“They say ‘bugs good food’”, Bosko explains to Alyndra.
”These bugs big, you really eat? Where come from?”, he asks the toucan, a little confused as to how the bird could eat such large bugs in such big swarms.
Markus joins the conversation, amazed by the possibility to communicate with animals: "Ask them if they want to come with us to the shaman. Any bugs on the way is for them !"
« We have now our wounds a bit healed. Let’s push towards the shaman. » says Markus, constantly looking around for new swarm of insects. "I'm sure we could have a short rest at their place"
Alyndra's nose wrinkles as Bosko translates for the toucan, the half elf letting out a chuckle even as she says, "Eugh. For birds maybe."Before nodding as Marcus' speaks up. "Good suggestion."Glancing at Sunita and Lazarus, she asks, "Ready to continue?" Gesturing to the Captain and the way ahead. Keeping a wary eye out for any more bugs or anything else dangerous. Perception:17
The toucan squwks a response to Bosko, then flies off. A few minutes later, the bird appears with three other toucans. They land in a nearby tree, and when you get up to continue along the path, they leave their branches and follow you, flying through the forest in the same direction and staying somewhat close to you overhead. Every once in awhile, you watch them encounter small clouds of bugs (much smaller than what had attacked you), which they feed on with apparent enthusiasm.
Captain Three Earrings remarks on Bosko's ability to speak with the birds and convince them to follow you.
"Now, that is a rather neat trick! I know others who can speak with the animals. I've seen my own crew member Darkarkal speak with the dolphins, but his is taking it to a whole new level. I am impressed, Bosko, you are full of surprises!"
You all continue to trudge your way through the jungle, continuing to climb the trail, which gets quite steep at times. The added exertion from hiking uphill as the temperature continues to rise through the late morning makes for near sweltering conditions inside the heavily forested environment, and you find yourself sweating from the effort.
It is hard to tell when a Bugbear is blushing, being covered in fur, but somehow Bosko made it obvious he was following the compliment from Captain Three Earrings.
"Just something, picked up from friend", he says in response before loping off down the trail, keeping an eye on the toucans as he goes.
The further up the trail they go, the hotter it becomes, until he decides to go looking for a large leaf with which to fan himself as they walk.
"We close? Might want find cave or river, somewhere cool", he suggests.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Smiling at Bosko's reaction to the compliment, Alyndra rubs at a bug bite before purposefully putting her hands in her pockets so not to scratch. At least it didn't hurt. She could handle itchy. It was the heat that she was starting to wonder if she couldn't handle. Hair sticking to the sides of her by now very red face from sun and exertion, the half elf groans at the mere mention of cool. "As much..."She pants and attempts to poorly fan herself, wiping away sweat on her brow with a disgusted grimace before finishing, "As much as I would love to fling myself into a river or lake, water usually means more bugs. Cave sounds nice. Shade. Anything at this point."
The wizard keeps an eye out for anything that might provide their group respite from the heat. Perception:23
(sorry, between work/hotels/family drama, kinda got lost in the sauce.)
Lazarus would have his lute out, mainly trying to focus on it, thumbing at different cords as he feels the heat entering his lungs with each breath. "Wish...I had...I cooling...spell...right about now...." He would continue to strum at his lute to try and get the heat off peoples minds.

As you continue to trudge through the forest under the rising heat and humidity, the captain informs you that there are no caves on this route, and that you'll just have to press ahead. Of course, you're welcome to stop and rest in whatever shade you find, but the more you stop, the greater the chance you'll all be caught out here in the jungle at night, which Three Earrings says is not here preference.
Midday wears on and the temperatures climb to sweltering levels, although occasional sea breezes occasionally waft through small gaps in the canopy and proved some cooling. During these times, you're able to catch amazing views of the expanse of the deep green waters of the Lucian Ocean and some of the islands to the south off far below. This gives you scale of the elevation that you've gained throughout the morning.
"Beautiful, isn't it? This is my favorite view of the ocean from up here. Feel free to take a moment to enjoy it, we just have another hour or two to go."
If the group takes a rest, Markus will work the full hour on a new tiny tinker, a small mechanical fan attached to his hat. The thing makes a faint noise and refresh Markus face. "Ahhh this is much better now.."
Magical Tinkering - TCoE, pg. 11: Imbue a Tiny nonmagical object with a magical property of your choice: 5ft. radius light, up to 6 second long recorded message, emits odor or nonverbal sound, static visual effect including up to 25 words of text. You can affect a maximum of 3 objects at a time.
As they climb Bosko keeps an eye out for any large leaves that could potentially be used as fans, or even a hat. He looks for enough for them all.
“If you say must reach where going before dark, maybe best push on”, he says in reply to the captains assertion they should try avoid being in the jungle at night.
Survival: 17+5=22 (to find natural ways to cool them all)
Assuring the Captain and Bosko that, "I have no wish to experience what night life is like outside of the port town. Let's press on."She still welcomed anything that would cool them down, currently using mage hand to fan herself and then Lazarus as she walked. Not having paid much attention to what Markus had been fiddling with when they had stopped earlier, Alyndra watches with amazement at what he had managed to make. "Elminster's Sweet Cheeks, you could make a pretty copper selling those off in this heat Markus." Seeing Sunita offer him coin she then asks, "Wait, are you?"
"I hope I don't sweat through my spellbook."The half elf complains, checking on said item to make sure before pausing as she looks up at the tabaxi's words, mouth open slightly as she takes in the view. She wasn't a huge fan of how high up they were, but the reward was enough. "Gorgeous." Alyndra agreed with the Captain before closing her eyes as a cool breeze washed over them briefly.
Markus refuses the gold pieces in a nice gesture. "You don't need to pay me Sunita. I'll make another one for me next time we have a bit of time. You are paying enough by giving me extra protection !", he says with a large smile. He then nods at the wizard, "No, I do not make my friends pay. We in this together."
With his natural survival skills and his knowledge of the forest, Bosko is able to find some exceptionally large palm leaves, which he plucks from the plants and distributes to each of you. You can then take turns waving them at each other, even as you walk, which offers at least some sort of cooling effect and gentle respite from the heat.
In another half mile, the trail stops climbing, and then begins to traverse near the top of a broad ridge, gently rolling with shallow ups and downs, then travels for another mile or so, but since you're not ascending anymore, your general level of exertion drops, and you find yourselves not as hot as before. Walking along the faint trail, and occasionally looking at the views out over the ocean, you continue to make your way along the ridge, until you spot a small wooden hut up ahead.
The toucan squawks a response to Bosko.
