Death Saves: Tiny: (wounded but up and treading water; holding Titaani and Helping with any stabilization attempts with her.) Matilda: √ X (unconscious) Ben: X√√(unconscious but stabilized) Horatio: (badly wounded but up and treading water; holding Ben and Matilda) Titaani: X√X(unconscious, on Tiny)
Top of the round:
Matilda must make another death save.
The figure in the boat approaches. It is Clapperclaw, the small scarecrow with a rattling gourd for a head and oversized crustacean claws for hands. "Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Are your heads still attached? Did she steal any of them?"
The little scarecrow drops the oar and grabs hold of Matilda. It effortlessly lifts her limp body into the boat.
The cottage above remains quiet. In the thick fog, you can see little but a few stilts and a shadowy silhouette above. A few strains of music play from the far side of the lake where the bullywug castle lies.
"Let's get out of here quickly, before she chases us on that lily pad she rides! I know a place we can go!" hisses Clapperclaw.
Horatio may act next. He is holding Ben (unconscious, stable) and is treading water with Tiny, who's supporting Titaani (who's unconscious and looking pale and grim. She is in danger of dying.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Clapperclaw pulls the limp form of Titaani onto the boat and, with Tiny's help (he also climbs into the boat), tries to save her: Clapperclaw Medicine check (Titaani): 10
Horatio may act next. (He can pull Matilda and himself into the boat and attempt to stabilize her with a DC10 Medicine check. No advantage, alas.)
Horatio lifts Matilda into the boat and immediately begins trying to bind her wounds. His motions are panic-stricken, and his hands shaky. (( medicine check = 13... whew!! ))
Once he is assured that all are in the boat and none are bleeding out any more, he takes the oars and helps row them all away... just away. "Clapperclaw, thank you. I can't tell you how bad that was, how close it was. Bavlorna... that thing, she almost swallowed Titaani whole. We need to go someplace safe to rest and heal. Do you know anywhere we can go?"
"Yes! Yes! Go that way!" it says, directing Horatio into the featureless fog.
Minutes pass, then an hour or more – it's so hard to tell time in this place where the sun never quite rises.
Marshy banks begin to form on either side. Then the little scarecrow begins to direct Horatio to make turns, seemingly at random, in this endless fogbound marsh. "Turn here!" hisses Clapperclaw. "Go through there!"
Finally, the dank mists part to reveal a primeval forest. A fragrant breeze wafts between the enormous trees, sending motes of pollen dancing into the air. Patches of sunlight kiss the forest floor, and the sweet melody of birdsong echoes all around. You are on a stream, barely wide and deep enough to hold your small boat. This doesn't feel like Hither anymore, but it still feels most definitely Fey. Horatio has an odd feeling that he hasn't experienced before – a sense that the thing he lost is somewhere in this vast forest.
"This is the place!" says Clapperclaw. "There's an old hermit who lives in the cave up this hill," – it points up a vague fern-fringed path toward a gentle upward slope. "He might be able to shelter you. I'll take the boat back and get the scent off your trail."
Clapperclaw helps Horatio lift the unconscious, waterlogged party onto the banks of the loamy stream bed before turning the boat around and pushing off.
The party is slowly coming to. The wounded members feel very weak, but strangely different now.

A mixture of fatigue, happiness, and depression cross Horatio's face. "Hi to you too Matilda." He replies wryly. He slumps back onto the banks of the narrow stream, allowing himself to rest while the others come to.
Groggily, Matilda pulls out the stuff from her pockets and examines it all.
The 12-inch-tall marionette has faces on opposite sides of its head. One face is a moon, and the other is a sun. As an art object, the marionette is probably worth some gold. The now-soggy ticket seems to be an unpunched admission ticket to the Witchlight Carnival. The ticket is signed by "Isolde". Now stuck to it with mud is the iron key that the awakened willow tree gave her as they left Telamy Hill. The three scrolls are tied together with a lute string. The writing upon it is magical – spell scrolls. With a short rest, she might be able to figure them out.
Looking up, she sees a poster nailed to a tree in the distance.
It's a weathered sheet of parchment nailed to the trunk of a tree. The poster consists of a portrait of a boy drawn in ink, above and below which are words in a script Matilda doesn't recognize.
Titaani eventually stirs awake, her big, gnomish eyes blinking tiredly before she jolts up in a panic. She checks her arms, her torso, and her face, seemingly trying to determine whether she is alive or not. Satisfied, she collapses back onto the ground.
"How am I still here?" she eventually asks, turning her face towards Horatio. "Did you save me? Thankyou!"
Tiny nudges Titaani and she smiles. "I don't know why, but I feel my connection to you is stronger than ever, Tiny."

Groggily stirring, Ben mumbles something about mutant ninja frogs for a few moments before hit sits up--a bit too rapidly, as it turns out--and promptly falls back into the loam of the shoreline, right on top of the small magic sword he never had the chance to draw in their last combat. "Clapperclaw brought us here... he said somebody in the cave would help us." Replies Horatio... he looks over Bavlorna's things. "No idea." His tone is stiff, distant, sad. His eyes are fixed in memories he cannot shake. "We... I... can't do that again. Everyone almost died. Even after we got to the water, I wouldn't have been able to save more than one of you from bleeding out or drowning. It was.." He thinks a moment. We came like children... but the children we were need to have died up in that shack. We need to grow up now... So we can kill monsters... So other some other children won't have too." Bloodied and bruised, he gives his companions a level stare.

Matilda woke slowly and grabbed hold of Horatios arm, " I want to go home.", she said, voice trembling.
After a few moments her vice like grip released from Horatio and a shy smile spread over her voice, " But look what I got!"
She unloaded everything from Bavlornas chest onto the floor, " There is another locked door in her room...I wasn't able to get it open."
A mixture of fatigue, happiness, and depression cross Horatio's face. "Hi to you too Matilda." He replies wryly. He slumps back onto the banks of the narrow stream, allowing himself to rest while the others come to.

Looking up, she sees a poster nailed to a tree in the distance.
Matilda gets unsteadily to her feet and lurches over towards the tree...
It's a weathered sheet of parchment nailed to the trunk of a tree. The poster consists of a portrait of a boy drawn in ink, above and below which are words in a script Matilda doesn't recognize.
Matilda studied the image to see if she recognised the boy.....she was still pretty wobbly.....
Investigation: 6
Matilda doesn't recognize the boy in the sketch, but it's hard to tell. He has a big head of curly hair.
From the tree, she has a clear view up the path. Cozy torchlight radiates from a cave in the wooded hillside above.
Titaani eventually stirs awake, her big, gnomish eyes blinking tiredly before she jolts up in a panic. She checks her arms, her torso, and her face, seemingly trying to determine whether she is alive or not. Satisfied, she collapses back onto the ground.

" Check for horns.....", Matilda quipped tiredly as she stumbled back towards the group.
" Theres a cave uphill from here, looks warm...and occupied."
" Anyone know what any of the stuff I took from Bavlorna does?"
