Belkaria's eyes widen as she sees what Salamir has found, wondering how hard it would be to break those locks... then her shoulders drop as Javier mentions taking them back to town. "Fun hater"she says under her breath.
If he hears this he gives her some side eye and sticks his tongue out at her briefly with a slight frown, "I'm fine with checking out what's inside, If it's the payroll and other things, I have a hunch it might be worth more than 100gp... they all seemed pretty desperate to get this stuff back so negotiations, reasonable negotiations that is, make sense to me personally."
Hlin looks over Dirak's condition. "Your in a terrible state, here sit and have a bit of water and food" She rummages through her pack for her mess kit. She takes out the cup and poor some water into it from her waterskin and takes out a ration for Dirak.
Salamir and Garth focus on the locks on the chests, and after sweating, a dropped pick or two, the locks finally frustrate the two of them as they came so close to opening them.
Dirak takes the food and water from Hlin, thanking her. He tears into the ration and drinks a good bit of water, he tears up slightly when he’s eating, he looks back at the pit he was in, and the dead bodies at the other end of the room. “RJ Mining. I bet there’s a good bit of gold in there.”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Garth draws in a breath when the locks beat them then looks around at the room.
"We should explore a little more then take a rest. Maybe with a clear head the locks will seem simpler..." He frowns at looks up at the others, "There's also the matter of Tark and the sleeping goblin."
As he is speaking he walks over to Sawtooth's body and starts to methodically remove his equipment, setting each piece aside as he searches for a key that might open the chests.
Searching Sawtooth’s body, you find 31 gold pieces in a pouch, a gold ring worth 10 gp, a silver ring worth 2 gp, and a large tooth that appears to be from a panther. He had 2 javelins with him, a chainmail shirt, and a great axe.

(( @DM: I'd like to explore the various other areas, if at all possible -- should we do that explicitly, going to each room, or are we now effectively 'done' here and can just summarize? ))
While he waits for his companions -- some of whom clearly would benefit from a rest -- Garth returns to the chest with Salamir and takes a slow and methodical approach to working on the lock. "Sometime you gotta go back to first principles, eh?"
(( If Salamir does not work on the chest, Garth will ask to borrow his tools for a few minutes ))
Salamir hands the picks to Garth, “Maybe you’ll have better luck taking the lead on it. I could feel the point where the tumbler should turn, maybe it just needed a little pressure applied. Let me hold this pick in here, whilst you try to turn it”, he says, offering his help as Garth makes the attempt.

Garth nods, "Aye. Sometimes you just have to spend a while messing with it to get the feel of it -- learn the way it works -- but let's give it another go. I didn't spend all my life in the forest, you know."
He asks for more light, and tries to get a feel for the correct order for each pin as he works.
Garth has it when he takes over the lock picks, the tumblers easily move to his liking and click into place, the locks pop open. Inside you see several sacks that contain gold pieces. When you open them up, you estimate there are 200 gold pieces in each of the two chests.

Belkaria's eyes go wide as she sees the contents of the chest. She smiles at Javier with his reaction, "Agreed, this is definitely what they are looking for. Think there are any carts or something for us to use to carry this out of here? Speaking of, have we found a way out of here? I suppose we should go check on the way Tark was running. Oh.. and there is the talk of that monster?"
She turns around towards Dirak, "Hey Dirak, did you hear anything about a monster down here? A little goblin mentioned one?"
Salamir nods to Belkaria. “Yes, we did find the way out if you remember. Don’t remember seeing a cart though. Those chests do look a little heavy to carry without one though, so there must be one somewhere”.
He then waits with interest for Dirak’s reply regarding the monster.
Garth inspects the chests for contents other than gold then nods to the remarks of the others, "A finder's fee would be appropriate, I'd say. But..." he takes out some bags, "...a little insurance is always wise, and ten percent is traditional, eh? We'll see what they say when we get there."
He nods at Salamir's words, "Aye. I saw no cart either. For now, lets see what else is here, eh? Can't be a mine without a cart. How did you move your gold, my friend?" he asks Dirak.
As he works and after he is satisfied that the chests contain nothing else, he closes the locks on them once more, and puts the bags and Sawtooth's money in his pack, "We can divide the spoils when we know what's what."
Dirak, feeling stronger, pipes up and says “I had a mine cart with me where I was working last, right near that area where the floor gave way on me.” He pauses on the mention of a monster, considering. “I never saw any “monsters” other than these bastards, and those little annoying cave sprites that kept playing tricks on me. Chubby little pranksters. But I did hear of some area that they kept mentioning, they were scared of some monster and so they stayed away from that area, something called a Drawgur or somesuch, I have no idea what they were talking about.”
Just then you hear some moaning in the distance coming from the passageway to the north (beyond the stairs upward).

Salamir recovers his ock picks from Garth, and moves to the northern tunnel, creeping along it and trying to see or hear what was making the noise. As he goes he places a finger to his lips to call for the others to be quiet a moment.
Salamir goes north up the stairs and is worried about fixing his hat just so, the proper angle to jaunt it on his head when he almost slips and falls, making a good bit of noise in the process. Garth follows northward and hides a smile in his hands as he tries to sneak along as well. Salamir is in the lead and sees the edge of a large pit, bends down, and sees a goblin lying at the base of it, now awake and moaning. Tark looks up at you, surprised at seeing you, says “I feel terrible. My leg hurts! Did you meet Sawtooth? He’s mean, isn’t he?” He goes back to moaning softly, somehow it makes him feel better.

Hlin follows along and looks at her armor and gives up any pretense of stealth. Seeing Tark she throws down her rope. "Oy Tark are you strong enough to hold onto the rope?"
Javier assists Hiln to the best of his ability. (Strength isn’t his thing but maybe his telekinesis can help give him a boost) “Umm Tark? Do you need treatment?”
he listens to the moaning in the distance. “Perhaps that’s the final challenge this cave has to offer… that monster.” He says nervously.
Salamir accepts Garth's offer of help with the heavy locks.
