"I am quite in favor of smashing, however, if we insist on finesse then that works as well I suppose. I shall inspire whoever does the smashing or finessing!" Paca uses Bardic Inspiration on Praxius or Rae, whoever tries to open it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"All this talk of squireship and betrayal is a bit too much for me," Rae relents, "If only I still had my dojo back at the Zora Domain; things were so much simpler then."
When asked to pick the lock, Rae does as she's told. She procures a lockpick from her pouch and begins to work away at the lock. She jokes, "Hopefully I don't have to end up smashing this one too."
Rae, you move up to the lock and sit in front of it for a moment. Looking at the actual make of the padlock itself, it is a heavy iron padlock of incredible craftmanship. Even just looking at it you can tell alot of work went into making this a nearly unpickable lock. The tumblers inside are weighted and judging by the size of the locks housing, you feel comfortable in thinking this lock is going to be rather tricky.
Taking a breath you pull out your lockpick and insiert it into the keyhole, finding the first tumbler you gauge the pressure required to move it into position. You have to put a fair bit of force into your finger to press the tumbler into its right position and search for the familiar snap you would feel when moving a tumbler into place.....but it never comes. Whoever made this padlock had the knowledge to mask the tumblers position, in an effort to prevent just what you are doing.
SO you sit back for a moment and take a breath, you are going to have to put your full concentration into this. With no sign that the tumblers are aligned and the possibility of them reseting if you incorrectly move even one. Your companions stand back and let you go to work.
You dive in and move the first tumbler, using your own knowledge of locks to estimate where the first tumbler should be positioned. Ensuring to apply just enough pressure to keep it in place while you work on the others, you move on to the second and repeat the same process. With the third you find yourself feeling a little more comfortable and quickly move it into position, this is where normally the locks you have picked before would open. However this padlock, being nearly two inches in width is almost certain to have atleast six tumblers.
A single bead of sweat rolls down your brow, you move the fourth into place......SNAP.
You freeze, feeling your lockpick move a little further in.....you are uncertain if it was lockpick that snapped or perhaps the Padlock was finally showing some sign of defeat....SO you press forward and much to your surprise. You find the fifth tumbler, it wasnt your lockpick. Now your confidence is at an all time high, you feel like a professional thief cracking a safe. You align the fifth....and the lock falls open, sliding off the metal doors and landing just in front of you with a dull thud.
Knight Feld cant help but to applaud you. "Well Done Rae.....I've known many lockpicks who wouldnt even try to open that."
Theo whistles. “Wow, I’m surprised that worked. I would have gone for Praxius just knocking the door down, or slicing the lock off. Well, let’s see what it was guarding!” Inside, Theo is thinking What could this be hiding? Could it be… no. It couldn’t be. But what if…
Praxius smiles at Theo, "But it is such a nice lock, it would have been a shame to break, if it is even breakable. It was fine work Rae".
He looks at the lock that is now in front of the Zora.
"Perhaps it is too nice, I felt...some form of enchantment. I think that whoever holds the key might know the lock is now open. And with this much care to keep people out, we should assume more defences lie within. I suggest caution".
"Or if not, let me take the lead", he adds with a broad smile.
"Yeah. They were a cagey bunch when I worked for them. Always secrets. Too much security in servant areas and little security in personal areas.", Quiggley says as he prepares for whatever is behind the door.
“Worked for who, Quiggley?” Theo asks after hearing what he said, immediately becoming suspicious. “If you lost your memory, how do you know who you’ve worked for in the past?”
"Well if you all have a bad feeling about this then let's move forward as quietly as we can and ready ourselves for whatever is beyond the door. Lizi.... do you sense anything beyond?"Paca will wait for Lizi to answer and also work on his stealth walk... creeping back and forth being careful not to make noise.
Rae wiped away the sweat forming on her forehead and looked at her handiwork with delight. The zora was well aware of the challenge the lock had posed and relished in her achievement. When Knight Feld and the others complimented her she joked, "Eh, no biggy."
She saw her party ready to make their descent into the unknown and turned to ask Knight Feld, "Any ideas what's down here? I'm sure our party can better help your cause if we knew what you were searching for exactly."
Quiggley casts Light on his spell focus crystal that hangs from his necklace to shed light.
"I worked for the inn in exchange for my stay there just prior to meeting all of you. Minor pest control work, but good call Theo! When I don't know who you guys are anymore we will have a time period for how long my memory is. Not that I will know it.", Quiggley answers Theo, then playfully, "Hi I'm Quiggley, sorry if you know me and I don't recognize you I have a memory issues. If you know me I would be grateful if you told me how!"
“Ha ha, very funny Quiggley,” Theo says sarcastically, pulling his hood up on his elven cloak. “Though before this I haven’t had the chance of meeting you.”
Smiling delightedly Quiggley replies, "Then we will have to for go Chance." Trying not to laugh at his own bad humor Quiggley then asks, "We have proceeded through the surprise of the suddenly and unexpectedly dangerous situation before us by masking it with poorly veiled humor, are we ready to open the mystery wrapped in an enigma, that someone tried to hide by blowing it up, that is before us?"
Praxius nods and follows Theo through the door, moving carefully but with a grin on his face, his hand involuntarily going to the hilt of his sword.
Just as he does so, he gets a familiar sharp sensation behind his eyes, and his vision alters to highlight any magical items and spells around him.
Action: Magical Awareness - Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any spell or magic item within 60 ft, of you that isn’t behind total cover. When you sense a spell, you learn which school of magic it belongs to. Stealth: 15+6=21
Paca, Lizi is noticably very calm. She is perched on your shoulder looking into the looming darkness that descends the staircase you have opened. "Paca.....Something feels oddly familiar about this place."
Quiggley, you too get a strange sense of familiarity from this place. Even more so as your party descends the staircase.
Knight Feld instructs the soldiers to stay behind and accompanies you. "If Im honest there is alot in this city Im not familiar with, My work as a Knight takes me all over Hyrule. I rarely have a chance to explore any one place in particular."
Once the entire party enters through the large doors, they shut behind. Barring off any exit. Luckily Quiggley had the foresight to cast Light so you are not left in total darkness, you find yourselves on individual steps of the staircase that descends beyond the light cast by Quiggley, surroudned by old stone walls that look far older than anything you have seen in the city.
You all feel a cold chill creep up your spine in unison, there isnt something right about this place. There is a sense that you shouldnt be here....yet.
However the way back is now blocked so you have no choice but to press forward, and press forward you do. FOllowing the staircase as it descends 100 feet, then 200 feet, you past the 300 foot mark. All the while Paca and Quiggley keep mentioning how they have a strange sense of familiarity that only grows the further you descend.
Paca, when your party passes the 400 foot mark of this staircase. You notice a very familiar symbol etched into one of the stones that comprise the walls, You do a double take of it as you didnt expect to see this symbol so far from your homeland. It is the symbol of Kokiri, an etching of your emerald. A very real sense of urgency creeps through you, you feel your body grow lighter at the realization. There is only one reason you would see this marking so deep underground, beneath Hyrule city.
The Hero of Time was a Kokiri.
Praxius, your sword begins to hum and you get a very real sense of magic seeping through the air. Quiggley your light immediately snuffs out, casting all of you in a darkness so black, you cant even see your hands.
Something lingers beneath, Something unwelcoming.

"I may be stating the obvious, but trouble is coming", Praxius says as the light goes out and his sword starts to hum.
He focusses his other senses trying to hear anything approaching as he makes his way carefully to the front of the group, making sure the others are safely behind him.
A chill goes up Theo’s back, shaking him to his core. “Are you guys getting a weird feeling, kind of like a chill?” he asks. “Something feels really off. I don’t think we’re meant to be here right now. I feel that this place is important, but I’m not so sure we should be here right now. Plus, we need to worry about Reli and Verik possibly being a traitor. So, uh, I think we should leave this place…” he says quietly but quickly.
Praxius stares into the darkness and as his eyes adjust he sees the gleaming red eye of a Shade staring back at him, the threat emanating from it almost palpable.
The sword he has carried for decades, that has protected him for that time by warning him of danger, was giving off a different kind of warning right now. He was certain that any kind of menacing behaviour would end in his demise.
”I think you are right”, he replies to Theo. “Move quickly, and make no threatening move”, he adds motioning the others onwards, keeping himself between the Shade and the others, barely even daring to breath himself.
