"His only vision that I recall was about Lyvander and I haven't heard if it came true or even really what it was. Just bad enough to get him to leave us and join the clerics." Elthana adds when Goldsheaf asks.
"But yeah, we should hear what the others have to say and what their offer is in this transaction, as well as what Ebb is so nervous about. Honestly, I bet Te'louim already knows everything Ebb has to share. At least that would be my guess."
Having voiced their confusion it was Gewyn who seemed to understand. The young man looking to him as he places a hand gently on his shoulder. Neferox seems to eye the bard closely. Clearly not trusting them to touch Vin but not stopping them either. Vin listens. It's clear they really appreciate the words of kindness and wisdom. He smiles warm and true as he replies "Thank you Gewyn. That... that means a lot to me actually... Sometimes... I feel like the world keeps on going on without me. Like, I don't get parts of it. It's not that I don't understand its just... I can't seem to think that way. In a way, you're kind of like Nef..." The black hound immediately looks indignantly at Vin which causes him to laugh. They pet the top of her head and tell the hound and Gewyn "...In that you can both do things for me that I can't. I struggle... a lot. I always keep trying and as long as people like you all help me... I can keep on going forward. So Nef, I trust you to notice the danger around me. Gewyn, I trust you to handle the politics. I kind of trust everyone in our group to handle things I can't. I just hope I don't let any of you down." Vin gives a very heartfelt smile at Gewyn.
As talk gets to the subject of talking with Ebb Vin just nods in agreement. He seems ready for whatever plan they all have.
"the healing worked as much as it could, but don't worry, I'll be fine... I hold no grudge against you or Neferox, I prefer this outcome to being drained into a cauldron anyday" Iver says directly to Vin as he moves some bandages up to cover his injuries.
Gore nods along to Sam's advice, as does Goldsheaf, "repairs and infrastructure should be first on our list, no one can argue against that, as long as we can still feed and heal our people, that is." The old lizard states.
"We can't and won't ask you to help us rebuild, you've done enough for this town to be heralded as heroes for generations" Goldsheaf pipes up, "once we are done with this meeting, we shall celebrate your achievements properly. Now, I do believe there is a certain elf outside that I should speak to... Gore if you wouldn't mind joining me." With that Goldsheaf and Gore both stand and make their way to the door, but Goldsheaf stops, looking over her shoulder she says "do find out about the boy for me, it would help greatly knowing their motivations aside for their zealous need to assist"
A moment after Gore and Goldsheaf leave, Ebb enters the room, his fine vestiges looking like they may swallow him up at any moment, his face goes red and he glances to the group before blurting out, "I'm really sorry for walking away with the money, it was an accident honestly, and I'm really sorry for how Te'louim is conducting himself..."
Muir steps up to Ebb and introduces himself "Hello youngling. I am Master Muir, a Keeper of the Woods. It is my understanding that you were traveling with those here with me before having to leave because of a vision...May I ask what the vision was?"
"Master Muir, a keeper of the woods? Yes um, I'm Ebb, Qui Arbitranur, a cleric of the order of Hermes. Pleased to meet you." Ebb moves to Muir and offers a hand to shake. "My visions, I started having them shortly after we set off from Marblestead, I saw great fires and destroyed buildings, all things that came true in Hokum, I knew what we were heading toward would be dire... But then it changed, I saw Lyvander, my home, I saw the statue in the high district destroyed by a pillar of light, it sent shockwaves through the city, buildings fell, many people were running, screaming, dying... I feared that whatever happened here in Hokum was also happening in Lyvander. But when I got there it was fine, a few days after High priest Holm arrived, he confirmed that my visions were true, sent from Hermes himself, and a warning of what is to come..." Ebb tails off solemn and fearful.
Sam let's out a little burst of air. "Heh..." And another. "Heh he..."
A moment later Sam is unable to hold it in any longer and is full on laughing nigh near uncontrollably!
"Ebb!" Sam says through the laughter. "Ebb, Ebb, Ebb... No, no Ebb." But it is too much and Sam is laughing more...
Eventually Sam is able to tell Ebb not to worry about the money. "If that coin mattered to us that much we'd have hunted you down the first night we noticed you still had it! Just like I told Vin here to do!" And again Sam is slapping his knee and laughing up a storm. "Shit, Ebb... I trust you with that money more than I trust myself... That Tal'Dorei fella though... You could shove a silver up his ass and he'd spit a gold into his pocket, eh? Tell me... He half as bad as he seems, that one?"
As Ebb tells the tale of his vision there is something about it that seems off. Vin struggles for a bit thinking it over and then realizes what it is. It has a grim implication if true, "Ebb... not to poke holes in your visions but... if you saw the vision of Hokum as we left Marblestead. Wouldn't that be just about the same time Hokum was attacked? I ask because... I was curious if the vision could be changed but... how would you change a vision of a place you cant get to in time? Or... did we change it somehow?"
Muir releases Ebb's tiny hand from his own and smiles while asking "Surely if Ebb here is receiving messages from Hermes himself...What has Hermes said? Obviously if he is speaking to you he would provide more context than mere visions...He wouldprovide directions, context, you would do his bidding no? So tell us then Ebb, what was said to you by your god?
Ebb is taken aback by Sam's laughter and then grows even more red-faced at the statement of 'hunting' him down
"Te'louim is a good man, a righteous and faithful man I promise you.
Vin, I got visions of Hokum after it was invaded, when we set off it had already been attacked, we were told in our meeting with the council that no word had come from this place for weeks, for this reason I believe Hermes was showing me the extent of what is possible, what destruction lies in wait for Lyvander, what dangers can befall the rest of Northmorrah. You see, Hermes will is provided to us through our pillars, the teachings we must abide by which are passed down from mentor to apprentice, there have been speakers before me but not for a long time, Hermes needs not speak to me directly, I already now his will, it is to help, he only needs to show me where and I only need to have faith that his guidance will show me the right path."
Listening to the way Ebb is talking, Gewyn puts aside his initial plan, along with his pipes. Instead he pulls out his mirror for some light preening as he listens to the discussion.
Then he puts his mirror down on the table and says, "Yes, Te'louim doesn't necessarily strike me as a bad man. Just a very motivated one. I think there is reasonable discussion to be had there. As for us, it may be that if we report back to the council on the threat to Lyvander, we get sent there next. Given our unique experiences, there may be ought we can discern and act upon there. Or perhaps they won't send us. Your best shot at saving Lyvander from your dire portents will be to loop the Marblestead council in. Keep Priest Holm well informed, and we may well get to work together again."
Ebb looks down once more not meeting Gewyn's eyes at his recommendation. "High priest Holm, has returned to Lyvander and enacted a grand pilgrimage, the clerics are gone from marblestead, the only clerics and Paladins outside of Lyvander right now are the ones who are here, with me. It is a time of celebration for us when a speaker is found, but I can't enjoy it... Not when more death is looming.
I would of course love your help, but for now I need to know what you found In the mountain, the portal you mentioned, all of it please." At this point there is desperation in the young Verdan's voice.
Vin seems to squirm a bit as Ebb talks about the clerics and paladins. An uncomfortable thought as Nef seems to woof a bit at him telling him something. This seems to spur on Vin to ask something but first he replies "The portal was being corrupted by a powerful witch from another world. It was inside a tree deep underground. The tree had a bunch of runes on it that were changed by her. She also tried to use folks blood to corrupt the tree and the portal together. It was awful..." Vin hesitates a bit as Nef pushes him a bit and seems to be trying to get Vin to ask something for them. Vin sighs and seems uncomfortable as he asks, "Ebb... are you sure that the vision can be changed? That it's a warning? Nef... thinks it's... umm.... damage control. She wants to know... in your vision where you saw folks running for safety in Lyvander. Did you see any clerics or paladins helping them escape?"
Sam is… uncomfortable. Sam thought that he would ease tensions and help Ebb relax when he laughed and made it all into a joke but the man seems distraught and distressed beyond repair.
“Ebb… is everything alright? Besides your visions and all that. Obviously that’s a burden I won’t try to imagine but Ebb? You seem… beaten? Timid? Something. It’s not the Ebb I remember for sure…” Sam says.
“You say Te’louim is a good man, etc etc but I read something different from him. Was he always so… haughty and snobby? Or is he changed from the visions too or…?”
“And the visions… could they be coming from elsewhere than your god? The had witch got into our heads pretty well and she has a sister out here running about somewhere in the world… Can you be sure they are divine?”
Of course Sam is Insight Checking Ebb throughout: 10
“Mostly, I trust individuals and distrust groups, Same goes here, I guess. I trust you, Ebb. I hope you trust me. If you need to share anything or ask anything or anything… I’m here. I may not trust your order as a whole, may be that’s why the elf rubs me wrong.. but you and me? We’re friends, yes?”
"in the visions of Lyvander, it was the clerics and Paladins, along with the residents of Lyvander who were running, a bright light over took from the central column of light... I don't know what you mean by damage control, it hasn't happened yet, I must be able to avert it, I must!
I am ok" he says to Sam finally looking up and meeting the half Orcs gaze, "there are burdens I must shoulder, expectations I did not realise I would need to meet, and if I fail..." The Verdan gets quiet
"... It does not bare thinking about. The visions are from Hermes, that I am certain of.
Te'louim is logistically minded, organisational, that's how he got to the position he Is in, as well as showing masterful control over clerical magics. I feel like it has been too long since he walked the streets doing the ground work that clerics are known for, he is too removed from the intricacies of problems, the care of people's emotions, he sees a wider scope and it takes some getting used to, but he is not a bad person.
I'm sorry for prodding so much, but you say this witch was using blood, like blood magic? What can you tell me about that, about her... Where did she come from? Where does the portal go?"
Muir steps in. His companions would be able to tell he is guarding information "The witch used magic and blood to corrupt the portal in the mountains. It is fixed and dealt with. The hag is dead and the Fae have returned to their world to fix what the evil hag had done. There will be other portals opening up as there have been a tear in the fabrics separating all of the worlds, not just the realm of the Fae but other realms. Master Gore, instead of Hirsi, and young Vin's friend can work together to study this particular portal but you should try to find other portals popping up throughout the realm since this one has been dealt with. Focus on your vision of Lyvander and what else you remember....a bright light from the center...what was in the light? Everyone was running from the light? Did you see anyone you recognized in the vision? What were they doing? The details of your vision are vague....How did this vision come to you? Were you asleep? We need more details if we are to help you young Ebb.
Vin smiles at Nef and says "See, not what you thought." Nef scoffs and growls in grumpiness but doesn't seem to further object. Vin pats her head then says "I'm glad it can be changed then Ebb. It means we just need to figure out how. I can say there was no beam of light or super bright light source. Perhaps because we stopped the portal from being changed? As tot he blood...well... there is an entire garden of plants that were around a large tree that housed the portal. The plants were all bathed in it like they were trying to change them." Vin begins "Blood was also put in the portal from..." Nef woofs and warns the boy. he stops "Umm... sorry. We don't really have a lot of details. Its a lot easier to disrupt things like that then create them. It all seemed very ritualist to me. Lots of runes and specific magical things to be setup. Also, I'm not sure we fully understand how it all started. Did they just come through and begin to change it and attack the town or did something else trigger the portal to open again? Lots of questions."
“Te’louim in a great guy. You are fine. Vision definitely from Hermes,” Sam sums up with a bit of exasperation. They were getting nothing. Either through the wrong tactics or there was nothing to get.
“Well kid, we’ve told you all we know. Town was cut off. We were sent to investigate. You abandoned us. We did the mission, killed the bad guys. We returned and you and yours were here like you owned the place,” Sam adds, his tone cooling.
“If you have nothing to add then neither do we.. and we’ve got places to be. So spend that money in good health, eh? And good luck with the visions.” With that, Sam turns and leaves…
As Sam opens the door to leave he meets Goldsheaf, Gore, and Te'louim who are on their way in, the sounds of joyous celebration, some singing and feasting can be heard from the thunder of people outside.
As Goldsheaf enters she says "the clerics and I have come to an understanding, The High priest here would like to ask a few questions and then majority of them will be heading mountain-ward..." Te'louim nods and his attention is brought to Ebb who also begins to leave "I have all the information we need" the Verdan says guiding the Te'louim's shoulder gently to turn him around and without looking toward the party.
"Then enjoy the dinner, I thank you for your time" states the high priest as both he and Ebb follow Sam out of the office space.
As the door swings closed Goldsheaf gives a questioning look to the remaining party members, "you asked about his visions, their motives?"
Muir exasperated by his companions actions, throws his arms up in the arm as his ears flap furiously. "We didn't get much because young Vincent told him what he wanted to know" Muir turns and look at Vin "Next time listen to Neferfox, and keep your cards close. You told him what he wanted to know before we got any real information." Muir turns back to Goldsheaf and Gore "and Sam was.....Sam.....Gruff, direct, and intimidating." Muir pauses and looks at Sam "Not that I blame your feelings, they are right Sam but we know only slightly more than we did before he came." Muir takes a deep breath and calms his ears and nerves before continuing "Ebb truly believes he is the speaker, but he is not. Hermes has not spoken to him. The records of these Clerics point to Hermes making contact with his speaker in dreams. Not vague visions without messages.... He has had visions, but we know that those visions can be caused by other beings. We were unable to get anything more than his vision....bright light in Lyvander with everyone running. That's it....That's all we know unless Gewyn was able to deduce anything more.....What was said to you both? Gore if they are going to the mountain now, I fear they will destroy the portal thinking that will stop Ebb's supposed vision but all it will do is hasten everything that has been set in motion. They must let you and others study the portal and see how this happened." Muir looks at the others hoping.....
