A deep sigh, then Horatio puts his tools away. "Right... it was just a thought. Look, I'll fight to set things right, but I feel kind of like I did back at the carnival. Like I was the only one seeing what was right there in front of everyone. Or perhaps just the only one giving voice to it? Except this time it isn't that some unknown thing is horribly wrong... We passed severed heads on the way here. This lady already deposed a sitting monarch and conquered their entire realm. And nobody opposes her openly. Not here, not neighboring monarchs, nobody. If a Dragon landed in the middle of town square back home, certainly people would try to fight it. But they wouldn't be fighting to win... they'd be fighting to buy other people time to escape the horrible death that would otherwise follow... I'm just wondering, are we fighting to win? Because if we are, how are we going to beat this Dragon?"
Titaani starts to visibly shake at Horatio's speech, leaning against Tiny for support. "We're..we're not going to die, are we?"
She takes out the book she received from the king earlier, showing it to the others. "She killed all of these people..you're right...she's a monster...do you think we have a chance? Please tell me we have a chance!"

”I’m not really sure what we’ll find up there, Titaani, but let us hope for the best,” says Ben encouragingly. “If it all goes wrong, we work together to either kill the evil hag or escape—then we do Horatio’s plan; he with the wood, and me with the stone,” he adds, showing his masonry tools.
”I will go first and announce us, since I am apparently the herald now,” says Ben. Approaching the trapdoor, he lifts it open after looking to the others to make sure they are ready.

As Cad brings up the question about signals, Ben pops open the squeaky, ill-fitting trap door and peeks in.
He sees a large, square room in the dim light.
A recessed pool lined with moldy clay tiles takes up most of the room. Stagnant water fills the depression to a depth of one foot. Rising from the pool’s center is the head of a stone well that gives off an unpleasant, pungent odor. In one corner of the pool stands a tall, dirty, freestanding mirror in an oval frame, and floating on the water is a large lily pad.
Creaky wooden floorboards are arranged in a ten-foot-wide raised walkway around the pool. This walkway is crowded with shelves, tables, and stools in all shapes and styles. Almost every available surface is littered with stacks of dirty plates, scraps of food, and old junk. Dressing dummies are pushed together in one corner, and a wooden staircase spirals up from another corner. Five closed doors lead from the room.
Looking carefully at the floor as he stops to the side out of concern for the poor workmanship, Ben says, “Come on up. This place looks to be designed for a frog monarch, but no one is showing herself right now. Let Horatio take a look at the wood up here—we should be careful where we step.”

The floor is made of mossy wooden planks that creak, groan, and bend underfoot as Ben steps aside to help the others up. Nevertheless, there doesn't seem to be any immediately dangerous areas to step upon. (That said, stealth might be difficult if one were trying to sneak across this floor, as it's rather noisy.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Thanks Ben," Titaani says as he helps her up. "Thankyou for everything, all of you."
Tiny stays outside as a fidgeting Titaani scans the shelves for anything of interest - something vaguely magical or even something that looks like it was stolen.

Cad climbs through after Titaani. "Wait for the entourage to assemble, then announce us to the Great Bogmistress, herald." Cad tells Ben, affecting his 'court magician' persona. He moves aside to stand near the steps into the pool
Waiting for everyone to assemble, Ben makes his announcement as instructed…
“Announcing the Seekers of the Lost, the Patrons of the Carnival, the Explorers of the Feywild, and duly appointed emissaries of the Soggy Court! See before you Ben the Worker of Stone, Cadwallader the Purveyor of Magic Most Potent, Titaani the Mistress of the Archfey, and the Courageous Warrior Duo -- Matilda and Horatio!"
(He announces first in Sylvan, then next in Common)
Ben's pronouncement is met with complete silence, other than a single croak of a frog somewhere outside the window behind you.
Titaani glances around the room. The dress dummies on the other side of the pool give her the creeps. Most of the stuff here is trash – rotten food, filthy tableware, broken junk, mossy furniture – nothing that she would want to touch, let alone consider valuable. The mirror standing in the pool is a bit unusual, as is the 10-foot lily pad floating in the foul-smelling pool. Five closed doors lead out, together with a spiral staircase up.
There's a sharp crack as the plate glances off the mirror, leaving a deep crack across one corner of its face and chipping part of its frame. Two large pieces of broken plate careen off into the pool with a small splash which then ripples across the fetid pool.

Matilda nodded grimly, her hand tight on her knife.
Cadwallader:
"Good, a formal announcement should get us in unopposed. What will be the signal to attack, and who will give it?"

Remembering the mirrors in the funhouse Matilda tossed a plate at the mirror in the pool.
"What are you doing?" Titaani says in horror. "I was going to look in that mirror!"

"Now look what you've done," Titaani sulks, picking her way over carefully to the mirror. "It's all cracked."
She looks into the broken mirror, still clutching her boomerang tightly.
