Most of Alton's wounds heal as he smashes his weapon into the mimics arm and completely shatters the claw holding onto Enid's ankle. Enid is now free and the creature's arm becomes a amorphous blob that the mimic sucks back into itself. Blood is pouring from many severe wounds on the mimic now. It starts attempting to transform into new shapes, but can't quite do it.

The mimic pushes its way through Enid and Alton's space with relative ease, knocking them aside. But it is slow, hampered by its injuires and end its turn just on the other side of Enid and Alton and between them and Vlart.
The bolt sinks it to the squishy flesh of the mimic as Vlart steps to the side in the north alcove and reloads his crossbow.
"I hit it! I finally hit it! Thank Gaerdal Ironhand!"
The mimic is still in melee range of both Enid and Alton, just on the other side than before. It is attempting to run for the door, but it was slow even before being severely injured.

Alton uses the distraction of the crossbow bolt to make his way back in front of the mimic, blocking its escape once again as he swings the Shillelagh.
Alton misses with his Shillelagh but causes enough distraction for Enid to land two deep stabs into whatever vital organs mimics have. The mimic collapses like a deflated balloon, convulsing forms from a table, to a wine barrel, to a door and back again before it finally stops moving as nothing but a grey puddle of flesh.
Vlart fires another bolt into the dead mass for good measure.
"I...I think we killed it" as he steps from the alcove.
Vlart pulls out a knife and a couple vials. "I'm betting this sticky stuff is going to have some nice alchemical properties. We also need to take some of it to show the king." He starts scraping and cutting some of the mimic flesh.
Vlart finishes with the mimic and leads you south through a room that has a large contraption that looks like 4 large mounted crossbows on a circular platform facing in 4 directions. It has a seat in the middle. "This is Facktorè's project. It works...sometimes." He leads you passed a room filled with wine barrels then to another room where two rock gnomes stand behind a stone wall with arrow slits. "Halt! By order of the king. None shall pass!" The voice sounds unsure of itself. Vlart steps up and tosses a piece of the mimic in front of them. "We killed the monster, Pog. You can stand down. We need to see the king"
Pog the gnome walks out from behind the arrow slits and pokes the mimic flesh with a spear. "So there was a shapeshifter? We all just thought the king was going crazy. He is in his chambers still." Pog motions for the party to head that way. Vlart leads you out of the east side of the tunnel system and across a narrow rope bridge suspended 20 ft above the stream. On the other side, you come to a room filled with two spinning clockwork turnstiles filled with massive blades. Vlart uses a simple spell to pull a lever on the other side of the room, turning the turnstiles off. "This trap is difficult for anything that dosent know magic." He then leads you to yet another workshop with various clockwork parts scattered all over. Two gnomes named Fibblestib and Dabbledob are hard at work and nod to you as you go by.
You finally make it to the kings chambers. Vlart knocks on the simple wooden door. (You noticed this place is not very ornate for a king.)
The same floating parchment with the image of Korboz suddenly pops into view.
Vlarts holds a piece of mimic for the King. "That is the creature? So you did it then?" "Yes, King, this is the shapeshifter. Its over."
The door suddenly flies open and king Korboz leaps to the group, hugging Enid and Alton. "Thankyou! Thankyou!" He says almost crying. "We are free. Come Gnerkla!" A female gnome dressed in a gown but still lined with pockets steps out. "Oh, we must give them something dear." She reaches in to a pocket and pulls out a brass amulet and a 1ft long copper pole.
Alton takes the hug uncomfortably and then the copper pole and tucks it into his pack for later inspection. "Alton Haywood, sir, apprentice druid from Jiggs. I heard there was some trouble here and thought I'd come lend a hand."
Alton rises shakily to his feet and casts Healing Word on himself.

Alton stretches out his arm, testing his wounded shoulder, then starts chewing on another wad of leaves pulled from a pouch at his side.
"Well then, what do we do now?"
Vlart pulls out a knife and a couple vials. "I'm betting this sticky stuff is going to have some nice alchemical properties. We also need to take some of it to show the king." He starts scraping and cutting some of the mimic flesh.
Enid wipes her face clean with a cloth. “Vlart, could we see the king now?”

"What are your names, heroes of Puddleborough?"
Alton takes the hug uncomfortably and then the copper pole and tucks it into his pack for later inspection. "Alton Haywood, sir, apprentice druid from Jiggs. I heard there was some trouble here and thought I'd come lend a hand."
Enid takes the amulet and holds it to her ear, momentarily mesmerized by the whirring noises.
“Thank you, this is intriguing. I am Enid Raoghnailt, from the Great Dale. I heard about your missing gnomes and thought I could help.”
"I call for a feast in honor of Alton, Enid, and Vlart! Mushroom bread and wine for everyone!"
Fibblestib and Dabbledob give a happy hoot and scramble off to the kitchen.
"You are welcome to stay with us as long as you want"
"Mushroom bread, now that sounds like something I'd like to try. Are we sure this is the only monster here though? When did it first arrive?"
