The guard looks uncertain, then waves Pud through, allowing him access to the balloon. "I'm following you up that ladder!"whispers invisible Morgort to Pud.
Ben feels around for the fly-shaped brass brooch in his pack, only to realize that Titaani gave it to the king a while back. (Correct me if I'm wrong!)
"The rest of you stay right here, 'nless you got a writ," adds the guard.
"Of course," replies Ben, making a show of taking care of the horse, getting all of them on solid ground while they wait. He tries to scrape off some of the muck from their aquatic travels as he waits. He makes conversation as he waits, saying to the nearest guard, "How fares Duke Ickrind? We were able to rescue him from the burning building recently, but we were all injured."

Pud pauses before heading up to the balloon and steps aside to give Morgort a free path. He motions the guard to lean down close to him.
He whispers to the guard "I'd mind your P's and Q's when speaking with Sir Pollywog Tadpole the Third." Pud looks back and motions towards Titaani with a nod of the head. "You see those purple spots? She's one of them poisonous bullywugs. She's not to be trifled with."
Pud turns and moves up to the balloon to inspect the craft. He reaches up to place his hands on the balloon and casts mending.

"I can cast an illusion, but if they want to touch it, the game will be up," Titaani whispers to the others. "Do we have any parchment or paper of some kind?"
Pud (followed by an invisible Morgort) climb the ladder, already occupied at the top by one bullywug worker, sewing a hole in the side of the huge balloon with an oversized needle.
"Cut the lines!" whispers Morgort to Pud as she leaps, invisibly, into the large wicker basket from the ladder. (DC10 Stealth check: 9 )
The worker with the needle at the top is confused, looking between Pud and the guards. "Who are you?" she croaks.
The guard with the crocodile walks it to the base of the ladder, and looks up at Pud with concerned interest.
The other guard continues chatting with Ben. "Duke Ickrind? Oh, bloated as ever. He was seriously burned in that fire. He was quite the hero that day, he tells us, even though the factory burned down. That traitor Morgort started the fire, together with that scoundrel Wigglewog."
"What was that?" cries the sewing worker with alarm as the basket rocks and the balloon vibrates with the impact of Morgort's jump. "Somebody said 'cut the lines'! The whole balloon shook!"
The guard with the crocodile barks at Pud. "Get back down!"
"Don't move," warns the first guard to the rest of you.

"Oh my goodness! Look! It's the interlopers! Over there!" Titaani points behind the guards, and if they turn around to look, she will cast sleep on them, the crocodile and the giant frogs, if possible.
Horatio cracks his knuckles noncommittally, almost casually. As he does he steps between the group and the guards. Though he moves calmly, there is clear menace in his unwavering gaze.
The nearby guard turns abruptly, raising his polearm. "Where? Where?" he cries, squinting into the fog. The other guard turns to look as well. The workers just look bewildered. Horatio's posturing goes completely unnoticed.
Meanwhile, one of the giant frogs near the base of the ladder keels over, fast asleep.
You see one of the four lines holding the balloon fall into the water, cut by an unseen hand aboard the balloon.
(The ladder is an inverted-V platform-style ladder, fairly tall.)
Pud takes advantage of the distractions and makes his move. He reaches into his potions pouch, digs out the elixir of flight and gulps it down. He then jumps off the platform and flutters over to one of the mooring ropes and attempts to cut one of the lines.

Pud takes to the air, slashing a second line. The balloon lurches upward and away from shore, now anchored only by two lines into the water. The ladder falls into the lake, dumping the worker who had been on it headfirst into the scummy lake.
Ben runs off, chasing after imaginary interlopers. It then feels a little more real as Morgort's head appears in the brush to the southwest.
One of the massive frogs leaps up at the balloon, barely missing Pud's foot before landing with a massive splash in the lake, upsetting a rowboat and nearly clobbering a spluttering guard trying to get their bearings after falling from the ladder.
One guard chases after Ben, and the other charges in that direction as well, the crocodile by its side. "Get 'er!"
Matilda judges the balloon just a little too high for her arcanely enhanced legs to reach (she can jump about nine feet up, but the balloon is now about 15 feet up, and now further from shore than it was a moment ago.
Charging the image of Margort, Ben takes a massive swing with his longsword, then points the sword to the southwest as the image fades. "She's too fast! I think she is getting away!" He stops to let his erstwhile bullywug allies flow past them should they continue the chase.
