Vlart cautiously prods all the chairs before the party heads north then takes the eastern hall that curves to the south. Taking next eastern hallway, it opens up in to a well lit workshop.
Parked in alcoves in this otherwise empty room are two gnomish contraptions made of wood and brass. Each resembles a crab with a barrel for a shell, six articulated metal legs, and a pair of forward-facing pincer claws. A hatch on the top of one barrel is open to reveal an interior compartment equipped with a small, leather-padded seat surrounded by levers, pedals, and gears. The hatch on the southern most barrel crab is closed. The barrels do not look airtight. The floor is scattered with various tools like someone has been working here recently.
"We use these to move wine barrels and supplies around in the stockroom... when they are working." Says Vlart.
Enid inspects the north alcove first. The machine looks like its in running condition, although it would take time to learn how to operate it. Moving to the other machine in the southern alcove, you notice a pool of dark liquid underneath it. When you lean over to get a closer look at the puddle, one of the machine's claws suddenly moves and attempts cleave Enid in two. A large mouth filled with razor sharp teeth forms on the front of the barrel machine where there wasn't one just a second ago.

Alton goes first. He is just in front of the north barrel crab machine, 10ft away from Enid and 15ft away from the attacking barrel crab. Vlart is just behind Alton, just inside the entrance to the room.
Alton casts Shillelagh, his simple walking stick becoming suffused with magical energy. He then rushes forward and grabs Enid, trying to pull her away from the creature.

Multiple yellow eyes appear on the front of the barrel crab. It looks suprised something escaped from its graspgrasp for split second before it bares teeth again and claws at Enid a 2nd time.

Summoning courage that he didnt know he had, Vlart runs up behind Enid and reaches into one of his many over-alls pockets and pulls out a glass syringe with filled with a red fluid. "Enid this should help!" He jabs the syringe into Enids leg as she gets thrashed around by the creature's claw.
"Right. Table. Got it." Enid looks around the room. "Vlart, do you know anything else about this shapeshifter?"

The room explodes in colorful faerie fire, covering the table and all the chairs. No reaction from the table or chairs though.

Using Alton's help, Enid is just able to break free of the creature's grasp. Enid lands on her feet right in front of the creature.
Enid nods a “thanks” at Alton and draws her short sword and dagger, ready to attack.
