Javier smiles with a chuckle as he nods affirmatively as he takes a big gulp “I can handle it. Especially if you don’t think it’s too bad yet. Best be saving your spells… besides my instructors said that moments like these are what will make me more adequate“
he turns to look at the goblin and sighs “killing him isn’t our job, and feels senseless… perhaps we can get him to show us where their base is? Keep him captive for now then release him later as part of a fair trade.” He says as he hops onto the wagon.
Nick watches all of this play out from the top of the wagon and doesn't say a word either way. Burt on the other hand, has definite thoughts about it. "We hired you to keep us safe with this load of cargo to Glitter Creek, not to go hunting for goblin hideouts. These creatures are evil. There's no doubting that. Let's get on board and finish our trip. You there, Garth, you look mighty handy with that bow. Do you and Salamir want to ride with me in the front wagon? The rest of you can ride in the rear wagon with Nick."
Nick finally speaks up and says "Maybeyou ought to handle the reins Miss, with the way you handled those mules...." he looks at Belkaria. Suddenly, Burt walks matter of factly over to the unconscious goblin. As you watch him now outside of a tavern in Norwick, he has the walk of a prior soldier and handles the old rusty sword well. "We don't have any time for this." he says as he plunges it into the goblin's chest. The goblin stops moving. He holds his chest at the site of the arrow wound as he does it. "Let's be on our way." He swings up into the first wagon, takes the reins and shows "Giddeyap!" This is frontier land, and there is little mercy for bandits in these times....
You finally arrive at Glitter Creek and stop at Hawhammer Outfitters and Feed to deliver the goods and get your pay. The man’s name is Duke Bergen. Duke is a big man with an eye patch and wears tan pants with a faded blue shirt. He is wearing a striking leather vest with bone buttons. You tell him of an ambush that you had to fight off, a band of goblins. He thanks you and gives you 10 g.p. each.
Duke says that he has a shipment of feed to come in again, heading back to the town of Norwick, where you came from, in about 2-3 days and he would like to hire you again. You agree to the terms and head to the local tavern and inn for some hot food, a bath and a room.He would like to talk to you some more, but he needs to focus on the shipment and he asks for your pardon.
You find a modest place called the Blue Mountain Inn and Tavern, however the prices are twice what is charged in Norwick. The owner, Vanessa Shadee, says that’s the best prices you’ll find in a mining town, everything costs more. You decide that you want the room and as you walk through the tavern area you see a wanted poster nailed up.It says “Wanted, Dead or Alive, Payroll Bandits, Reward 100 gp, see Sheriff Redd." Missy at the bar waves to you, calling you over. "Welcome y'all, come on in!"
Missy tends the bar and serves at the Blue Mountain Inn and Tavern, and she shows you to a table in the middle of the room. It’s getting on toward late afternoon / early evening now. She looks you over and says “What can I get you, you look like you’ve had quite a day? Are you from around here?” She looks occasionally at Belkaria taking in her features, clearly not used to seeing Tieflings in these parts. “We have some rabbit stew cooking tonight with potatoes, onions and carrots. On tap we have some Haymaker Ale, Glitter Vine wine. What can I get you? I assume you’ll be staying here tonight?” She encourages you to sit down and get comfortable, which doesn’t sound too bad after the day you’ve had.
Salamir watches as Burt executes the goblin. He takes a deep breath in, then lets it out slowly before leaning down and untying the rope that had bound the unfortunate goblin and looping it up.
"It seems justice is swift out here", he says absently to the others as he collects his gear from the second wagon and moves it to the first, jumping up just as Burt flicks the reins.
Glitter Creek
Salamir walks in to the tavern and looks across to Missy as she calls over to them, tipping his hat to her. He allows her to show them to a table then places his hat down and takes a seat. Looking around the tavern, his eyes fix briefly on the wanted poster before coming to rest on Missy as he listens to all her questions.
"Good day Miss. It has been a day spent on the road, so yes I am sure we could all do with some hot food and a few drinks. The stew sounds most suitable along with the Glitter Vine Wine for myself", he says giving her a warm smile.

... Javier's face shows disgust and confusion, "Justice? How can an execution like that be considered Justice? I guess I really do have much to learn..."
Once at Glitter Creek, in the tavern, Javier sits at the bar and smiles at Missy, "I'll just have a water with my stew and yes, I think the lot of us are staying here for the next few nights if you've got the accommodations available. Also a quick question, that wanted poster, anyone try to take the job or is it brand new?"
he plays with his hands before taking out his book and flipping to the very back of it, for those who're perceptive or like to snoop he's not overtly trying to hide it, but I'm guessing you'd have to have a decent perception to read his handwriting lol:

Garth's expression mirrors Javier's. Justice is one of the most comment excuses for revenge and cowardice by the weak: A much-loved rallying-cry, until it was applied to them. Burt had mismanaged the situation and was lucky to be alive. The cowardly attack on the unconscious goblin was the exact opposite of what Burt claimed it to be. As the wagons resume their journey he scorns Burt's suggestion that he travel in the lead wagon, instead opting to do what he should have been doing in the first place: scouting ahead as stealthily as he can. His eyesight may not be what it once was, but he was good at not being seen, most times at least.
When the time comes for payment, Garth stares at the man, then at Burt and then the gold. He is reluctant to take it, but eventually does so only because failing to take it might be a reflect well on a man he now despises. Anyone who takes a life so easily can not be trusted.
Upon entering the inn Garth orders an ale then sits near Javier, raising his mug and, after a glance at Salamir, looks in the direction of Burt. "To justice," he says. he takes a long, slow first mouthful then wipes his beard with his sleeve and settles down, happy to listen to the discussion of the bounty. Mines were complex things, but losing a payroll could easily lead to disaster. Idly, he wonders how big the payroll was, given the reward.
Belkaria nods at Nick as he mentions she handle the mules, though finds it odd he even does since she is obviously doing so. She waits silently as the rest of the actions play out.
Knowing the state of her coin purse, she happily accepts the money and the poster stating a reward of 100 gold, definitely catches her attention as they walk into the Inn. She notices the bartender give her the once over, and she smiles. She's used to this kind of attention, and it usually helps get her what she wants. "Why thank you, I'd love some rabbit stew and I would also like to try the Glitter Vine wine" she winks at Salamir, "sounds tasty."
As Javier questions Missy, Belkaria adds, "Yes, where might we find Sheriff Redd at this hour?"
Hlin says a silent prayer over the dead goblin. So that was fight. Got a bit more than I bargain for, but I ready for the next one. At Glittercreek she accepts the coins. At the tavern she stands eyeing the wanted poster and nods to herself. Now this is what I came, best keep and eye out. She winces a bit in pain, but confidently sits at a nearby table "Thanks Missy I could use grub"
"Thank you dearie, I'll have that right out for you!" she says with a smile. Within a few minutes she swings back by the table with the stew and a glass of the Glitter Vine wine, a red blend with earthy tones, and a soupçon of cherry flavor. It is delicious.
Javier :
"I'll bring you the stew and your water, I think you'll like it! Let me know if you want anything else hon. I don't think that anyone has applied for that Payroll Bandit job, but ask Sheriff Redd, he'll know, I'm not sure.". She tries looking over your shoulder at the list, but without looking nosy, just out of curiosity.
Garth :
"Here's an ale sir, would you like anything else?" She does a double take at you. "Are you a miner, by chance?"
Belkaria :
"I'll bring you that right out. You'll find Sheriff Redd at the jail, but at this hour he may not be meeting with people, I would try there in the morning, first thing."
Hlin :
Missy nods to you and brings out a full bowl of the stew and some of the ale. She nods to you and smiles. "We've got the best grub in Glitter Creek."
As you are eating your stew and enjoying your beverages, you overhear some patrons talking about hold ups along the road recently. Roll perception checks please to see what else you might hear...
But just then, a half drunk miner sits down next to you and introduces himself. “Callz me Jitters sur and mum. What’s your business in Glitter Creek?”

Javier smiles pleasantly at Missy, "Thank you very much, we'll be sure to stop by in the morning...." he begins to eat his food, doing so in a very polite and controlled way even though he's starving and still in some pain. He pats his mouth dry with a handkerchief as he listens to what's going on around the tavern (Perception: 23 Passive is 13)
he looks towards the drunk man, "We've just come off the road, we were hired to protect some wagons for the Outfitters.... uh are you okay?"

Hmmm... Belkaria wonders if she hears about holdups along the road?
Perception 7
She turns towards the man that joins them, looking directly at him with her intense eyes, "Why hello Jitters, you can call me Belkaria. What news do you have of Glitter Creek? We have just arrived."
Salamir thanks Missy and swirls the wine around in the glass before taking a sip and placing it down on the table. He tucks into the stew, not realising how hungry he is until he takes the first bite.
His ears prick up at the mention of the hold ups on the road, and he tilts his head slightly to better hear what is being said.
As Jitters takes a seat he turns to regard the miner. "Greetings Jitters", he says simply after Javier answers their question and Belkaria asks one in return.
He was not familiar with this mining town or it's people and their ways. Ways some might consider barbaric. His companions for example, had scoffed at his use of the term justice, but most places in the world define their own justice and it doesn't always correlate to what is right and just. He knew the way the world worked, and he was learning from experience how to navigate the ebb and flow of power and authority. The fact he was here at all, coming from such humble beginnings was testament to that.
Anyway, when confronted with an unfamiliar place he had found the best course of action was to listen and learn, so he leans back in his seat and does just that. Listens and tries to get a read on people, like this Jitters...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Javier describes their recent job, Jitters says in a conspiratorial voice "Say, if ye are a bunch of guards, ya may want to take a looks for the payroll bandits. They stole the RJ mining payroll and theez miners are in fits they is. Big reward." He looks at Javier and says "I'm just fine lad, just a wee bit thirsty."
Missy smiles down at Garth and says, "I could tell, something about your manner and your hands. Welcome to Glitter Creek."
Just then old Jitters looks up at her and the table, says "Are wee haven another round? Hey Missy, another round for me and me lads and lassies. You get this round, I'll get the next."
Missy starts heading back to the bar and Jitters says "Me pals are getting this one and makes it the good ale and frothy."
When Missy returns to the table, she asks Jitters, "Hey Jitters, have you seen Dirak recently, nobody else has." He replies "Not I haven't luv, he left for that mine out Forbidden Caverns way. Told him it were a bad idea. Haven't seen him in 3 weeks. Last time I seenum he had them funny yellow warts."
Javier you overhear the most. At a table nearby, two old crusty miners were talking about the nearby caverns, said that rumor has it that there is a cavern that has a dangerous ghost, something called a Hugr (who-gar) Durgru. Not wise to look for them. Some appear as an old lady, other as a faceless form in a black cape, hooded. Its when it gets hold of ya with those lone bony arms that you go mad!
At another table you overhear talk about a wizard that used to be in the area, Arzak. Once there was a cult that lived in the caverns led by some wizard named Arzak. Nice chap with kids. He would visit town from time to time, go to the big temple mostly. He was tight with the Shadow Guardians. He had a temple in one of them caves and they supposedly worshipped some crazy bird called a Phoenix. All nice folks though, haven't seen them around in some time.
Jitters says in passing to you as he's turned to you, "Ole Dirak was a good fella and he could find a strike, that's for sure. Never did see him without his brown hat on... he must be bald as a cucumber under there. He had some funny warts on his face the last time I saw him..."
Salamir your take on Jitters is that he is an old, retired miner that is good with gab and trying to talk strangers into free drinks. He does like his two carbon bits and hasn't met a drink he doesn't like... You overhear some rumors from the tables nearby as well.
At a different table, you hear talk about the recent payroll job. Some say that little green stinkers robbed the payroll. Goblins must be back if they are. Thought we got rid of em after the goblin wars. We sure could use those Shadow Guardians again...
The miners sitting at the tables around you seem very unhappy, on edge. A group of bandits held up at least one payroll coach. The miners are angry and the company needs to pay up or the miners will quit. You get a feeling of unrest from the miners around the room..
Javier shifts his notebook over to his side and takes a few key notes on what he’s heard. He excuses himself from the rest of the group. Before walking towards the table that mentioned the Hugr “Erhm excuse me, I couldn’t help but overhear hehe but the entity you described just now the Hugr Durgru was it? Are those tales new or… has this been an issue for you all for a while? It’s undead yes?”
"Thanks for the grub Missy" Hlin devours her food with gusto. She perks up when Jitters mentioned a job. "I am interested, now is Dirak a miner and why would he go to the Forbidden Caverns?"
Belkaria is oblivious to the conversations going on around her, her mind on the payroll bandits, wondering how much or how good the information would be coming from Sheriff Redd. She listens to Jitters and Missy converse as she enjoys her stew, and once Missy heads off for another round, she asks Jitters, "So what's going on with your friend, Dirak? And did you say an old mine out Forbidden Caverns way? Why is that a place you would warn against? Like I said, we're new in town and we appreciate getting to know what is going on here."
She twitches in a chair a bit, the back of it not accustomed to ones with tails, and is surprised as Javier gets up and heads to another group. Unsure of what is going on, she attempts to listen in. As she does, she also waits for Missy to come back, "Missy, are there possible rooms for us to stay here? Hopefully enough for each of us?"
Salamir looks around the room, his keen eyes and ears taking it all in. Jitters wasn't kidding when he said the miner's were having fits, their displeasure was palpable. It made for a good bargaining point if they did decide to talk to the Sheriff about the payroll bandits. Surely it was worth more to keep the miner's working and not rebelling.
He smiles as Jitter's works the table, blagging himself a drink. He seems harmless enough. And this talk of Dirak was intriguing as well. A missing person case, but was it worth any coin. Mind you, sometimes reputation was worth more than coin. And what was the deal with the yellow warts?
He nurses his wine, savouring the taste of it and not wanting to drink too much right now. Let the other's in the tavern take their fill and loosen their tongues. His companions were doing a good job of asking questions at the moment, so just stick to the game plan, watch and listen.
The couple of salty miners sitting at the table draw up and recoil from you slightly, and they grow very quiet. When you mention the Hugr Durgru, their eyes go wide and they look positively scared, looking to another table to move to. "I.. I... uh, we don't know nothing about that mister. Some matters are best not to be poked into, takin my meaning."
Hlin and Belkaria :
Jitters eyes sparkle when you mention Dirak. "Ole Dirak always had an eye for a good strike of gold. He used to work for the RJ mining company, but he struck out on his own, onto something big he said. Some say that he bought a map off an ole fella named Fritz to a lost mine that was very promising... hee hee! Very promising indeed!"
Missy replies to Belkaria when she's moving in and among the tables, "There are rooms available dear, 1 gp per night, room and board. Sorry its so high dear, but it is what they think the customers will pay." She shoots a dirty look over at Vanessa and then catches herself, forcing a smile and keeps moving.
