Griff nods and listens. Trying to make it seem that he's not actively eavesdropping (14 straight performance) he doesn't seem to raise suspicion and if he is noticed by Sol or Shenoh, they make no moves to stop the eavesdropping.
Gewyn takes a spot next to Elthana if she sits. Then he leans across and says quietly, but above a whisper, "Glad to see you well." He puts a hand on her shoulder and smiles. "This is a bit of a mess we find ourselves in, but this mess is movement. The quagmire we wade through now is stirred up by the thwarting of long-laid plots. If we can get through this, we will be closer to peace. For Theair, sure. But especially for you."
Shenoh stops the conversation with Sol and turns to the table, addressing the group, Griff makes eyes contact with Vin and seems to nod giving the all clear on what was said in auran between the two
"this group seems to have gone above and beyond the mission given, had you been members of my military you'd all be up for promotion. But as things stand you certainly have my thanks" she takes a large pale leather wrapped book from her pack, one that Elthana would recognise though hasn't yet seen it properly. Shenoh begins pawing through the book pointing at certain things for Sol to read before he either nods yes or shakes his head no. "Vampires and their spawn... From the report we have a hostile force in our midst 800,000 strong, and from the reports we are getting in we've taken out around 2 percent of that force in the first couple of hours merely from first response before the lieutenants and I decided a more efficient plan. Ah here we go," she reads from the book slowly, translating in her head before speaking in common to the group and Sol, "vampires themselves have blindsight in a large area, stealth tactics and invisibility won't work. Immune to spells that charm or frighten, best to inform the black cloaks. Mundane weapons and necrotic spells don't do as much damage, we need to get as many enchanted weapons into the hands of the footsoldiers as possible, even if temporarily enchanted. Here... here's the kicker, when a vampire is killed whilst not in direct sunlight or running water, it teleports to its resting place where it will regain it's functions slowly, regenerating to it's peak health after around 200 hours." Sol dutifully writes things down on small squares of the thick rubbery pages before rolling them up and sending them out through a system of pipes at the back of this room. Shenoh continues... "The spawn have no such immunities, and the only thing that they take less damage from is necrotic spells and such, no blindsight either. They seem a lot easier to kill, no resting place, no regeneration, both of these undies are specifically vulnerable to radiance, spells and such...
Sam, Sol reports that you found and destroyed a nest that was a resting place for these vampires regeneration, thank you for doing so, but could you describe what was there before you destroyed it, in detail if you could?"
Elthana takes a seat, looking at the projection of the flower but not really understanding what it is. She shrugs and tries to relax as Shenoh is debriefed. She's about to ask what happened as well, curious about the fight with Mori, when Gewyn leans over. She finds tears starting to well up, unbidden and she looks away. She is so glad to be back with her friends, her family.
Looking across to Muir, she smiles at the big lug. "You alright? You're very quiet for you."
Sitting back, she listens to the report on the undead. So that's what that book was, info on their enemies. She wondered how old it was and how this information was obtained in the first place.
Muir forces a smile and answers quietly "I am trying to be." Muir does ask one question before Sam answers "800,00 strong here... Have you reached out across the realm to see what they are dealing with?"
"that is the next stage." Shenoh says in response to Muir keeping her tone serious, "I have not conferenced with my Djiin brethren mostly because the means of communication we have set up is connected via Vox Tontritor, though the Ginro scientists are finishing the adjustments on their project right now, which should enable me to give the news to Ginro himself face to face. To then spread the news through his gates in person."
"What? Only Vin is happy enough to see me to give me a hug?" She says this looking directly at Sam.
Sam rolls his eyes and sticks his tongue out at her as if they were back in 3rd grade...
(Perception roll to even know what a large flower delight is? 10... So it's a flower? That is happy? Ok then.)
Sam mostly just finds a chair and slumps into it, not caring much about the debrief or other conversations. He is tired and beat and happy for a rest.
"Huh, what?" he responds, stirred out of a half-doze by his name being mentioned by Sol.
Once Sam realizes just what the question is he answers to the best of his ability. "Honestly, I wasn't taking notes. It was a little hidey-hole behind a locker in what appeared to be the worker's break room. Wasn't much there besides a couple of caskets. I think secrecy was the main goal... I didn't notice much else and just started right in on the breaking of stuff. That is my norm,' Sam replies. He had found a ring with Auren engraving on it and a small bone knife which reeked a bit of magic but (as far as I recall) that was outside the hidey-hole and he saw no particular reason to volunteer these items up for confiscation.
Vin listens in intently to all the talk of vampires and their spawn, and the Ginro scientists and their project to allow travel between Ginro and Shenoh.
He allows Sam to recount his information regarding the vampire nest, before finally asking a couple of questions of his own.
"Was Mori involved in forming any defensive strategies that you may have put in place in case of an invading force? In case she accounted for them when instructing the undead she has been creating. And also, what exactly is that?", he asks pointing at the flower shaped image floating above the tale.
"caskets, in secret rooms..." Shenoh turns over the words in her head before giving Sam a thankful nod and glancing over to Sol who is writing things down.
As Vin asks his questions, shenoh thinks, "no, most of our home defence was placed before Mori's arrival, the ITAD harpoons and such were created by Ginro's people and created and placed under Vinghov's predecessor's over sight many years ago. The rest of the isles defences are the troops, protocol and training under lieutenants and overseen by Advisors, any change to the protocols introduced to Mori's troops would have been noticed long ago..."
As Vin asks what the flower is shenoh gives a look of realisation, "oh, yes... hang on, this will help, some of Ginro's stuff, I don't like to keep it complete for fear it'll break." She stands and starts looking under the crystal table, from a compartment within the thick base she lifts a huge perfectly smooth glass ball with a little umbrella above it, the inside of this umbrella seems to be made of a reflective material. Placing the ball upon the 'flower' she adjusts it to the center and the group see that each petal is reflected on the surface of the glass ball, the edges of the petals connect in the convex surface and the intersecting lines connect, the ball becomes a globe, each of the 24 petals a section of the city within the isle. Details arise in certain sections highlighting areas of the city and shenoh puts a handful of red oval gems on the table top and starts arranging them around the petals which then project the red marks up on to the globe. "Here is the factory you all just came from. The staff Sol tells me she broke to cause this transformation in the corrupted troops, do you still have it?..." Placing another few gems down, "here, here, and here are reported hotbeds of activity from hostiles, majority in Mori's sectors which is to be expected. Sol I want these three healing houses prepped and stocked ready for the flood of injured that we'll likely receive, orders out to this specific houses that anyone with long term illness who can be transported should be moved to healing houses at least a sector over from the hotbeds... If we, can create a perimeter then we can quell the violence more effectively and begin the search for these secret caskets... From the time of the staff breaking and the first full vampire's death we have 200 hours until the terminated undead rise again for a second wave. That's 8 days to kull all 800,000. But the first 12 hours are critical for containment and for making sure we can swap out exhausted troops for fight capable ones, this seems to be a war of endurance, but this is our home, we have the upper hand and the numbers over them." Sol writes down several orders and gives a nod, sending off the ones that need sending and formulating plans of his own.
"Also 8 days to figure out how to get daylight or sunlight as a viable weapon?" He asks.
Shenoh thinks for a moment, "you need to rest before that happens, Vinghov and I will bare the majority of responsibilities for the first 12 hours and then you and ving will swap out, I need all hands on deck but rested hands make for effective counter attacks, this is where your group comes in." Shenoh turns to the party.
"Elthana and I have come to an agreement, having spoken to her and ascertained the lengths she would go to to rid this plane of Nivara, she has my full trust.
I will not hold her here, nor would I want to with the enemy so close, Elthana and the entire group here are destined for things that cannot be avoided by merely hiding Elthana away... That being said she has a task as part of a trade that will take her to Ginro's isle, I'd like the group as a whole to go with her, you all understand already how important it is that she does not die. But as you go I have another task for you all. To inform the djinni of this plane and continue the task of gathering forces against Nivara, It is what you came to this isle to do and you succeeded even with various setbacks... once we have cleaned up our mess here we will be more than willing to support the assault. What say you all?"
"I would love to help but I believe I am due to be held for some imaginary crimes or something?" Sam sneers. "It was unclear if there would be a show trial first or not... But yeah, seems my calendar is booked up."
Vin watches with interest as Shenoh completes the map of her isle, which pinpoints the location of the factory they were at. When she asks about the staff, he places it against the table.
"I thought it might be useful. I fixed it but the magic is now gone".
He then listens to the rest of Shenoh's words and her request of them, and watches as Muir simply nods. His silence is concerning, as is Sam's subsequent childish response. As if now is the time to goad Shenoh, with her people now at war and in imminent, mortal danger.
"Wherever Elthana goes, Neferox and I will follow, and do our best to keep her save. Despite his petulance, I expect Sam will do the same", he says, trying to deflect attention away from Sam's antics. "I do want to know more about this trade though, and why it is so important to our cause. I would also point out that we are also in need of rest, and due to the difference in the passage of time here, our bodies require longer than normal to recover. If we are to use the Ginro gates you spoke of to travel, that will not leave us enough time to recuperate. Unless you have anything that might help with that?".
Shenoh scowls a little at Sam, "I believe we had an agreement, you work well with your group and succeed in your task overseen by Sol or the trial. So I'll leave it with him. Sol, what are your deductions on Sam's effectiveness?"
Sol sighs, obviously having hoped to slip this particular responsibility and once he has finished his long drawn out sigh he begins, "I mean, yeah? It is as the group said before they left, Sam is a hard hitter and makes up for any lack of discipline with brute force, even when odds were stacked against him he threw his near lifeless body at the enemy with complete disregard for his own safety or concern for the use in time for the group to heal him back up when he did completely lose consciousness in a fight, his commitment is commendable of not short sighted...
In all honesty he's more beneficial to us alive, to the realms as a whole and free to complete this groups mission, only with the caveat that the group is with him, for direction and guidance. Sam is not evil nor malicious, just a grumpy guy with a chip on his shoulder and a parochial outlook.
The crime for which he is accused is a group problem, and I think after what this group has done for us and hopefully will continue to do for us, we owe it to them to let them sort it out." For all the good Sol is trying to do he winces slightly at his own words and gives both Sam and Muir a bit of an apologetic look.
Ömertyr sees what is happening and comes to the table, nudging Sam and asking what is happening.
Shenoh gives a nod to Sol before addressing Vins words and looking over the staff. "The trade between myself and Elthana I will let her explain, a mere item for an item, but symbolically I think, and I hope she would agree, that it means much more, for the fight we have ahead of us and for the safety of this realm as well as your group... This staff is as you say, now mundane, I am curious why you fixed it what use you thought it might have, but at this point I don't think it matters." Shenoh rubs her brow, a few of the thick papers arrive in the chutes behind her, reports coming in.
Vin looks across to Sam and wonders sometimes if Sam can hear himself, but doesn't respond, just gives Sam a small nod.
When Shenoh and Sol launch into the outcome of the task Sam was set in lieu of a trial, he simply listens. He wishes this whole ordeal was behind them, but not even an army of 800,00 vampire spawn can achieve that it seems. It was all so unresolved, and seemingly it would remain so.
After Sol finishes, he corrects Sol in his mind, but doesn't speak the words. It is Elthana that needs to be present to guide Sam. He doesn't listen to anyone else.
When asked about the staff, he looks to Elthana.
"They look identical, and she has portrayed Mori before. Perhaps the staff is just a prop to allow her to do it again", he says with a shrug. "And my point about our need to recuperate?", he then prompts.
"Sounds like not guilty to me," Sam declares when Sol finishes babbling on about him. "Case dismissed!"
"Don't worry about it," Sam says to Ömertyr in Giant. "Her high-britches there was trying to trump up some charges against yours truly for the lack of self preservation by another... All good now."
When the topic of the trading of items comes up, Sam's eyes slide to Elthana. "Aye, and? What's this all about then?"
Elthana had taken a back seat to the conversation, just happy to be amongst her friends again. But as expected, some of the issues going on within start rearing their ugly heads. the shadow elf sighs and shakes her head. How are they going to do this when the bickering never stops?
"Shenoh and I had a good conversation, and I told her what you all know. What lengths I will go to stop Nivara, to end this plan of hers and rid our lives of her likeness. We all know what a tall order that is and we continue our quest to gather as many as possible to it."
She looks to Muir and his silence and it bugs her. His continued silence starts to eat away at her and she scowls at him, unsure what to say. As Sam again criticizes Shenoh, Elthana stands up, puts her palms on the table and leans towards the half-orc, and in a voice almost a whisper but laced with anger, "Enough Sam. You would do well to watch what you say."
She then stands back into a more relaxed pose as she continues, "As for the trade... as I'm sure Shenoh knows, I would have given her these bracers on their own if I had known that Ginro could duplicate this item for many to use against our common foe. Give archers a way to shoot magical arrows against the undead. In exchange, she let me keep a book I was reading." She smiles at this, knowing how it sounds.
