While resting and browsing the book you find an interesting page discussing the creation of a minion from collected parts. You also find an image of the necklace/ collar Sparhawk pulled from the dead wizard and the thought comes to you the arms and collar might be useful to you and maybe they are bad for Sparhawk to be carrying
For the staff, I'm thinking Lir should play around with it and see if its of any use to him."

You detect the magical essence and feel a soft vibration. You realize you will need to spend at least one half an hour pondering its secrets for it to reveal itself to you
Lir waves to Frangipani to get her attention and then signs in Druidic.
"Do you want the bug staff? It's magic. Needs... patient reflection. Might be powerful. The lackey who died mentioned it."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sparhawk will explain his symptoms to Eberk and Frangipani. Then try to rest the best he can. “This place is not good for me maybe the book or the gas?”

Frangipani shook her head tightly, she was too worried about Sparhawk....
She placed her hands on his head and made several threats towards whatever was harming him.

"Heh. He should know better than to let his guard down." Bjorn sighs. "But, y'know, he ain't so bad. That thing nearly killed him just now. An' he didn't turn tail on us."
He carefully picks through the sleeping Captain's bag for the weird magic necklace, comparing it to its drawing in the book. "Thing's related to lichdom, or maybe it's even what killed the intruder. Either way, he ain't going to miss it." Bjorn ties the metallic band to the outside of his bag, a little concerned it might turn his supplies into dust or angry beetles. "Surprised he can even sleep with this thing on him, what with how he talks about the stench of evil and all."
He looks up at Lir's comment. "Wait, did the underling say something about a staff? All I heard was whinin'."
He turns to Eberk. "How's the inspection going? Need a hand?" He waves one of the arms around.
You notice the arms that were a nice pale white when Sparhawk cut them are now an ashen green color, making the embedded gems stand out even more. The arms looked significantly aged and the cut ends look a little like tree roots.
As you remove the necklace and arms from Sparhawks bag you can see his sleeping face relax even more, like a huge weight was lifted from his soul

Nothing new comes to your attention, you reason the other room was sort of a vault for the book and maybe a ritual of some kind
“No other surprises that I can tell, Captain. Though it’s hard to tell around here.”

Again the knotting in your stomach and the feeling of two hands around your neck causes you to double over and vomit and or dry heave.

“Thank you my friends”.
The big half orc, putting up his best to not show he was not well, instantly seems to feel better and begins to fall asleep.
" Ok...now that he is asleep we perform excellent mutiny! No?", Frangipani grinned.

Lir stares at Bjorn for a beat too long.
Then snatches the discarded staff off the ground and goes off to a corner to trance with it.
Bjorn uncovers the severed arms as well. "Eugh."
He turns to Eberk. "How's the inspection going? Need a hand?" He waves one of the arms around.

After a while you gain the connection to the staff and realize it capabilities. You now hold Staff-of-swarming-insects , Abernaths favorite staff.
Lir grunts approvingly. "When all things drown there will be floating feasts for the flies and grubs."
Frangipani nods approvingly then uses Sparhawk as a body pillow, intentionally drooling in his ear.
(Long rest if they let the poor guy sleep)
