Bjorn's mood has improved with the good turn of events lately. The heat is more bearable at night, the crew will be getting paid, and now there's wine! He forgets to thank Lady Luck, like usual.
He keeps having thoughts about that book, though. So much power, just being squandered because of superstition... "Any of ye ever trained an apprentice? Mayhaps I'm just getting old, but I can't help thinking about legacy," he says, dishonestly.
Sparhawk, feeling better after crushing the skull looks at his friend...."I've trained some squires. For the most part, they are a pain in the arse. But, sometimes, you can get them to run errands for you. You thinking about taking one on Bjorn?"
After just About an hour inside the hut, Lir’s scorpion returns carrying 2 desiccated yet squirming zombie bodies. Sparhawk doesn’t feel the nausea this time due to the properties of the magic hut. Shortly afterwards the scorpion fades away and 10 more zombies lumber out of the jungle, apparently following the 2 the scorpion had brought..they spend the next hour shambling around, doing zombie things. At one point they discover the shelter and press their zombie faces against it and try to move it a few times. Eventually, they wander off, back towards the jungle in search of prey.
Bjorn:
While you are resting, you hear the voice in your head chuckling a bit at the zombie antics. The voice tells you, “ zombies and skeletons are the bottom wrung of the undead, but some of the most useful as they are mostly just puppets. These were puppets with no master so they just randomly move until they stumble upon a victim “
in your mind you see images of how they are created and the mechanism of their animation and control. Something you get to look forward too as your studies progress
"Well my friends, there must be some source of evil here. This may be too good to pass up. Thoughts?" Sparhawk sharpens his blade and polishes his armor.
"These are dregs." As the hut comes to an end, Bjorn watches to see if any zombies remain nearby. "My money says there's someone around who thinks and acts like you do, Cap'n. The zombies' master is already dead or been chased off. Could we be close to civilization?"
Re: an apprentice - "Aye, mayhaps I'm getting long in the tooth but I been thinkin' 'bout me legacy. Pass on the dirty tricks I've learned and whatnot. Plus, it'd be someone to carry the heavy stuff, like ye said." He doesn't say, 'And experiment with the cursed tomes so the crew can see if you die or something.' But he thinks it, lol.
You shove off on the river in your boat. The current picks up a little, but still leisurely, which makes for easy work on the oars. As you progress into the jungle, under the thick canopy of trees, there is no more sky to be seen. There are dark shapes in the water that quickly disappear when you approach, likely crocodiles.
As you float down river you come upon some large obstructions in the middle of the river and you float around towards the right bank. As you get closer you see the obstruction is a large tree that was knocked over in a storm or by some other means. The huge tangly roots jutting up out of the water.
There are large vines dangling from above near the shore, not far over your heads, a few Sparhawk finds himself having to duck to avoid contact

The rest of your sleep cycle goes without incident and the sun begins to set.

Lir checks for any signs of activity overnight in the ground around the hut.
Survival - 14
Lir finds allot of tracks. Mostly draggy zombie prints, but also some medium sized reptilian prints, likely crocodile as well as lots of rodent tracks

“Well, anyone wanna find said zombie master and see what all the fuss is about?”
"Dead things. Trouble. Do we take to the boat?"
“Yes, stay on the boat but heed the warning, dead a head”

Frangipani slips off the boat and into the water, somewhat larger than the average crocodile she shadows the boats journey.

Somewhat surprised by the sudden change, Sparhawk looks at the others, "I hope she doesn't find a mate, or we might be down another crewmate."
"Keep yer eyes out for an ambush. This is where I would do one for sure."
Just as Sparhawk finishes his sentence, out of the darkness from both the bank and the fallen tree spring forth some kind of living vines.
