Horatio finds a flight of stairs running up along the outside wall of the cottage, with another wooden door at the top of it. A rickety railing hugs the edge of the staircase, which looms above the foggy lake. A steady droning sound comes from a shadowed corner above the door at the top of the stairs.
”Hmm…Nothing related to pool piping, but maybe some information,” says Ben, holding up the letters to the light, reading anything legible on the outside or visible thorough the paper.

No dead animals are found within this trove of lesser goodies, with the possible exception of the old, frayed, coiled-up belts found in one of the compartments. The cupboard is the only piece of furniture within this dark, windowless room. You continue to hear energetic footsteps upon the creaky floorboards above the room.
Horatio can't quite see the source of the odd buzzing at the top of the rickety staircase hugging the side of the foggy cottage. There appears to be a door at the top, although it seems to be partially blocked by something.
Shrugging, Ben puts the letters back and says, “No dead animals. These items all seem to have some sentimental attachment for the ones who lost them. I wonder if Bavlorna feeds off that energy somehow…”
”Oh well, next door I suppose. Horatio, have you found anything?” asks Ben as he come back into the main room and sees another door open.

Staring upward, trying to discern the sound, Horatio shrugs, "A hatch going up. But, it appears barred." In a much lower tone he adds, "..and I think something or someone is right on top of it."
There was something else Horatio saw, also – hard to see because of the overhang of the second floor to the south – but he caught a glimpse of a bottom of a large iron cage hung outside the second floor. He couldn't see anything in it, however.
(red glowing walls indicate overhang of second floor.)
A door off the pool room remains unopened. A rickety exterior stairway leads up toward an upstairs doorway blocked by something emitting a strange drone, not far from where part of a large iron cage has been sighted. An acid-fouled well remains blocked by something Matilda fears is alive and possibly dangerous. A hag and her houseguest wait upstairs. A package remains undelivered. An upstairs remains unexplored. Mysterious footsteps can be heard prancing above the cabinet room. Lost things remain lost. And a cottage remains... unclimbed?
"Let's check the last door on this level before potentially going upstairs," suggests Ben, heading towards the last unopened door and cracking it open to peek through it. "If the mechanism for pumping the water up here is beyond our reach, we may need to go directly into the well and try to dislodge whatever is clogging it."

"Ok, but after that lets explore upstairs further," Titaani replies. "Maybe there's a hidden trove of treasures up there that Bavlorna isn't telling us about!" She bounces up and down excitedly. "I don't know about you guys but I can't wait to reclaim what I lost!"

Searching the room with an eye towards any sturdy thread/twine/rope, Ben comes out with whatever he can find as a possible aid for lowering something down in the well to fish out the ooze clogging it.

”Alright, let’s see what is up the stairs through your door Horatio—there is little but yarn and cloth in here,” says Ben.

Ben is overwhelmed by the diversity of materials in this little room. He finds two one-foot-tall pincushions sewn into humanoid shapes. (One of the pincushions is mounted on a tiny wooden rocking horse; the other has a pair of wooden wings.) While he finds nothing in the way of rope, Ben does find enough fabric, yarn, and thread to fashion a crude, makeshift rope of sorts, if he chooses to take the time to knot it all together.
Titaani isn't interested in rope or thread at all, and she joins Horatio, looking up at the hatch.
"Think we can force it open?" She asks. "I'm not very strong, but I can think of someone who is." She smirks, nodding in the direction of where she left Ben.

"Hey! I'm strong too!" Feeling the need to prove himself, Horatio ascends to the hatch and tests the weight of it for the resistance he fully expects. (( Can he sense if the thing on top would slide away if he pushes upward slowly? ))
Matilda examines the cabinet. It is locked and unlocked by rotating the circular panel so that the silver hourglass sigil inlaid on the panel is turned upside down or right-side-up. There doesn't seem to be any hidden panels or secret compartments in it - just a lot of mementos and trinkets.
Titaani and Horatio try to get a better look at the top of the exterior stairs. There seems to be a regular door up there, not a hatch, but it is partially covered by a huge mass so it's hard to tell.
Horatio begins to climb the stairway to get a better look. But suddenly the second and third steps from the bottom give way as the rotten wood snaps under his weight. Horatio: Make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or plunge 35 feet down into the lake
Matilda tries to remember what all her friends had lost and if any of this flotsam matched what they said...if not, she begins adding yet more stuff to her growing hoard of trinkets.

The middle door opens to the foggy outside air.

A rickety railing hugs the edge of the staircase, which looms above the foggy lake. A steady droning sound comes from a shadowed corner above the door at the top of the stairs.

Matilda walked up to the cabinet and reached out to turn the dial-thing....but stopped, in case the old folks objected.

Some have hand-drawn hearts and flowers. One is addressed to "Darling"; another to "My Love".
Titaani peaks her head into the room, covering her eyes as she does.
"There aren't any dead animals in here, right?" She asks, trying to be helpful but a little traumatised after opening the other door.
