Sam gives a small nod. He had heard Paul give that answer earlier but keeps quiet about it figuring Muir would think he was being snarky or something. Instead Sam just says "Poor buggers. Whatever they were," and reaches out and gently touches one with a fingertip. As he does so he attempts to cast Cure Wounds upon it for 5 HP. He figures it won't do any good, whether they are dead or petrified... But if Molly's embrace can do anything he figures he should try.
(I'm assuming spell doesn't work so... Does casting Cure Wounds on something that cannot be cured use up a spell slot? Or does it just not work?)
Sam grunts at this information. He’s not sure what Elementals are, exactly, so he’s not sure what to make of it. “What were they doing here, ya think?” Sam asks. “And why are they all dead?”
As Vin touches the orb, both he and neferox disappear, just as Elthana had disappeared when touching shenoh's lamp. Those who observe would note the similarity.
As Sam speaks to the Xorn's they don't seem to take much notice of him as they are distracted by their new surroundings, but they do seem to pay heed to his forbiddance of eating the Chwinga graves lest they lose their right to lunch. "No more experiment, it works, the facts are solid and it was you who requested we test it first Sam..." Ginro reminds as Sam refuses the offer of a bed regardless of how visibly tired he is.
The grave has no reaction to Sam's spell, though he does indeed feel Molly's influence leave his body, the magic searching to latch on and heal a living creature but finding nothing in the stone it fizzles and is expended. Curiously something rustles in the flowers next to the graves and appearing from a flower, (similar to how shionne was able to enter and exit a tree) a small black bodied doll like creature tumbles out, doing a little cartwheel. The creature is only about six inches tall and has a face like an oval mask, Sam immediately recognises the visage as that of the shapes carved into the graves. This living chwinga approaches Sam sensing his want to heal and to care for something, the little creature claps it's tiny hands and reaches out with a tiny finger to touch Sam's hand.
Anyone paying attention to Gewyn and Elthana's private sidebar would see the pair sit down in the grass, cross legged and facing eachother, Gewyn begins performing a ritual and from his turned back the only thing visible would be the growth and then blighting of wild Fae flowers around the pair and a subtle glow coming from the bards back, peeking out under his shirt collar.
Muir looks around and sees several living Chwingas. He looks down and see one near his feet tapping on his staff. He smiles at the little fella. He wonders if they speak. He tells Sam first "These creatures are Chwingas."
Muir then tries to talk in Sylvan to them to see if they understand
"You do it yet?" Sam offhandedly asks Ginro even as he's walking away to go to the Chwinga and such. Sam just doesn't trust Ginro or his quick sleep plot and he's set his mind against it, it'd take far more than words to convince him to give it a go.
Sam frowns when his healing fizzles out but he's not actually surprised so he can't actually be disappointed. From what he had heard up to that point it was all past tense for the Chwinga so Sam hadn't really thought he could resurrect one, but idle curiosity forced him to try. Sam is startled, however, when he hears the rustling and then sees one of the tiny creatures emerge from the foliage. A large grin spreads across Sam's face and he falls backwards from the squat he was in to touch one of the markers and lands on his butt. That and the little cartwheel the little creature does causes an amused chuckle to escape Sam as well.
"These creatures are Chwingas." Sam hears Muir say. "Fascinating," Sam says in a hushed, fascinated voice. "They understand?" he asks after he hears Muir try some language Sam doesn't know...
"Hello, little guy," Sam says softly a bit later, holding his hand carefully still so as not to frighten the creature. "So there are more of you around then? Good, good!! Glad someone is here to take care of things..." Sam has no idea of the tiny dude could understand him or not so he kept his voice soft and gentle and amused.
"Sorry about your friends there," Sam says with a slow, gentle nod towards the stonehenge type stones. "I hope you know I meant no disrespect..."
Sam waits a bit to see if the Chwinga responds or even understands. The creature reminds him of the Geonids and other stone-like dudes he's met previously even though they really don't resemble them at all.
"Would it be ok if those big brown guys over there stayed here a while?" Sam asks after a bit. "I kind of brought them here accidentally and all and they really have no place else to go without causing mayhem... I told them to leave your stones alone and will make sure that goes for leaving you be as well. If that's alright?"
Sam's eyes do stray from the little Chwinga dude to Elthana and Gewyn a lot during this attempted interaction. Sam is quite curious just what they are doing and if it pertains to the sleeping experiment... But Sam vaguely recalls Gewyn mentioning he may be able to help Elthana with her nightmares and Sam guesses it probably has to do with that? He hopes it works... SHE does need some sleep if any of them do. But Sam is mostly distracted by the little ones and Elthana is doing whatever that is willingly so Sam figures it is mostly none of his business and leaves them to it.
Muir shakes his head to Sam "I'm unsure. I've never heard of them speaking." Muir figures now is as good of a time as any to ask Ginro "Ginro, how long have you had this tree? It is not from our world so I wonder how did you get it?"
"the tests are complete Sam, the results successful, just as you asked, I can show you the metrics of the results if you wish since you seem to find no worth to my word." Ginro's smile doesn't falter, in fact he seems eager to share the likely boring calculations and such, if anyone actually wished.
As Sam talks to the little Chwinga it seems to understand intention more than words, when he gestures to the stones and offers soft words the Chwinga makes a little squeak and hugs the stone before pointing at Sam's large hand and then patting the top of the little gravemarker. When pointing out the Xorns to the little creature it doesn't seem to know what he is talking about, but as Sam and Muir's attention is drawn to the large monsters it seems one has fallen asleep in some long grasses and a tiny Chwinga is doing a handstand upon the sleeping Xorn's form, slowly turning in a circle with. It's little legs kicking in the air as if riding an invisible upside down bicycle.
"Oh this old thing," Ginro starts, in answer to Muir's question, "she came from the faewyld, long long ago back when realm travel was easier. Though time does work quite strangely there I'm told, yes big red here is what we call her, she supplies nutrients and vital air filtration to this lab so that we can work on growing and adjusting the plants here to better benefit the realm, I grew her from a seed if you can believe it, I had quite the green thumb before..." He raises his prosthetic hook hand in a joking apology "well, you know.. anyway, yes I traded an elf writer for it, he was interested in stories from this realm and I was interested in growing our variety of foods and useful materials"
During this entire time the orb still remains in ginro's outstretched hand waiting for any other members of the group to jump in to where vin and Neferox wait.
Sam barely listens to Ginro and his talk about his supposed tests. He notes he didn't claim to have gone in and rested himself but even if he had, Sam has no interest in trusting himself to the Djinn's magics.
On the other hand, Sam is instantly charmed and enraptured by the Chwinga and their antics. "The big guys are alright by yous, eh?" Sam asks. "Good good... What about everyone else? They all good to you and all?"
Along with trying to get the Chwinga's impressions of the scientists in this room, Sam will also try to connect by just trying to play with them a bit. He will use Mold Earth to make little walls and boulders and like little obstacle course things and see if they interact with them. He will use Minor Illusion to make little fireworks and and sounds and such. Depending on how much they are willing to interact with these, Sam will progress to trying to use them to communicate - Use them to see if the Chwinga can answer simple Yes or No questions by pointing to an X or a Check Mark... See if they can understand Good vs Bad by responding to soothing sounds instead of clangy ones.
Elthana smiles at the Chwinga that is looking at it's reflection in her blade. She reaches in her pack and breaks off a tiny hunk of a ration and hands it to the little guy, wondering what interests it.
Exhaustion soon washes over her and she stands up. Seeing Sam play with more of the little critters makes her smile again. But without a word, she walks to the orb and before she touches it, she looks back at Gewyn with a worried look in her eyes, but then rests her hand upon it.
“Oh you mean Stryder?! If he left anything behind, bites, books, etc I’d be interested in seeing it. Also do you mind me using the tree as a house for a few brief moments. I have an item that allows me to travel inside a tree and it becomes a house of sorts. Would you mind me using your tree briefly?”
Sam receives no real answer to his questions about how the Chwingas are treated, the Chwinga seems content, and still insatiably curious. It becomes enraptured by the tiny obstacle course making use of its own ability to invert it's gravity and practically dances over the obstacles, even doing some of it on its hands, legs kicking in the air playfully. As Sam summons a little fire work display the Chwinga is started and dives to the floor before disappearing within a nearby flower, after a moment it's little oval faceplate peeks out the vibrant colours flashing across it as it can't help but watch even after the initial surprise. The Yes/No questions prove difficult for the Chwinga, once it hesitantly returns to Sam from the flower it cocks it's head confused at hie words, when he points to the check mark the Chwinga copies but Sam soon realises that it's understanding on what it is doing and why is maybe a little lacking.
As Elthana leaves Gewyn and their ritual something seems a little different the more insightful members of the group may pick up on a blend of anxiety but also relief in Elthana. As she touches the orb she too disappears.
"Stryder! Yes that was his name, a long long time ago not even elves such as him are that long lived. He did leave something, a kind of metal rod, said he wouldn't need it any more and wanted a safe place to store it. I obviously kept it safe but if he isn't coming back for it I don't see the harm in you taking a look... Your item won't damage her will it? The using the tree as a house?" Ginro asks.
“I would very much like to check out the rod. I have been tracking him in this great mystery so it would be helpful. As for the tree….It’s never damaged a tree before…I used it on one in this realm created by a fae so if this is a fae tree, I don’t see the harm”
"Everything alright then?" Sam calls over to Gewyn jut after Elthana disappears into the orb. Sam noticed... something. Not anything "off" necessarily but something. Hard to say exactly what as his attention was on the Chwinga.
Speaking of, Sam continues to play and "test" the Chwinga with a sense of wonder and delight. He continues to try to communicate a bit even if it is just to try to be able to get a sense of what they feel is good or bad, what they like and dislike, but he doesn't press the issue or try to force it. He tries to keep it all playful and fun and does his best not to pester the little guys. If they ever wander off to do something else or seem annoyed, Sam stops and lets them go about their business. He'll watch from a far to see just what they do do, if anything, but he really doesn't want to interfere...
"Could've used the tree I created," Sam chimes in as a bit of an aside if he is in earshot of Muir and Ginro. "I wasn't knowing they already had a tree room..."
Ginro gestures to the tree allowing Muir to approach.
Sam, from his delighted testing, gets the distinct impresion that the Chwingas appreciate a soft voice and a playful manner, they are obviously inherently curious but can also seem to sense intention, but not communication. Before Sam gets up and turns away from the little scamp, it reaches its tiny hand up toward his and touches his finger, Sam feels a boon bestowed upon him, a supernatural charm as a thank you for Sam's intention for trying to heal the graves.
"I've had a report that it has petrified" Ginro says in answer, "...the tree you summoned on me, it's bark is no longer wood, but a very interesting stone composite, it may be very useful, or make an interesting feature for whatever we turn that room into, it doesn't necessarily meet its function as a vault any longer." He grins, amused at the situation
"Yeah, that happens,' Sam notes, unconcerned. "Still a tree though. No?"
Sam pulls his finger back with gasp of exaggerated surprise and shock, being playful, and immediately sticks it in his mouth as if it was a cut fingertip or something. But he's quickly grinning around the finger and his eyes are alight. "Thank you!" he says with genuine appreciation. He's not sure what happened but he's sure the little dude did something nice. "There anything I can do for you? Anything you want?" He knows now they won't understand the words but if they get what he means then maybe...
Gewyn nods reassuringly to Elthana, stands up, staggers a bit, and then straightens. "Not everything, I'd say, Sam. But things are certainly better than they were before. Nivara will have a hard time getting the jump on us now. If she tries anything, I'll know, and we can work to stop it."
He notes with interest Sam's demeanor with the chwingas, filing the information away. Then he turns to the one on the ground next to him. He pulls out his pipes and starts to play a calm but cheery melody to see if he can lead the chwinga over towards the main group.
Sam's not entirely sure what Gewyn means, but that is certainly not new. "Alright then," he replies. "You doing the orb thing with them? I'll be out here..." Other than that, Sam continues with the Chwinga, roams around the room a bit with them on his shoulder (if they allow) or otherwise joining if they wish. Sam also wants to check on the Xorn a bit more now that they been here a bit and just generally get the layout here.

Muir nods to Sam and then watches him bend over to look at the Chwinga.....Muir says quietly to Sam "They are graves for Chwingas"
