Ben tries to make peace between the two warring children. Persuasion: 6
...but they just look at him nervously, scowl, and bolt into the crowd.
Dirla replies to Alyeira's question, "I don't know anything about a lost little boy. Perhaps that was before I began working this job? That sounds tragic. I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?"
" It was eight years ago.", Matilda pipes up.
" If not you would the former person in your job still be here?"
Ben: One of the girls snaps up the coins suspiciously while the other girl watches, and they vanish into the crowd.
Cad: Within is an illusory cyclops. Winning this game requires you to outstare it; Whoever blinks first loses. Make a DC 14 Constitution check to win. Cost: one ticket punch.
Colin: "Of course, of course! Hands are always welcome."
Everyone: Jeremy takes your tickets, and assigns pixie names to each of you before entering: (Presuming everyone is entering:) Matilda = Brightmite Alyeira = Cobweb Bob = Cotton Candy Ben = Dimple Cad = Jellybean Starfish Horatio = Panache Edgardo = Puddlemud Colin = Toadhop
Whether or not you agree to adopt your pixie names, Jeremy sprinkles pixie dust on everyone who enters. He also presents each of you with a sweet purple potion that, when consumed within the boundary of the Pixie Kingdom, reduces the imbiber’s size to Tiny for 1 hour, or until the imbiber wants the effect to end.
Within, the Pixie Kingdom is a tranquil oasis compared to the rest of the bustling carnival. The air is filled with the aroma of blackberry wine and flower blossoms. Eight brightly painted doorways are nestled in the bark at the bases of the surrounding trees. Three or four pixies pop their heads out of their tiny cottages. "Would you like a sandwich?" asks one.
Too busy regaling Primrose with the finer points of how he and Ben saved the day at the Dragonfly Rides, Bob manages to momentarily lose sight of the rest of the group. "Blast and damnations!"he curses as he desperately looks around.
"Primrose, any idea where the others scuttled off to," he asks with a shrug of the shoulders.
"The burly human male mentioned visiting the Pixie Kingdom,"she purrs. "Hadn't we best follow? What would Nikolas say if you were caught napping on the job?"
"Oh boy!" Bob declares as he stuffs the rope he was absent mindly playing with back into his satchel. "Let us off, Primrose. Tally-ho!"With that he endeavours to catch up with the rest of the group making their way towards the Fairy Kingdom.
Fairy Kingdom
Bob lets out a fit of giggles. "I'd say that my pixie name suits me well - Cotton Candy!" he says between chuckles."A san'wich?Mighty curious, why would someone eat a sandwich at this time?" Bob says to himself, truly perplexed. He had experienced the occasional strange happenings at the Carnival but being offered a sandwich outside of the acceptable lunching hours shook him to the core.
"Everythin' quite alrigh' 'ere?"he asks the pixies. "Why a san'wich? Ain't something more dinner-y more sui'able?"
Placing the glasses back into the wagon Edgardo sighs. "I guess I'll have to be plain old Edgardo for now." He watches as the others wander off towards the Pixie Kingdom. He follows along at a leisurely pace, his concern for his lost tail seemingly eased for now.
Nearing the Big Top again Edgardo catches a glimpse of the ogre. The chill returns to his skin. Goosebumps pop up all down his limbs. He rushes past the entrance and keeps focus on the group ahead of him. Something about that tent gives him the creeps but he can't seem to put a paw on it.
At the sight of the Snail Racing he bursts into a fit of laughter. "I've heard of a turtle and a rabbit racing each other, but snail racing?! Bahaha. I've got to check this out" he forgets about the Pixies and swerves straight towards the packed grandstand.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cadwallader:
Cad handed his ticket to the barker and ducked into the tent.
Within is an illusory cyclops. Winning this game requires you to outstare it; Whoever blinks first loses. Make a DC 14 Constitution check to win. Cost: one ticket punch.
He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, settles into a comfortable position, and snaps his eyes open to stare into the cyclops's single, massive eye. CON check: 4
He stares as long as possible. The cyclops's focus seems, well, inhuman. Finally, his eyes burning, he can stare no longer. He sags and blinks his eyes several times. "You're too much for me!" he says and exits the tent to catch up with the others.
He again presents his ticket and barely hears his name. Beanstar Jellyfish? Jellybar Beanfish? One of those I think. In a mood of reckless abandon, he downs the potions and zips through the air. He does several laps, laughing with delight. "Okay, first priority as a wizard: I need to learn a flying spell!"
Matilda: (Apologies - I missed your post... Dirla replies, "I don't know who held this job eight years ago. Feathereen might know. She's one of the gondola swans.")
Edgardo: Edgardo enters the snail racecourse. (Admission: free.) On the starting line, eight giant snails are having their shells scrubbed by pixies. Above the circular course, a wooden gantry hangs from the branches of a central tree, where two goblins officiate the proceedings. The crowd is lively; the jockeys' demeanor serious. The snails wear colored caparisons and have numbered saddles strapped to their shells. There is a delay in the upcoming race as they are short a few jockeys. Seeking Edgardo entering, a trio of pixies pantomimes to him, inviting him to become a jockey for a race. (Cost: one ticket punch.)
At the Pixie Kingdom: Those of you in the Pixie Kingdom all have the power of flight for a full minute. Those who imbibe the potion shrink to Tiny size. That first minute is mostly spent experiencing life as a tiny flying pixielike humanoid, darting and bobbing about in the cooling night air.
About a dozen pixies slowly make their presence known. They are friendly, curious, and eager to ask you all sorts of questions. They invite you to: • Ride "Pinecone", their excitable pug who is currently sniffing around the periphery. • Explore the kingdom’s centerpiece: a pixie palace made entirely of old cocoon husks beautifully woven together. • Enjoy snacks in their tiny cottages. • Ride the wheel, which is powered by a hamster they refer to as "Biscuit".
One brilliantly-colored pixie hands a tiny cucamelon sandwich to Toadhop (Colin). Another replies to Cotton Candy (Bob), "We have thimbleberry tarts if you prefer!"
Horatio takes the potion as soon as they enter the Pixie Kingdom, but doesn't play around with flying. Hoping that the pseudo isolation of this attraction affords its workers some freedom to speak, he goes to the nearest Pixie and asks, "Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but do you think you can help? I'm with a bunch of other folks, and several of us had lost things here at the carnival in past visits, and we're trying to find those things. I... I lost my reflection. I heard that Dirla lost her cub, and at least one other guest lost their sibling. Someone lost their tail, and another lost a book important to them. I hope you agree that, other than the book, those aren't normal things to lose in a carnival... er, really anywhere. Is there anything you know about this carnival that can help us find what we've lost, or at least find out how or why those things were taken?"
“That's terrible!" replies one pixie who introduces herself as Honeymint, to Horatio. "I know recently everyone’s on the lookout for a kenku troublemaker, but she’s using magic to disguise herself.”
Glittering with the application of the pixie dust and drinking the potion to shrink to pixie size, Ben takes to the air and cavorts with the others, feeling truly free for the first time in a long time. Perceptive onlookers may notice the pixie dust settle on his moth gray wings and stay there for a few moments, causing them to glisten with iridescent colors. Coming down to the ground as the magic fades, he hears the mention of a Kenku causing problems.
"Indeed," he intones, suddenly serious, "I did see a Kenku on the way back from the dragonfly rides. She was hiding in the shadows and I caught a glimpse of her transforming into a young human girl with an expression on her face far too intense for someone who appears to be that young. Yet I thought nothing of it given the wonders I have seen tonight. What problems has this particular miscreant been causing, Honeymint?"

Cad explores the palace of cocoons. Butterfly wings, now chrysalises. There's a theme of metamorphosis tonight. Well, that suits my mood precisely! He strolls among the husks, first trying to analyze how they were held together and the structure of the palace, but then giving in to the joy of simply admiring it. "Truly a wonder. Tell me, do you transport this with the Carnival or is it constructed afresh at each stop?" he asks whatever pixie is at hand.
To Panache (Horatio), Honeymint replies, "Days, months, years – they vary so much! Sometimes a day can feel like a year. Sometimes a year can feel like a day! But the carnival never closes. It hasn't for ages. But yes, the carnival only visits any one place every eight years, at least measured from without. Such philosophical thoughts! Burly the bugbear often talks philosophy. That bugbear has brains as well as brawn!”
To Dimple (Ben), Honeymint frowns and answers, "Oh, heckling. Spooking the animals. Breaking things. Stealing stuff. That's what I heard, anyway. Causing trouble. Really angered Mr. Witch, I think."
"Anyone want to ride Biscuit's wheel?" she asks, brightly.
Matilda accepts the dust and the name gladly, and keeping hold of the eladrins hand says, " Come along Cobweb!"

(( He will ask each Pixie in turn ))
Matilda listens as Horatio questions the pixies though she is a little distracted by the pixies questions of her as she flits about the area in wonder as she flys.
She floats down to ride on Biscuits wheel, her eyes still keenly observing all...
"Wait, what? Measured... from without? Can you speak normal? So, if it's been eight years for us, how long has it been for you since the last time the carnival passed through our area?" Horatio's head is starting to hurt, and he looks totally dumbfounded.
Although Alyeira had been to the Pixie Kingdom many times before, she cannot help but feel a spark of enthusiasm for the attraction - the usually stoic Matilda’s obvious excitement was contagious. Chuckling at the girls use of her pixie name, she downs the potion and follows her to the hamster’s wheel. As she does so, she cannot help but overhear the conversation between the human dubbed “Panache” and the nearby pixies. “Hmm..” the Eladrin muses her thoughts quietly to herself, a habit picked up from many years of Tebogo’s nonverbal companionship. “So Matilda and I are not the only ones to have lost something at this carnival.”
Another replies to Cotton Candy (Bob), "We have thimbleberry tarts if you prefer!"
Cotton Candy (Bob), just about getting over his shock, nods his head. "Yes... yes, I think I would prefer that,"he squeaks.
"Another Kenku 'round 'ere, causin' mischief?" he questions. I wonder if I know who it might be? Bob searches his mind, attempting to discern whether he may have encountered this individual before.
((Not sure whether this would be a roll, but I'll throw in a quick history check: 12, just in case.))
Pixie Kingdom: The powers of flight have ended all too soon, but you remain tiny (at least those who imbibed the potion.) The sandwiches and tarts are tasty, if a little too sweet, and the conversations and questions light-hearted and gossipy. The palace is an intricate marvel of very clever design filled with miniature furniture and furnishings and curious architectural surprises. ("Oh, we move it constantly. It is an ancient building!" remarks one pixie to Jellybean Starfish (Cad).)
To Panache (Horatio), Honeymint responds, "Time is a flowing brook - sometimes rapid, sometimes sluggish." Colin, Alyeira, and Bob understand. The carnival constantly travels, sometimes to worlds and lands that have very different measurements of hours, days, and years. They operate by no calendar, and the hands don't bother keeping track. And yet, the schedule of any one night is very exacting (if sometimes extremely repetitive), and to the outside world, the carnival reportedly reappears every eight years to the day. Witch and Light manage the carnival itinerary with no input from staff.
Brightmite (Matilda) joins Biscuit on the wheel. Cheerful and talkative, Biscuit tells bad jokes as he spins the miniature ferris wheel with her. Cobweb (Alyeira), nearby, listens in not only to Horatio but to the other pixies' conversations, which is mostly carnival gossip. ("Candlefoot the mime and Palasha the mermaid are in love!")
Cotton Candy (Bob) doesn't remember seeing any other kenkus about. But here has been a state of greater security very recently - probably why he was tasked with tonight's job.

Edgardo: Signs posted in the stands and along the racetrack warn that neither jockeys nor spectators may influence the outcome of a race by using magic or by harming other jockeys or snails. (The race itself, should you choose to actively participate - at the cost of one ticket punch - will be a series of Animal Handling checks.)
There is a brief moment on the wheel when giddy from all the sensations, the talkative hamster and all the pixies flitting about where Matilda forgets why she came here.
As she realises it she freezes in place and the joy she was feeling vanishes in an instant.
" Is that how easy it is?", she says to herself in a horrified voice.
She exits the wheel and stands looking at the others, but the smile is gone.
