Adjin appears straightforward to you, very rattled and telling the truth. She is saying everything she knows. She knows that the book that was stolen is important, but she does not know the contents or subject matter.
Garth :
Sherriff Redd seems to be telling you the truth. He guesses that they are in the Caverms, but doesn’t know for sure, both times they were seen fleeing in that direction. One of the acolytes thought that he saw a couple of the orcs in front riding some strange wolf like creature, but he wasn’t sure, it was dark. He has his deputy fetch the mounts for you. You have never heard of this black book before, you don’t know what they are referencing.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"Regardless of how sure we are that they went to the Caverns, we have no better idea right now. We either wait for daylight to track them properly, or take a chance on the Caverns", he adds to the conversation.
"I would rather do something than nothing right now", he says with a smile.
Time is passing. Jaggon rushes to get the horses for you, in case you wish to take them. It is very dark, Redd says to you “It sounds like most of them were on foot, moving fast. They have about a thirty minute or so lead on you, but I bet that you could catch them if you leave now.” He points to the road to the north out of Glitter Creek, leading to the Canyons.

Garth nods, "Aye. A chase it is then! There'll be little chance of tracking, but you are right: If they are on foot we have a chance of catching them." He stands and moves in the direction of the horses, pausing when he gets to them. "Of course, I'm not much of a rider. Somebody else should lead -- horses are happy to follow each other, that's been my experience."
He turns to Jaggon, "Which is the most docile one?" When the deputy points it out, he tries to sooth it and then vault into the saddle.
"That's the spirit", Salamir says raising a fist in support of Garth's decision, and moving to mount his own horse.
"Not exactly born to the saddle myself, but happy to lead if there are no other volunteers", he adds wheeling his horse around to see what the others are doing. Often mere confidence is enough to mask a lack of ability, but he is not entirely sure that extends to riding horses. He's offered now though, so no going back.
Javier carefully but adeptly gets into his horse. “I’m not the most skilled rider so I’ll stay close to the rear. I can certainly keep up at the very least.”
Belkaria grabs hold of the reins of the largest of the beasts and says a few soft words to the animal. After caressing the nose and bringing it around, she mounts the horse and brings it up alongside Sal. "Well come on then! Let's get this show on the road." She kicks her horse and leads off, expecting the rest to follow as she heads towards the canyons, using her darkvision to see.
You mount your horses and begin to ride, those in front with Darkvision looking out carefully for the footing of the horses. After about 10-15 minutes, you see some light ahead, what appears to be torch light, they flicker in and out of sight. They are indeed heading toward the caverns.
The terrain starts to get trickier, rock that is unsteady and small paths. You continue to follow the flickering lights in the distance. At a point however, you collectively decide that you dismount, worried of injuring the feet of the horses or risk of suffering a fall and injury. You did make good time initially and they seem to be not too far ahead. You step through a narrow passage and unfortunately have to leave the horses behind.
There is an outcropping of rock overhead. You walk forward and from behind a boulder 10 feet above you, an orc steps out, holding a torch. He shouts down, "Out on a night stroll ... or have you come to play with the Orcs?" He holds his hand up in a gesture of parley.

Salamir leaves his friends engage in conversation with the Orcs, and focusses his attentions on the possibility of other Orcs closing in. Where there is one, there is likely more, and this seemed like a distraction to him.
He slowly moves to find cover as his eyes and ears scan for other threats.
Three more orcs step forward from behind openings in the passages in front of you, and three more appear walking up behind you, holding great axes. They stand guard and remain quiet. The one above you speaks again and says “My name is Norak. You will want to speak to my brother Nar, he is our leader, the leader of the Red Wolf Clan. He has the answers you seek, he would want to speak with you. If you come with us, you can talk to him.” One of the orcs from behind taps Salamir on the shoulder and gives him a big grin, points forward, to the way that Norak is leading.

(( Would fix all the typos, except I don't want to mess with the roll ))
(Id also like to see if I’d know anything about the book or what the orcs might be after. Religión or history it’s the same modifier: 19 )

Garth squints up at the orc and nods, "Aye, lad. We seem to have misplaced a few things, " he says. "A priest and all manner of strange books."
"Would you be able to help us with that, by any strange chance? You see...we'd kind of like them back ... undamaged."

Salamir turns to look the Orc square in the chest, then slowly raises his head to see the Orc's face, and it's big grin.
"Sounds lovely", he says backing away. "Let's talk, talking is good. Yes, just talk", he rambles on.
