Perner spends the rest attuning to the sword

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Vinny overhears Perner and mentally prepares himself to physically wrest the staff or sword away from those who are attuning themselves to them, should things begin to appear to go sidewise.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bran watches the amber fog close around them again and suppresses a shiver at the memory of spiders. He takes the first watch as the others look at the weapons, trying to be extra vigilant after what happened the last time they rested. Perception: 21.
Perner takes the longsword from Zera. While at first it feels nicely warm, it quickly becomes ice cold in Perner's hands. Aside from its physical attributes of being an old, well used sword of excellent make which appears to have the crest of whatever family owns this castle on its hilt, Perner is unable to glean any further information from this weapon. Indeed, it feels clumsy in his hands.
Bran settles in for his watch - which is uneventful.

“Ohh, well - this staff should come in useful- it has healing magic- I had heard of these before. I can carry it for the group, as I can use it on any of us, but to be clear, I consider it our property, not mine alone.” Zera says.
“I know I’m pretty, but swords aren’t usually interested in me! Sorry Perner- it’s a mystery to me, maybe we can figure it out..” she continues.
Vinny takes the icy blade. It soon warms in his hand as he examines it. It is old but still retains a fine edge. An excellent weapon of estimable pedigree!
Feeling the weight of the weapon in his hand he roll his wrist around and the blade makes a fine sweeping molinello across the right side of a phantom sparring partner.
A few more alternating molinelli and he begins to cut and sweep using two hands. It feels remarkably responsive in his hands. After working with it for a while he is surprised how the blade seems to almost anticipate his actions, making haphazard cuts in his tiring hands still end with precision. Although not striking anything but air, the blade becomes warm - not too hot to the touch, but definitely warm - it is as if the blade enjoys this martial practice. Vinny is overcome with a certainty that this blade must have had some connection to a great military personage of this household. Vinny wonders many thoughts about who this might have been and how the weapon may have come to be in a closet. As his mind wanders to and fro on these thoughts, he notices the sword seems to heat and cool in response to his train of inquiry. In this manner and through an almost telepathic bond forming with the weapon, he discovers the following about the blade:
The weapon has a name! Herve the Blade.
You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. It has the following additional properties.
Detect Magic. Herve can sense the presence of magic within 30 feet of it when you concentrate on using this power. If magic is present, you can use an action to see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that bears magic, and you can learn its school of magic, if any. This power can penetrate most barriers, but is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood. This property can be used at will.
Detect Secret Doors. Herve locates all secret doors within 10 feet of it as if it possessed a passive Perception score of 20. Secret doors, for the purpose of this property, include any intentionally concealed doorway, hatch, entrance, or other portal designed to be unrecognizable from the surrounding environment by its creator. Thus, the sword would locate a shifting bookcase that conceals a passageway, a portion of stone wall that pivots, or a trapdoor hidden underneath a carpet, but not a doorway concealed by a cave-in or a trapdoor located underneath a collapsed ruin. You know the exact location of the door, but not always the means to open it. This property can be used up to three times each day, resetting at dawn each day.
Detect Traps. The sword can sense the presence of any trap within 10 feet of it if it is within the sword's line of sight. A trap, for the purpose of this property, includes anything that would inflict a sudden or unexpected effect you would consider harmful or undesirable, which was specifically intended as such by its creator. Thus, the sword would sense an area affected by the alarm spell, a glyph of warding, or a mechanical pit trap, but it would not reveal a natural weakness in the floor, an unstable ceiling, or a hidden sinkhole. This property merely reveals that a trap is present. You don't learn the location of each trap, but you do learn the general nature of the danger posed by the trap that is sensed. this property can be used up to three times each day, resetting at dawn each day.
Sentience. Herve is a sentient neutral good weapon with an Intelligence of 9, a Wisdom of 11, and a Charisma of 15. It has hearing and normal vision out to 60 feet. The weapon can communicate by transmitting emotion to you, sending waves of warmth and cold up your hand and arm when it wants to communicate something it has sensed. Warmth is used to express the presence of something or when Herve is in an excited state Cold is employed to indicate the absence of something or when the sword wishes to indicate displeasure or negative feelings.
Personality. Herve was the Captain of the Guard for the D'Amberville family before the Curse struck. When it fell upon the Castle, he was transformed into a longsword as both punishment for failing to protect Etienne from his brother's treachery and to better serve those who wish to end the Curse. To the sword's credit, it remains loyal to Etienne and it acts to aid you in bringing about an end to the D'Amberville curse.
“Remarkable.” Vinny says mostly to himself. He turns to the party and relays what he has learned about the sword.
”This is Herve. He was the Captain of the Guard, sworn to protect Etienne and the house of D’Amberville. He was transformed into this weapon when the Curse fell upon the family. He will aid us with powers beyond slashing to help us end the Curse.”
Vinny raises the sword and places the flat of the blade on his forehead momentarily. He closes his eyes and projects this vow to the blade, Our goals seem to be in alignment. You wish for the Curse to end and we wish to be released from this house. I will do whatever is in my power to see both goals reached.
Perner stares absently at vinny for a moment, pondering. Then he he grunts, stand up, and without giving anyone a chance to react casts. his eyes glow with an inner light and slowly at first, then snapping into place, a pool of water, no more than a few inches deep, forms around him, stretching out to 15'. Almost in a trance he begins speaking in a voice that contains the endless depth of the ocean. "Lies Will Not Be Suffered Upon Sanctified Waters, Accept The Touch Of Truth And Be Blessed"

"I, Vincent Pox am wholly and entirely devoted to getting the entire party safely out of this deathtrap. I am in control of my body and faculties and harbor no hidden hatreds or deceits.”
The party, both intrigued, challenged and confused by Perner's confrontation each shuffle amongst themselves on how to address it. While doing so, Perner, who is watching each notices that Veil has been unusually still for the feline sorceress. So still, it seems she is as a statue ...
Bran leans against his staff, eyebrow raised as Vinny repeats the oath, then shrugs and repeats it himself. “I don’t see what this does, but I, Bran of the Broken Ones, am completely devoted to getting us all out of this deathtrap. I am in control of my mind and body and harbor no hidden hatred or deceits.”
