Eberk takes over carrying Sparhawk. “Go get some rest, Zaal. I got it from here.” He turns to Frangipani and Lir. “Keep an eye out for Bjorn, if you don’t mind.”
He takes Sparhawk up and puts him in his room. Eberk takes a seat next to the door and prays as he watches over the captain.
Zaal reluctantly lets Eberk take over carrying Sparhawk, but he doesn't part ways with them. He gives the dwarf a weary nod, but follows along until the paladin is safely in his room at the inn. Once that is finished, he weighs his options for where to sleep that night... and ultimately opts for renting a room himself as trying to look elsewhere doesn't seem too appealing at the moment. Plus he's also waiting to see if he'll be 'accepted' for this job after all.
Bjorn shows up later on, with a tall tale about having been the one to ring the alarm bell, which would be quite unbelievable if not for the details he provides about the bell tower's interior.
"Ye did good bringing him back safe. If ye can figure out why he'd put so much trust in a total stranger, well, then you'll understand him better than I do." Bjorn shrugs, but smiles.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Frangipani had no idea what any of them were talking about but gave Bjorn an experimental lick just in case he could no longer be trusted and needed to become rations.

Bjorn tastes bitter, a bit spoiled but with a little honey might make for a special treat one day. Otherwise he seems like Bjorn
You all go back to bed after Sparhawk gets tucked in. His loud snoring through his crooked nose and the look of contentment on his face lets everyone know things are fine.
The morning comes and goes. Sparhawk still sleeping soundly as you all make final Preparations for the trip back up the river.
The Baron stops by and informs you all the plan will be too take his ship and moor offshore near the river entrance where your team will take a rowboat up the river to the garden. He will wait for you on the ship. The plan is to leave early next morning.
As the Afternoon turns to evening, Sparhawk has some visitors. An Elf named Aaron, along with a newly promoted journeyman Jeweler, all smiles. Just a young, human lad.
They brought Sparhawk’s clothing and gear from the chapel. It is spotlessly cleaned and cared for, they also have a small wooden chest with a magic seal.
” These are for the illustrious Sir Sparhawk. Has he awakened?”
Sparhawk opens his eyes. He is lying in a clean bed. He wonders how long he has been out. Last thing he remembered, was that white Tortle, Ah, Sir Dod yelling, ”Hang in there Brother, we are on the cusp of finishing this worthy endeavor."
He thinks of his plan of testing Zaal to see what type of man he truly is. Since getting his vision, the type of crew he builds needs to have a greater vision of this world than just gold. He wonders if his test of Bjorn proved what he suspected. (that he is indeed an honest and loyal man, though none had ever truely trusted him with those he would call his true friends, or if Bjorn would choose a different path) He drifts back into sleep, still not quite ready to face the group.
Then there was the new vision, of a beautiful garden with trees and succulent fruits. A paradise....with a dark shadow at the far end, true malevolent evil.
Eberk takes the armor from the Tortle. He gives a dirty look to Zaal, Bjorn, and the newcomers. “There better be a damn good explanation for all of this.” He makes his way up to the captain’s room. Laying down the armor, he pours a bit of water from his waterskin on Sparhawk. “Up and at’em! You have visitors… and answers to give.” Eberk returns to wait for Sparhawk to join the group.
Sparhawk awakens as the refreshing water pours on him. "Eberk! Give me a few to get ready."
Sparhawk will inspect and gather the amulets and see if anything else is in the chest. He will then bring the chest down with the amulets inside, and keep it locked for now.
In about 10 minutes, the huge half orc comes down to the main area. He is dressed in his full armor, as shiney as if it was just purchased. His clothing, clean. A black cape draped behind him. He has a huge smile on his face.
"Alright, lets gather the crew, and lets make sure our new sleepy friend, Zaal joins us. I have some unfinished business with him."
Once everyone is together, Sparhawk, who has been quite hungry stops eating for a moment.
He seems different, certainly less unhinged than when they gathered last for breakfast. He has shaved and clearly slept well. But there is something very different, powerful about him. The whole group feels very confident around the paladin. (All Sparhawks friends within 10 feet of him have a +3 Bonus to all saving throws. This is always in effect unless he is unconscious: Aura of Protection)
"My friends, I have been busy. I commissioned a few items and...it seems to have taken a rather big toll on me. I am sorry I have not been available. I feel much better now." On the table in front of Sparhawk is a small well made closed chest that is locked.
"I'd like to start by addressing Zaal."
"Zaal, we have known each other for only a brief time. I asked you to do a favor for me. You accepted the task, not knowing any details. You did not know there could be potential danger to you and you did not ask for pay. I admire that you are not motivated by greed. Your actions have done two things. First, you have earned my trust, and that is a hard thing to acquire these days. Second, I now owe you my life."
He looks at his friends. "You might find that my crew is different than most. We have all been alone and with no friends or family and have faced the cruel injustices of life, through various difficult circumstances that only the gods could understand. But, in our journeys, we have bonded together. These people are now my brothers and sisters, not just a random group of people who work together for an employer. I trust each of them with my life." (He looks at Bjorn, smiles and nods, then at Eberk, Frangipani, and Lir.)
"Zaal, you are now faced with a choice. You can continue to travel these lands alone, finding employment from those who would hire you and I will pay you for your task last night and ask no more of you." He places a small coin purse on the table. "Or, it would be my honor if you would join my crew and be my brother, for as long as you can tolerate us. What say you?”
When the Baron comes by, Zaal (in spite of no longer actually being the man's body guard) takes the opportunity to warn him about the Dockmaster. If asked why he's suspicious, he simply states that the man might be testing the path of burglary and needs to be watched out for. He chooses not to interact with those who came from the temple, opting instead to watch quietly from a short distance. He seems completely oblivious to Eberk's dirty look... though he probably did notice it and chose to ignore it. He waits quietly... looking as sleepy as ever... as they wait for Sparhawk to join them.
He takes a moment to join the group when Sparhawk states he has unfinished business with him--and he stands next to the table, leaning against the wall instead of taking a seat. He listens silently, red eyes watching the paladin as he goes off about his crew being family. When the coin purse is set on the table, he barely spares it a glance, instead closing his eyes briefly and taking a breath.
"I was always told that trust is a two way street," he says, slowly. "And though your trust may be... hard to earn, I must say that my own may be even more so. There are very few people in this world that I truly trust, and I must say that right now, I do not trust your group." His eyes flick to Bjorn specifically, likely recalling some observations from the night before--prior to the Dockmaster showing up. (He assumes that Bjorn had run off). "This does not mean that I am not willing to work with you, but, I prefer to be up front." He crosses his arms, taking another deep breath, "I intend to accompany you on this mission for Dietrich. After that, we will see. You seem to be an honorable man, Sparhawk, though I do not approve of how your actions placed civilians in danger--I do not know if you were aware that would happen, so I will not judge you for it. So, you have my respect. But though you may be honorable, that may not be the same for the rest of your company. Perhaps I will feel differently after this mission, but I cannot guarantee that I will." His eyes narrow briefly, and the scar below his eye shows pale against his dark skin, "For I fear my trust is hard won."
As far as anyone can tell, the only person that Zaal seems to have any true trust/respect for currently is Dietrich, and judging by their interactions it should be clear that he has known the man for a very long time.
After a moment he says, "So, if you will still have me accompany you, I will do my utmost to be... of use to your group." He still makes no move to take the money offered to him, as it is clear he would prefer to embark on this mission.
Even though Zaal doesn't trust this group yet, he still views this as any other job. He'll give his fullest to backing the group, and will put his life on the line to ensure their safety--as he feels that is expected in a group setting like this. He will contribute whatever skills he has that will prove helpful, but has no intention of becoming part of this 'family' until they manage to gain mutual trust with him. After all, trust means little if it is not a shared sentiment.

Frangipani raised an eyebrow unsure whether she was looking for Bjorn out of concern or because it was time to eat him.

Seemingly satisfied with Bjorn she gives Sparhawk a kick for being a drama queen then goes back to bed.

" He's still sleeping.", Frangipani called out from under a table.
“ could one of you bring him his gear and wake him to receive this chest. It is very important we give it to him directly “

" Anyone else see those rowdy dead folks last night?"
