Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Hildigrim extinguishes and stows his torch. "Sir Barclay!" he calls, moving through the room. "Your basement has been exorcised." With a big grin, Hildigrim walks up to Jerub. "Sir Jerub, now that my mind has been cleared of its distractions, I would like to confer with you concerning our employer and his potential scheme. What do you know of Q? Do you understand his motives? Theoretically, if this orb does exist, and reading from the letter what he claims to intend to do with it, would you suggest we search for the artifact or abandon the task totallui?"
OOC: Those of you who know Elvish recognize the last word, but wince at Hildigrim's pronunciation.
Flow turns to the rest of the group, holding a relatively small leather case in one arm
"I think this might be Jerub's or one of his friends. It's strong crossbow bolts," he says.
He heads upstairs and shows the case and bolts to the (NPCs) group up there.
"Is this one of yours?"
Jerub eyes the crossbow bolt case with squinting eyes. "Those.... Might have ben Jeraldine's, but she is gone now. Kelemvor has weighed her spirit." Jerub pauses for a moment, "If you think they will help you, by all means take them."

Barclay says "GOOD!" quite loudly from the bar. You can hear him grumble under his breath, "as long as I don't have to board up that damned door again".
Jerub thinks for a moment then speaks. "Last I knew, Q was a high ranking member of a cult based in Undermountain, devoted to Dagon, Prince of the Depths. Dagon is a twisted demon covered in tentacles, born of the Spellsea in the abyss. I can only imagine Q plans to use the Putris Corrorptus to serve the demon's needs."
Jerub thinks for a moment, "I'm not sure that I would know how to destroy an artifact of such power, but I could direct you towards someone who can!"
Jerub rushes excitedly to his desk to grab one of his dusty tomes. Jerub grumbles to himself, "what was that Dwarf's name again?", as he flips through the handwritten book. After a few moments of flipping, Jerub says, "Ah HA! Bruldenthar! Bruldenthar Blackiron from Mirabar!" Jerub walks back across the room towards Hildi with the open book in his hand. He continues, "Bruldenthar is one of the most well studied sages in the land! If the man still lives he will only be wiser now than when I knew him!" Jerub sits down at a table in the common as he speaks. "Hmmm... If I remember correctly, the dwarf used to spend the winters in Mirabar, and the summers in Waterdeep!"
Jerub looks to the rest of the party, "I think it's only right that you find this evil artifact, seek out Bruldenthar, and then destroy it. If you do this thing, I will give you some items that may help you along the way. I have a few artifacts of my own!" Jerub says with clever smile!
While Jerub addresses the party Bran notices is a soft tap on his shoulder. He turns to see who is behind him. It's the small man from the cot on the far side of the room. Bran can now see that this man is also a gnome. This gnome's elven companion watches eagerly from afar, still perched on her cot.
Bran sizes up this gnome, and notices that his hands and face are extremely skinny, as if from malnutrition. He wears the robe and pauldrons of a guild mage, and a large broach shaped into a silver harp pins his cloak over his robes.
The man speaks gnomish in his squeaky voice as Bran turns to face him. "Excuse me?" The gnome looks a little worried. "Are.... are you from Waterdeep?" A glint of hope echoes through the gnome's question.

Bran smiles at the Gnome, and replies back in Gnomish, "Indeed I am good fellow. My name is Bran Highdimple." Bran studies the broach and pauldrons of the Gnome. "Might I be so forward as to ask about your origins? You appear to carry the trappings of one familiar with the Arcane Arts."
Hildigrim removes from his pack a piece of parchment, a quill and a bottle of ink. He carefully writes Bruldenthar Blackiron from Mirabar on the parchment. "Waterdeep is an expansive city," Hildi says to Jerub. "Might you know in which ward we might find him?" He then pauses as Jerub's words continue to resound in his mind. "''Winters is Mirabar'," he repeats. "He may well already be traveling north." His blank look again turns pleasant. "No matter. First things first: We still have to locate this orb."

"Thank you. I do believe they will be helpful."
He stows the case in his pack.
After litening to Jerub about Q and Bruldenthar, Flow smiles.
"This sounds like a good plan, to me!"he says, then turns towards his companions who are upstairs.

[DM] So sorry. My bad. It's actually the end if Winter and Spring is starting. I had it written it in reverse on the initial campaign post. I edited that post... So same thing, only Hildi thinks the sage will be heading South to Waterdeep soon.
Cool. Though, I thought maybe the journey to Mirabar was going to be our next adventure. :) OK, so does Jerub have any idea in which ward Bruldenthar might reside?
[DONOVAN AND BRAN] The gnome smiles weakly and says "Hello. My name is Donovan Van Krinkwhipple. That's my companion Nadi back there" -- Donovan points at the elf on the cots. She waves reluctantly.
Donovan continues, "I am indeed a wizard. I apprenticed under a great mage, Nerimus Naught, for two decades in the halls of the Neverwinter academy! It was he who inducted me into the Harpers". Donovan studies Bran's face for a moment. "Do you know of the Harper's?"
[JERUB AND PARTY] "No no, unfortunately I've never met the man in person. We used to keep a correspondence, sending letters by bird when I worked in the Magneshrine of Neverwinter, so I'm afraid I don't know his exact whereabouts". Jerub scratches his scruffy chin as he speaks, "Bruldenthar knows a great deal about many things! You might check with the Watchful Order of Magists & Protectors in Waterdeep. He was a speaker for the Order of Mystra there when were still writing to one another"
Jerub stands up from the table and starts heading back to his desk. "Now then, about those artifacts!" -- Jerub starts rifling through many drawers and foot locker's stowed around and beneath the desk.

"Well met Donovan." Bran looks to Nadi and says hello in Elvish (which he knows). "I too practice arcane magic. I attended the Eltorchul Academy in Waterdeep. It was there that I heard about the Harpers. Mind you, it was mostly just whispers and rumors among the students. Stories to tell at nighttime. Sometimes I would fall asleep to the thoughts of being a famous Harper, off saving the world, over throwing corrupt rulers, righting wrongs." Bran sighs and looks around. "And instead I'm trapped in the Shadowfell, duped by a doppelgänger, and no closer to paying off the rest of my school tuition."
"Well your dream may yet come true, good Bran, for I wish to ask a favor of you." Donovan pulls Bran off to the side. "If Jerub is okay with ye... Well you must be good folks. Nadi and I are in dire need of assistance. I overheard some little talk of a portal? If you would be willing to let us travel back to the other side with you, the Harpers would pay you handsomely." Donovan glances back at Nadi then back to Bran. "Nadi and I would appreciate it greatly and consider ourselves to be deeply indebted to you and your companions." Donovan pauses and looks at you longingly. "What say ye brother gnome?"
A twinkle of excitement appears in Bran's eyes. He's about agree, then remembers he's already been duped once in the last twenty-four hours. Bran studies Donovan and Nadi before speaking.

Donovan seems frail, weak and devoid of hope. His plea seems to be honest from what Bran can tell.
Shaking off the feel of skepticism, Bran says in Gnome "I'd be glad to help." Bran breaks off a piece of a ration from his bag and places it in Donovan's hands. "You look like you could use a little nourishment friend. It's not much, but it's something."

"That's... Okay", says Donovan holding his hands up to stop Bran. "We've plenty of food. I look like this because of the Shadowfell. It drains us Primey's over time. Jerub just looks normal because his god his looking out for him." Donovan looks down, embarrassed about not taking Bran's offer. "Thanks so much", he says sheepishly. "It's means the world to me and Nadi. I'll just go let her know and we'll begin packing our things. She will be thrilled to know she is going to see the forest again! We were beginning to fear we would never return".
Bran smiles. "As you may have heard, we have a few errands to run first while we're here. It might take us some time to complete. But rest assured, when the time comes to leave this foul place, you two will be at our sides"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Barrel slips on the ratty black cloak he took from the dead shadow and twirls it around, trying to see if he can make it snap when he gives it a little flourish. Satisfied that it might be workable he opens up his backpack and pulls out his disguise kit and begins going through its contents. He puts the kit back in his backpack and nods at Flow. "I'm with you. We might as well get this thing before someone can and do some real harm with it. I will follow where you go. Someone has to keep your spirits up."
"Let us rejoice my friends". Barrel says to the room as he walks around playing on his drums.
Barrel sighs with relief and reaches down and takes one of the cloaks.
"Could be useful." He mutters. " Anyone in need of healing? I think I have enough in me for one more."l
