Looking at the journal you can see entries brainstorming his ideas for his tower. You see notes about an arcane object in the land of Thay. Hopes for his man to return swiftly with it, that it was a key to unlocking the spell in the Red Wizards book he had acquired….he write of his concern for his missing servants, saying it wasn’t like them to shirk their duties or wander off….he was becoming suspicious of Butterman, caught him poking about…The Red Wizards had found about about Abernath having acquired the book, time has run out. He wrote that he felt he could do the spell without the original artifact, that he could fashion one of his own to takes its place. He wrote that he would go to to the tower and try the spell.
“Take a look at this wall. It’s actually a map. We should make a copy of it for reference. It may provide some key locations”. Sparhawk looks for some blank paper and a quill with ink near the desk.
Frangipani continues trying to get purchase on the trapped gnome, she experimentally licks the cube.
The cube seems like it avoids your tongue. It recoils as your little sandpaper appendage barely makes contact. The flavor is similar to Japanese rice candy
Frangipani scrunches down and examines the cube then randomly leaps off the ground and onto Bjorns head.

The final thought he wrote was “ three are one…”
Vars nods to himself as he reads, as if some of his suspicions were confirmed. "Sounds like Butterman was our murderer, and Abernathy gave him a what for. Why not just kill him though?" Vars hesitates, glancing to his companions, "Well, I was almost right. He did use the book, but it wasn't the book that made him disappear." He sighs, "Blasted Irongrass, why would he assume that the Red Wizards had nothing to do with this? They have everything to do with this!" He pauses again, "And he wrote three are one here again. Perhaps this has to do with the tower, the artifact, and the book?"
He nods to Sparhawk, "Good idea." Then he picks up the journal, "Perhaps this can help us later on. I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to have another chat with Irongrass. We should turn in Butterman, perhaps we will get a reward, and we should show him this journal. And...we should also ask if anyone else has been through here. If no one has, then why?" He frowns, growling a little, "It felt like he shoved us off a little to fast during our meeting. As if there are questions he didn't want to answer for us."
Sorsha looks through the journal herself to see what Vars is talking about. "So when you say the book didn't make him disappear what is your theory then Vars?"
"So Abernath wanted to build a tower using magic. And to do it, he sent Butterman to obtain the book. It looks like the book drove the gnome mad. But the book is nowhere to be found..."
“We’ll that’s one possibility,” Vars nods to Bjorn. “The other is that Butterman was recruited by the Red Wizards to retrieve the book. Though looking back on it, your idea might make more sense, at least about Butterman going mad. Yet, it doesn’t say anywhere that Butterman was the one who found the book. I still think that Abernathy was the one who found that. From the beginning, I’ve thought that this mysterious book was responsible for Abernath’s disappearance, whether by accident or on purpose. However, this makes it sound like the book was just one component, leading him to search for the artifact. Yet according to the journal, Abernath never received the artifact, instead fleeing and hoping to make one for himself. I have a feeling that wherever he went to, it has something to do with that tower.” He pulls out the picture of the tower, “If he was planning on building this, surely someone knows of him acquiring land somewhere. Again, another reason to meet with Irongrass.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thinking back Sorsha ponders if there could be some space unaccounted for beyond the western part of the northern wall and starts to search that part of the wall for secret doors. Investigation: 13
(Hm, the roll says 3 but it also says 12+1, weird.) (And now I got the red flag too :-P )

,you recall the reading nook at the top of the stairs wasn’t as deep as this room is and it would abut the wall with the map
"We should probably avoid touching the cube until we talk to Irongrass, or at least someone with a better grasp of Arcane Magic. Remember that looking at a picture sent us across town and touching a building nearly got one of us killed."
"There's a keyhole! Or is it just the image of a keyhole? Look, straight east from the Kryptgarden Forest."
Bjorn suddenly ducks to avoid the cat, but to no avail. She ends up getting claws tangled up in his hair and he groans and complains.
"I'm, ah, also seeing three images of towers. Are you quite certain you're not a demon? Look, there's one in Chult -- why are you -- stop it! -- one near the Spine, and one at sea, ah, west of the Whalebones."
[I doubt Bjorn knows much about these places, but I'm thinking they match up with the portraits we found. Or, two of them probably do, and the third is where we'll find Abernathy. Maybe he builds towers wherever he goes.]
Sorsha too studies the map together with Bjorn, flinching as Frangipani the cat jumps up on his head, then letting out a tired sigh. "I suspect there could be a secret room behind this map, the towers may simply be the key to open the secret door. Hm, three are one."She says and starts off by touching the map at the point with the same distance from the three towers (which I guess would put us somewhere at the east end of Cloud Peaks, but maybe I'm overthinking this.)

"Whatever happened, I'm sure Abernath will be found at the location he chose for his tower."
[Can we intuit where that is, based on the materials here?]
The map may provide some clues.
,you recall the reading nook at the top of the stairs wasn’t as deep as this room is and it would abut the wall with the map
Here is the map on the wall for you to seek clues
(Hi guys. I’m on vacation with the family for a week so may not respond quickly. If combat arises, feel free to have Dwar play me as npc.
“Anyone up for the Butterman rope experiment?” Sparhawk looks carefully at the cube, making sure it has not moved (investigation 14

Investigate if cube is moving at all. 23
“Ok. I’ll wait on Butterman. Anything else of note in here? We still have a key” Sparhawk looks at the group for next steps.
Edit: The issue was on my end. I'll look over the map!
