He takes a step back from the group, "Oh, my apologies, I didn't mean to disturb you or anything... I'm sorry it's just that we're adventurers who are new in town, figured I'd ask, but it's okay. Thanks" he smiles at the group before returning to his companions.
Salamir leans in as well, placing his hands on the table and looking to Jitters.
"Seems to me if you truly want to find this friend of yours, talking to this Fritz fellow would be the place to start. They may have another copy of this map, or at least remember it. Of course three weeks to be missing is a long time. You said he went towards the Forbidden Caverns. An ominous name for a place if ever there was. You seem to be avoiding questions about them. Why is that?", he says locking eyes with the miner.
"Fritz you say, eh? If you say Dirak is missing maybe we could help? Could you direct us to this Fritz to get an idea where this mine is?" Belkaria turns to Hlin, "Who knows, maybe it is even related to the payroll thing? Doesn't hurt to get info anyways." She sits back, trying to enjoy her wine but all the talk is interrupting her.
When Missy comes back with the good news there is room, but bad news they are costly, Belkaria thanks Missy, then leans over to Salamir, "Hey my charismatic friend, what do you say we head over to Miss Vanessa over there and see if we can negotiate those rates down? I don't know about you, but if we're planning on staying here a bit as we figure things out... this place will run me dry."

Javier can’t quite tell is they are holding back, their fear seems genuine. They nod and smile, decide to move to a smaller quieter table. They look the group over with interest, but remain quiet otherwise.
Jitters smiles at Hlin and Belkaria, saying "Dirak is a skilled miner, I have a feeling in me bones that he's gonna strike it rich. But I haven't seen him aroun in a few weeks, not like im at all. The sheriff will have some leads for y'all, I bet. You should go to see him in the morning. He'll be down at the jail I speck." He downs his ale and then looks over at Salamir and says "I ain't avoiding nuthin. Hey, you guys want another round?"
Just then, a female elf walks into the tavern, Jitters stands and says "Say, it's Shela .... scoome gents." He gets up and heads over to the shapely elf that just walked in. Along the way he grabs a mug of ale from Missy as she is working.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Salamir turns to Belkaria as she leans in to talk to him.
“Slippery fellow that Jitters, not sure why he is avoiding talk of those caverns, but the sheriff should be more forthcoming on the morning. In the meantime you are right, we need to see what can be done to keep our coin pouches heavy”
He pushes his chair back and stands up, grabbing his hat and placing it very particularly on his head.
”Shall we”, he says to the Tiefling, ready to go and see Miss Vanessa.
Javier says softly, “looks like he’s not the only one who’s slippery or hiding something. We’ll just have to wait and see what this quest brings us huh?” He plays with his hands as he finishes his food “so uh what brings the rest of you on this job? Money? Fame?” He looks at those who haven’t left the table yet.
Hlin thinks upon this question for Javier for a bit. "I came to test myself and to find adventure away from the cloistered temple of Sehanine Moonbow".

Javier, between the emblem on Hlin's shield and what she has said, you recognize that she is referencing Sehanine Moonbow, the elvish god of the moon, dreams and of heaven. She is usually depicted as a 5 foot youthful appearing elf wearing a diaphanous gown, that looks like a shimmering moonbeam. He shield emblem is a depiction of the moon and the symbol of Sehanine. She is known to hate the undead and necromancy, and quite skilled in the use of illusion.
The evening wears on. 3 dwarves with a fiddle, clarinet and oddly a set of bagpipes plays a tune around the fire, the fiddler singing a catchy little tune, Diggy Diggy Hole. Other miners start clanking their mugs together, joining in where they can, and the mood lightens in the room, a little bit.
Brothers of the mine rejoice! Swing, swing, swing with me Raise your pick and raise your voice! Sing, sing, sing with me Down and down into the deep Who knows what we'll find beneath? Diamonds, rubies, gold and more Hidden in the mountain store
Born underground, suckled from a teat of stone Raised in the dark, the safety of our mountain home Skin made of iron, steel in our bones To dig and dig makes us free Come on brothers sing with me!
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole
The sunlight will not reach this low Deep, deep in the mine Never seen the blue moon glow Dwarves won't fly so high Fill a glass and down some mead! Stuff your bellies at the feast! Stumble home and fall asleep Dreaming in our mountain keep
Born underground, grown inside a rocky womb The earth is our cradle; the mountain shall become our tomb Face us on the battlefield; you will meet your doom We do not fear what lies beneath We can never dig too deep
I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, diggy, diggy hole I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole Diggy, diggy hole, digging a hole

As the music ends, you see old Jitters stumble out of the tavern, off to who knows where, after Shela leaves. Hlin and Belkaria, (passive perception), you hear two more tidbits that night during the conversations around the room. Hlin, you overhear that the miner payroll was rumored to be 800 g.p. Belkaria, you overhear that there is a faint trail off the Northwest road that leads to the Forbidden Caverns. The start of it is along the creek that flows under the stone bridge.
As the last of the patrons start to slowly file out of the tavern and "Last call!" is heard, you see Vanessa Shadee eyeing you, wondering if you are indeed going to stay the night and settle up your tab.

Hlin nods at Vanessa and settles her tab and payment for room for the night "Here you the gold for the room" She will then take the key and make her way to the room for the night. Hlin spends 10 minutes taking off her armor. She spends a moment in silence praying and then heads to bed.
Belkaria winks at Salamir, "Nice hat. Yeah, let's do this." As they head towards the table, she get's distracted when the dwarves start playing and singing a tune. Stopping to enjoy the music, she almost forgets the plan. Once they finish up, Belkaria nudges Salamir, "Shall we?" and she heads towards Vanessa.
"May we have a seat?" (If she says yes, great, if not, she remains standing) she then assists Salamir on their negotiations.
Garth nods, waving at the empty seats. "May as well."
"I was planning to get a meal if the lad here doesn't keel over," he says, nodding td Javier as he hurriedly finishes his meal. "Then a room; If it helps the negotiations, add me to any deal you might make. Bulk discount 'n all."
"As to why I'm here? When a mine goes bad, bad things happen. I'd as soon avoid that if possible. Bad for reputation, bad for business and bad for everyone nearby."

Salamir joins Belkaria heading towards Vanessa, giving her a sweeping bow, removing his hat as he does so.
”Good evening Miss Vanessa. We wanted to come over and thank you for your hospitality this evening, and perhaps discuss the room situation”.
”As you are possibly aware our purpose in town is to ensure that the miners”, he pauses to motion to those miners still in the tavern, “are able to receive the pay they deserve for the hard work they do. The same pay of course, that they tend to spend in large part at your establishment”.
He throws her a smile, “I expect you are waiting for me to get to the point. Well, my companions and I will likely be in town for some time ensuring the payroll makes it, and likely looking to resolve the issue of the payroll bandits for good. With the current cost of room and board, the coin we will make on such an endeavour is much reduced. We were hoping to come to an agreement with you for a discount, seeing as you will surely profit far more from our service to the town, and in fact if the miners leave and the mine has to close…”, he leaves the thought that her business might have to close hang. “You appear to be a shrewd businesswoman. What say you?”.

he then turns to Garth,
“I won’t keel over just yet! Hehe but I’m glad to have you here.. sound like you have some applicable experience to what we might be dealing with in the future.”
Vanessa looks down her long nose at you as you begin, thinking Ok, what is this one’s story.. but after you explain in convincing fashion and you begin taking about the payroll problem, you see the cogs in her head start to turn and actually consider you.
“I see. I suppose if you are doing the town a service and looking into the payroll matter I can make an exception, and I rarely make exceptions. Fine, 5 silver pieces a night for each of you. I think you will find the room very comfortable. We appreciate your help. Missy will get you set up with your room. Goodnight…” And she turns to leave the room.
