Vin seeing the tension begin to build between the lion and nef again moved up to be behind nef and gave her a bit of a petting. The others were talking and Vin was on alert but it's hard for them to identify threats in the forest. Neferox on the other hand picks up on something and let's out a warning bark.
After the black hound acts quickly to warn the others they move towards the tree around to the other side of it so that Neferox and Elthana are flanking it. She then proceeds to bite and tear at the animated tree trying to tear at its form.
Attack Bite: 26 Damage: 8
Attack Bite: 14 Damage: 14
Vin stands their ground and follows up to Nef's attacks with gathering raw magical energy in his hands and unleashing a set of two blasts of energy directed at the tree.
Órga hears Sam’s command and least out a ferocious roar of challenge and warning. As the large lion starts to act, however, they see ‘the kid’ in no danger from anything but perhaps a tree? Órga shakes their head and main in confusion and then instead decides to go after the odd wood thing Sam is engaged with… Órga Creeps northeast and then north a bit before turning to face the thing Sam is attacking and charging!
(NE 1, N 3 then SE to creature so lion can charge 20 feet directly at it…)
Órga Claw Attack: 22 Damage: 8
(Slashing damage. Adv due to pack tactics. If claw attack hits (combined with 20’ charge) Pounce comes into play and opponent must make DC 13 STR save or be knocked prone. IF it is the Órga gets a free bite attack…)
Neferox makes light work of dodging around the tree to flank the large monstrous thing, she bites hard and well but for all her success, her teeth don't find as much purchase as they should. Vin's blasts however price very effective, blowing chunks of the creature splintering off in sharp explosive bursts. The creature however remains resolute, it doesn't even respond much to the serious damage it is taking.
As Órga jumps into action, she doesn't get far, making her way up towards the tree she steps into a seemingly mundane patch of vines and root, completely indistinguishable from any other area of this forest, however as she steps in the vines twist around her feet lashing up dealing a tremendous blow to the lion, who yelps in response, the vines drag her to the floor restraining her in place as they form another vaguely humanoid form.

Muir watches the trees come to life and his companions spring into action. He is surprised to see an Awakened Tree and Blights in these woods. Gore never spoke about them being here but Muir and Gore had spoken of stories regarding these beings. Muir looks around to see if there's something or someone around that has caused these to come alive and quickly raises his trunk for scents that wouldn't be found in these woods (24).
Unsure about these creatures' intent he speaks to the trees in their tongue "Beings of the woods! I am Muir, a Druid, and protector of the woods of this realm, who seeks answers. Stop attacking so we may settle this with no more harm done."
He readies a bolt of flames to fling at the tree attacking Sam and Orga in case the trees do not stop
Gewyn watches as chaos is unleashed around him. He backs up nervously and starts circling around a normal looking tree, trying to get out of the path of battle.
But when he sees the large tree looming behind Elthana, he breaks cover and calls out to it, ensuring Elthana is aware of its presence, "What are you supposed to be? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that as bad as you are at being a tree, you'd probably worse as furniture, so I guess that makes you firewood. Hey, Elthana! What do you say we chop this thing down to size?"
After the vicious plantlife seem to ignore Muir, the large tree that is currently being surrounded by Neferox and Elthana shudders a little at Gewyn's words.
The still smoking Vine form in combat with Sam lashes out attempting to grapple at him, but Sam is too quick deflecting the attempt effortlessly, his luck continues as another massive tree springs to life right next to him, triggered by the motion near it, It comes crashing down narrowly avoiding Sam, who is now feeling somewhat surrounded.
Iver moves to flank the Vine form grappling with Orga, slashing at the vines and managing to cut away some of its thick wriggling torso.
Meanwhile Gewyn and Vin notice another form assembling itself between them, It does not attack directly though, instead sending vines shooting out beside it into the ground, which then flourish in a 15ft radius entangling both Iver and Vin who are instantly brought to the ground and restrained. Sam continues his lucky streak managing to free his feet of the grasping vines beneath, although he, and most of the others in the group, find themselves within the writhing, grasping area of difficult terrain.
Watching as the two opponents she thought they were facing become a barrage of nature.. then her friends become entangled between the two large animated trees, Elthana realizes what the guards were talking about back in the clearing.
Thanks to Gewyn's shout, she turns around and faces the tree that was at her back. She kicks and punches at it using Neferox as her flank.
Elthana's attacks erupt forcefully across the tree front, dismembering an entire branch and impacting the fibrous trunk in several places, sap begins to seep from the creatures new found wounds, if a tree could look exhausted and hurt, it would look like this one.
In return the tree slams the weight of itself against Elthana, but as it rises back up she stands defiant and unhurt, hands still raised defensively ready for her next bout.
Órga all bound up. His friends entangled and endangered. Sam summons his inner rage! (Though it has no measurable effect other than making his ears red and hot...)
Sam wants to go aid the others but he fears he must first aid himself. The vine person didn't worry him but this massive tree right atop him that is suddenly alive? Not an effect of the rage, Sam none the less grows in stature so as to try to see this tree in a more eye to eye manner. (Bonus Action Giant's Might activated! Form of... A Large Half-Orc!) Shifting his focus from the vine-man, Sam swings instead at the tree to his south.
Maul Attack: 9 Damage: 7
Second Maul Attack: 19 Damage: 10
On the first attack to hit (if either do) Giant's Might does extra damage to the tune of: 4
Due to the Crusher feat, if the tree is size Huge or less it is pushed back 5 feet...
(And if any of the damage attack rolls are 1s or 2s I'll re-roll those in a follow up post.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As vines wrap around Vin and the others restraining their movements and making it hard to fight the boy looks to that vine form and wants to blast them but the angle is difficult and hard to gage. It would likely be two wild shots so instead Vin gathers their magical energy and feeling it sends out a large burst of power under the vine form's feet. A large fire burst form from the location Vin channeled their power.
Cast: Create Bonfire DEX Save DC 16 or take 6 fire damage. Also takes the damage again if they move into the fire or end their turn in it.
Neferox is ferociously tearing at the tree with their teeth still, trying to carve as deep into it's trunk as possible. She works with the others to attack the tree from many sides making it divide its attention and allowing their attacks to hit more.
Órga Tries to twist and twirl and claw and bite all while making very in-lion like whines and whimpers in their attempt to break free of the restraining vines… (STR check? 18 on Discord…)
Sam's maul attacks against the tree are fleeting, as he misses his first attack and his second glances off the tree's massive trunk, the damage that Sam's hit should have dealt seeming lacking in it's results.
As Vin channels his energy, fire sparking off of his fingers, the vine form restraining him is quick to redirect the attack making the fire created ineffective to burning the form.
Neferox continues dealing as much damage as possible, this time getting more bark off of her Tree's base, but again her bites don't seem to dig as deep as she would have hoped, regardless the tree looks heavily damaged and nearly dead.
Órga on the other hand gives out a large roar as he tears away at the vine form holding him, freeing himself and already preparing for their next attack, the lion smiles with the satisfaction of its own little victory. The vine blight facing Órga spins on the spot, quickly redoubling it's effort to restrain the now freed beast, as it spins around it slaps it's vined extremities at Órga like a whip, restraining her once more.
Muir irked that he doesn't get a response in the language he thought they would speak uses his size to break free from the vines despite having avg. strength for a Loxodon. He tries one last ditch attempt at reaching the awakened tress. He moves southeast 10 feet outside of the entangled zone now becoming aware of it. He decides to belt out in Druidic hoping for a response.
"Beings of the woods! I am Muir, a Druid, and protector of the woods of this realm, who seeks answers. Stop attacking so we may settle this with no more harm done."
Muir readies Guiding Bolt if he doesn't receive an answer on the blight attacking Sam (the one with the red line through it)
As Muir breaks free and shouts out, the tree to the south of him turns in his direction with some form of acknowledgement but still says nothing, the vine blight Infront of him merely hisses in response before Muir's guiding bolt explodes the creature into inanimate ribbons of fibrous vegetation.
Gewyn watches Orga and Muir rip their way free. He tugs at the vines holding him down, but to no avail. He looks up at the plant-form that seems to be the source and says with steel in his voice, "You know, this has never really been my thing. I think you should probably release m-" Gewyn is pulled off balance before he can finish his thought.
He looks over to Iver, likewise bound, and says "Hey, listen!"He makes eye contact and continues in a reassuring tone, "Don't worry.. we'll get through this. My friends and I are good in a... bind" Just then, a half-formed smirk is smacked off his face by a flailing vine.
Gewyn still struggles to break free, The Awakened tree to the south moves around Sam and toward its closest Vine counterpart, Slamming its massive body weight at am as it goes, but missing once more.
Iver struggles against his bindings but has no luck, watching in horror at the sight of Orga being freed and then restrained once more.
The Vine blight with its Vines grasping out restraining many group members takes its turn to hit and constrict those in its grasp. Most avoid damage, but Gewyn cannot avoid the Vines thrashing against him.
Punching with expert precision and just the right amount of force, Elthana busts a hole through the tree. It keels over and becomes one with the forest floor once more, as Elthana wastes no time in moving directly to the next attacker. She swings two fierce blows at the vine blight currently restraining Órga, hitting with the first and missing with the second.
Sam is angry. He hopes the tree won't like him when he is angry... Sam considers sidling around the tree in order to get opposite of Gewyn but out of the corner of his eye it seems like the music man is totally tied up and not much use for distracting the foe from his attacks. Sighing, Sam just cuts loose with his maul once more.
Sam's first maul attack fails miserably (nat 1 for 9 total) but the Half Orc renews his grip and swings a second time with a bit more success (8+8 for a 16 to hit, Damage 13 total moved down to 12 Damage after Great Weapon Master reroll of a 2 to a 1.)
If that hits, Sam's mighty swing 1) knocks the tree five feet SouthWest (away from Gewyn) due to the Crusher feat and 2) the tree takes an additional 5 Damage (2d6) from the activation of the Fire Rune which is upon Sam's Maul. Additionally the tree must succeed on a STR saving throw (DC:14) or be restrained for 1 minute. IF it is restrained by the fiery shackles which appear upon it the tree takes 2d6 fire damage at the start of each of its turns. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, banishing the shackles on a success.
