11", from the other side of the room stands up and says a bit too loudly.
You going kill Goblins... take their stuff? Garmuk likes, you Garmuk friend now, Garmuk go with.
Standing up, waaayyyy up, the monk rumbles out Yarrh, Garmik! Sounds good. Kill gobies, take stuff! Flip you to see who is boss?
