Pud nervously lays his hands upon the throne, and casts his spell. It is odd and alien magic, unique divination magic. Anyone who sits upon this throne for longer than a few seconds falls into a magical trance that lasts one hour. While in the trance, the affected person will be imbued with a fragment of the psyche of the throne-builder, experiencing dreams drawn from their memories. At the end of the hour, the affected person may or may not be infused with a small part of their psyche. Once the throne bestows its gift on a creature, the throne ceases to be magical for one year, during which time nothing happens when a creature sits on it.
Pud nervously touches the throne while casting identify, hoping to figure out what the heck is going on with Matilda. He sighs with relief once he realizes what they’re dealing with.
He turns to the group and smiles.
“Guys, I think she’s gonna be okay. This weird throne has some old magic from whoever…or whatever built it. It’s embued with memories and experiences of the builder and she’s kinda reliving those memories in a dream state .
If I’m right, Matilda is gonna wake up in an hour or so. Not much we can do but wait it out.”

With Matilda draped over Ben's warhorse, the party continues upward into the black mountains. The cold rain continues to fall. The clouds get blacker, the pass narrower and steeper. The wind plays and shifts unexpectedly, whistling a soft tune through the old stones. Amidor continues to confidently lead the way.
It is on a particularly steep, gravelly slope that Ben's horse loses its footing for a moment, and Matilda's limp form slides off its back before anyone can react. She falls head-first into a shallow ditch filled with cold rainwater, and awakens with a start.
Matilda sat up her eyes wide, " Ow! That was awesome........ok, scary.....but awesome!! There was a planet and I was old and the sky was all stretched and the stars...there are a lot of stars!! And the ground was like stone..but tar..but like still stone....and i could see through time...I think...it was amazing!!!! But really scary....I exploded."
Having done his best to keep Matilda safe and warm on horseback, Ben is abashed that he allowed her to fall, but happy she seems to be okay. "An hour further along our path to the swamp," he answers, "and hopefully a bit wiser about sitting in a throne that seems like just a chair..."

The party continues to push on, higher into the bleak, stormy mountains. The pass gets narrower – barely wide enough to allow Ben's horse to traverse it without scraping off both the rider's gear and his feet. The walls get higher and steeper, and it feels as though you are in a vertical crack in an endless mass of solid stone. The rain and wind are mostly blocked now, although the walls run with torrents of water, and a fog grows thicker. The dim light is almost entirely shut out, and you proceed in near darkness. The roar of the stormy winds continue unabated.
And then something gives - perhaps a rockslide high above you. An avalanche of water falls, drenching everyone, knocking you all off your feet. But the path has somehow been sealed below you, and the water is trapped, and rising. Everyone finds themselves swimming. There is a brightness above you, and thicker, pervasive fog. Water fills your space with increasing volume. But unlike the cold mountain rain, this is warm and swampy.
Before you're even able to react, you are floated clear out of the crevasse. Indeed, there is no crevasse, no path, no stone, no mountains. You are treading water in a stale swamp.
The fog is thick, the air warm, the water warm and scummy, and the swampy smell potent. Your visibility is limited to about 20 feet.
On one side of you, rising from a soggy island, is a sturdy wooden hut with a tall, conical, thatched roof.
On your other side, a big black balloon floats overhead, tugging at its moorings. Beneath it hangs a basket made of black wicker and wood. The balloon is not made of fabric, but rather appears to be a roiling, dark rain cloud that has been contained somehow with lines and netting. A large window of gray glass is drawn closed across an opening in the basket, with a sign mounted above it. You can't quite read it.
A wood-plank bridge connects the two.
A soft rain falls. You continue to tread swampy water. Welcome back to the splinter-realm of Hither.
Urging his warhorse to swim them to shore of the island, Ben makes looks around once they have made it to solid ground for anything that looks familiar.

After emotionally returning Matilda’s hug, Titaani stays glued to her side, unwilling to let anything happen to her again.
As the water drenches the little gnome, she lets out a shriek before she is lifted into the swamp. She begins to choke, and wildly grabs onto Ben’s horse.
“Ben! Please help me up!” She splutters. “I can’t swim!”

The domain feels familiar - you are back in Hither. Ben, Matilda, Pud, and Titaani all immediately feel the nagging sensation that the thing they lost is somewhere in this realm, though you don’t know where. As to where in Hither you have emerged, it definitely looks like Downfall, the bullywug settlement where Bavlorna lives, but you don't know this particular spot, nor any sense of direction.
Matilda squints at the sign over the window in the balloon's basket. It reads, “Wondrous Wares & Fair Fares!”
And her sharp eyes pick up a second sign in the fog, hanging below what appears to be a merchant's counter below the basket window.
"AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY: Very good thimble (fingertip not included) Mug of Bumble Beer (has a nice sting to it) Duskmallow pie (with decorative bite marks) Bundle of dry wood (great for starting fires) Ink portraits (if we have to look at you, so should you) Moonlight monocle (no more fumbling in the dark)"
“Thanks Ben,” Titaani says gratefully as she gets to the shore. Squeezing the water out of her hair sulkily, she goes to stand next to Matilda.
“If we have to look at you, so should you? How rude!” She protests, indignant. “That moonlight monocle sounds cool, though. Do you think it’s worth popping in there before we go after Bavlorna?”
