The pull isn't consistent, but occasionally, your hand pulls diagonally towards the tree and down to the ground. You easily pull it back to you, but it definitely seems to be drawn to something, or something is drawing it to it. It does have a consistent radiation of energy seeping from it though and the stake is warm to the touch.
T’bitha looks to Tristan and then back to the stake. “It really wants to go to the tree. I wonder…” her voice trails off in thought as she looks at the stake closely. “You think this stake is made of the same wood as those tree’s thorns, Tristan? Walk with me? I’m curious to see why the stake wants to go to the tree.”
The drow stands and holds onto the stake tightly, but allows the stake to pull her along. Her curiosity becoming insatiable. Should she sense danger or a perceived threat, she will let go of the stake.
T’bitha is both curious and concerned. She realized it wanted to go to the tree; but for what purpose? Do I really want to play chicken right now?
At about 25 feet she stops and pulls the stake back to her and looks at Tristan, “I don’t know, Tristan. Maybe I need to keep the stake away from the tree. This whole thing is weird and mysterious. Let’s get back to camp. I’m sorry to drag you.”
T’bitha makes her way back to the campfire, holding onto the stake tightly.
As both of you turn to return back to the campsite, which truly isn't far. You only walked about 20-30 feet. You both get that eerie feeling that you're being watched from somewhere.
”I don’t like this feeling, Tristan. Maybe we should get the others up.” T’bitha looks around the camp and begins gently nudging the party awake. ”Everyone, I think we may have some company.”
T’bitha looks one more time around the camp, “Luminous”
Khessa is horrified when, waking up from her nightmares, the first thing she sees is... a drow's face!
'Damn! Murderous vermin-worshipper, I'll... ' the two hands are already on the handle of the greatsword and the legs flexed to kick the threat away... 'No, wait, it's T'bitha!'
The blonde arcane warrior stands up, however looking around her suspiciously and asks the Eilistraee priestess: "What's going on T'bitha? Did you think you saw something?"
T'bitha, you cast faerie fire at the sole entrance of the glade, and a few rocks in the area light up, but no creatures seem to light up. You get the sense there is nothing there, though that feeling you're being watched continues.
"Sorry dear," Khessa caresses the cheek of the priestess, realizing she has scared her without wanting"it's all ok, I was just having a bad dream".
The blonde arcane warrior promptly forgets her bad dreams, chosing to focus on the possibility of a bad reality instead! She asks: "Do you think there is something there?" pointing in the direction of the few rocks hit by the faerie fire "Let's see if we can spot it".
The tall warrior-mage fetches a pebble, like she did when he was on watch, and whispers a familiar formula; as the pebble starts emanating warm orange light she throws it in that general direction, hoping to see the cause of T'bitha's concern.
T'bitha, you take a solid look around the camp and the surrounding you can see, and other than your group, there is absolutely no movement. But there is now sound as different party members are groaning and coming to as you began waking them. If there was something quietly stalking around, the silence that would have helped you find them, is now gone.
Khessa, as you toss the rock, nothing visible illuminates as the rock disappears into the darkness. However, just like last time, you see a gleam of reflected light appear for a split second in the same spot as when you last threw a rock.
(OOC: Have you put the stake away, or are you continuing to hold onto it so it doesn't pull your backpack towards the tree?)
T’bitha shakes her head unbelievably, ”I swear something is watching us. I am so sorry for waking you all up. I cannot wait to get this urn back to Ozemon tomorrow.”
She continues to look around; however, she plops down resignedly near the campfire. She looks at the stake as it urges to leave her hands and head towards the tree.
A few moments after you resign and sit next to the fire, the pulling from the stake stops, and moments later, that feeling of being watched disappears as well.
"Hey T'bitha," puts the hand gently on her shoulder Khessa "you did very well to wake us up. It is the purpose of the guard, to wake up the others when there is something suspicious. Just to prevent someone from never ever waking up again!"
"And using the stake" she only now notes the drow keeping it in her hands"might have also been a good idea. If it has been able to keep Mr Death Wish in place for eons, it might be a powerful weapon against some of the creatures that we can find here".
"Anyway, one thing we have to admit:" points out the tall arcane warrior "the nights here are quite busy, but, on the other hand, there aren't many who want to go in here... Sometimes they wake us up, but they don't do us the courtesy of a proper visit. Anyone who cares so much about us, either Mr Death Wish, or Mr Small Shady, or anyone else, doesn't seem willing to join us. So I suggest we do the same. Let's wait a little to see if anything comes in, but if nothing else happens I would suggest we go back to rest".
"Of course," the blonde warrior-mage recommends to T'bitha and Tristan "wake us up again whenever something makes you suspicious. Better that in the morning you see us less rested... that less alive!"
If nothing else occurs through the night, T’bitha will pass on the watch to Hadi and get some rest. She will secure the stake into her pack and use her pack as a pillow.
T'bitha and Tristan wake Hadi up and return to sleep for the night. Hadi, with a perception of 18 (rolled privately), your watch goes rather uneventfully; not even the sound of crashing trees like you were promised. You never felt as if something was watching you, it was a dull and boring third shift; but perhaps that is for the best? Unless there is anything you would like to do during your watch, Hadi, everyone wakes up, feeling refreshed.
T’bitha grabs the stake to prevent it from going towards the tree. She looks at the stake and then to Tristan with a worried look on her face.

The stake seems to be leading you directly to the tree, T'bitha. How close are you going to get?
Tristan, you scoop up the urn, carrying it with you as you follow T'bitha.

”S-something is watching us, I just don’t know what.” T’bitha anxiously peers around the campfire looking for whatever is making her feel nervous.
