As Elthana waits for Terry to translate, Shionne reaches out to the shadow elf for an embrace. She almost refuses, seeing that it was a hug and it was from someone that it felt like they were just fighting, but with her reaction slowed and hoping that the dryad could help her, she lets the woman embrace her while she copes with whatever Muir said.
While she does however, she looks around desperately for one in her party to help her out. Feeling smothered by the closeness of another person.
Vin smiles in relief as friendly voices and faces show up. Shionne, Terry and Goldsheaf there guarding the caves. Vin is quite amazed at how well Gewyn is able to recount the ordeal in quite an entertaining way as well as the sufficient recounts by Muir and Sam.
Vin is surprised when Goldsheaf looks to him for answers. He pauses a moment to think over the question and says "No, you don't want to cave in the entrances. The portal will still be there and what would happen if no one could get to it if someone else came to corrupt it? I think it would be best to maintain connections between here and Shionne on the otherside. Protect it from both sides and maybe even establish a healthy connection between our two worlds or at least find a way to close it safely and permanently for all parties. I think it would be amazing to have friendly connections to another world though. The first step will be clearing out the dangers in the caves. We didn't explore them fully and there are at least some giant spiders that'll be dangerous if someone encounters them. You are all safe right now though. The one behind this was dealt with."
Vin then pulls out the charm fruit he took and hands one to Shionne and one to Goldsfeaf. "These are what have effected the soulless. It puts them in a charmed like state where they jsut follow all commands given to them. Like an enchantment spell but maybe its mkre like a poison? Between the two of you and other folks like the clerics I bet we can find a way to cure them now we have samples of what did it to them."
Seeing Elthana’s desperation, and feeling a bit himself, Sam excuses himself from Goldsheaf and questions about what should be done and heads over to their mishapen monk.
Standing awkwardly close to the two Sam clears his throat. The does do again louder. And louder, if he must. “Sorry, don’t mean to interrupt, but can I borrow Elthana a moment? We need to.. ummm.. “ but Sam has nothing. No excuse but the look in her eyes.
“I’m sure you understand!” Sam finally decides to go with and then drags Elthana away,
“Sorry. I know you want to discuss a cure and all… just figured you might like to do it after she’s done being weepy,” Sam explains softly, hopefully soft enough to not be overheard.
Elthana looks gratefully at Sam as he works on extricating her from her current predicament. But as the dryad starts speaking elvish to her, her eyes widen in surprise. She holds up a disfigured hand to Sam and mouths, one moment, and continues her discussion with Shionne.
Sam raises an eyebrow but otherwise just waits where he is. He'd been under the impression Shionne spoke only the fancy Fey language, thus the translator. It seems like deception is just hard wired into them, Sam thinks.
"you both have valid points, but also you're right in that tomorrow might be a better time, I'd like to discuss options with the clerics and the Hermes Paladins too, i also want to get Master Gore's input but he travelled to the town already... But I feel that as long as this portal remains even if it is just a crack, it will be a potential threat.
For now rest. We have hot food and once we get the cave blocked off and everyone back in, it's actually quite warm." Goldsheaf answers in response to both Sam and Vin, her voice is cold as usual, maybe just due to exhaustion or maybe that is simply a common feature of those with too much to manage, but her sentiment on food and warmth seems genuine enough, "know this, Hokum does not forget those it is indebted to, you all have our eternal gratitude!" She adds loud enough for every party member to hear, this statement gets several cheers of agreement from Gewyns crowd of survivors and Goldsheaf begins organising the move back into the cave for the night.
Elthana and Shionne quickly finish speaking, their muttered words hard to make out, which isn't helped by Shionne's emotional state, after their embrace, Elthana untangles herself from Shionne's arms and Shionne takes a few steps into the nearest tree where she disappears for now.
Muir continues talking to Terry in the sylvan tongue, Terry for the most part looks more serious in his face than the party have ever seen him before, his brows furrowed with concern.
Gewyn hangs out nearby once his crowd disperses, though not so near as to intrude on Muir's conversation. He avoids eye contact with Shionne for now, not entirely sure what to say, but he does meet Elthana's eyes for a moment. Sauntering over, he says, "Hey. How are you doing? It almost looked like Shionne was communicating with you. Everything alright?"
Vin sees that Shionne leaves and Gewyn goes over to find out more. Vin has an idea that Shionne cared more for her sister then her sister ever knew. He thinks about the broken shards in his pack and makes a note to bring them to her later. He also looks around a bit for familiar faces that joined them. He spots one of the elven guard that joined them to the tower which makes him feel a bit better. As Goldsheaf expresses gratitude to Sam and Vin for what the group has accomplished the young man says "Thank you Goldsheaf. I'm just glad we arrived when we did. No one imagined it was so bad. I'll defiantly take you up on the rest and food though. Where is Iver and the others that helped us out? Last we knew they were holding the tower with a lot of people we just rescued. Bunkered down and waiting as we went to assault the giant and the one responsible for all this."
Now that the majority of the survivors have funneled back into the blocked cavern, and old thicket moves himself to cover the entrance once more, Goldsheaf answers Vin "Iver is still back at town, he's been overseeing the cleric scouts' recon over the town, and he's going to be there to greet the main force at dawn, you're welcome to return to town before us to meet him and Gore. We had word from the elven guard that the towns folk you rescued are doing well, that news in particular has given us Some hope as to reconnecting with some of those we thought lost. Come, Eat." With that she gathers the group and invites them all inside, where a few of the healthier survivors continue warming the cave and preparing food.
When Shionne disappears, Elthana hobbles over to Sam and finds a spot to sit, leaning against a tree. She closes her eyes as she sits there, trying to rest and think about what all happened. She opens her eyes a moment and sees Gewyn looking at her. She smiles as he saunters over.
"I'm alright. Desperate for this curse to end, but glad we succeeded in saving the town. Do you remember, didn't those clerics say something about Lyvander and that there was an issue there? Or am I just in a fog?" She sighs a moment then her face changes, hard to tell what emotion is on it with the disfigurement though. "Yes, that deceitful wench. She speaks fluent elvish! Would have been helpful to know that, guess we don't need a translator afterall. She was asking about her sister, understandably she's upset, but shit, I don't care. I told her that the death wasn't quick enough." she looks at Gewyn with softer eyes, almost a sorrow in them, "I mean... we could have lost..."she breaks off without saying you.
"I started asking her questions but she wants to address us all, which is good, so we're meeting her later. And in my rush to understand what happened between the sisters, I forgot to ask about my f*ing curse! How stupid!" and she hits her fist against the ground.
“Perhaps all Fey are deceitful by nature?” Sam suggests. (I’m assuming he is with Elthana and Gewyn but if they wanted privacy he’d step away and all this can be ignored.)
“No offense!” Sam quickly adds, not thinking of Gewyn as one of these people from a different place.
“Seems to me we never got a straight answer from any of them. Thicket said they cast off the ones they didn’t like or who weren’t good enough or such? No clear answers on the soulless or the not deer or anything. And Shionne and her sisters were all part of the same damn tree and she had no clue her sister Rynwell was behind it all “ Sam says excitedly but trying to keep his volume down so as not to be overheard. “Is it just me or is it all wonky? Even Thicket was creating awakened trees to distort this land but then is our friend so quick..,”
Vin thanks Goldsheaf for the information and seems suddenly very relieved. They seem able to finally smile and enjoy the victory. She will join the others going inside listening to Elthana vent a bit about Shionne's deception of speaking elven and other such things. "There was something going on in Lyvander but we were not sure what. We had our hands pretty full. I'm glad she's going to talk to us all later. So many questions. Let alone what will happen next. We will definitely get that cursed removed. Perhaps we can find one of the clerics here to help? I'm going to take Goldsheaf up on the rest and food. I want to check in with a couple people while we are here then when everyone is ready we can accompany them to meet with the clerics arriving at dawn." Nef just kind of gruffs and nods. Vin will of course wait for the others if they have anything to add but otherwise follows Goldsheaf back to the other refugees to eat and rest. He will check in with the souless kid he made a promise to and played games with too. Telling them that they found the fruits that caused this to them, stopped the bad guys that started it and it should only be a matter of time to help them get back to normal now. He goes to talk with Shionne too eventually but doesn't bother her at first. letting her have some time to process before privately talking with her later... or well... as privately as Nef allows as she doesn't trust Shionne at all and keeps a keen eye on her the entire time to make sure she doesn't do anything weird. other then that he's just helping around until any group meeting or next event.
Watching Vin, Sam is reminded of the fruits. “Wonky fruits, even,” he mumbles to himself but slowly warms to the idea…
“Wonky fruits, Sam repeats to Gewyn and Elthana. What if the fruits somehow make people… suggestible?” Sam asks. “Like hardly nobody is wary of the Fay despite them being from another world and their others from the world attacking and all. What if the fruits make people compliant and the soulless just ate too much and overdosed or something?”
Regardless of how the others react, Sam will be eating from his own rations and drinking from his own waterskin, thank you kindly.
Vin nods to Sam. The half-elf seeming to agree, "That makes sense Sam. Which means they can probably be treated too. Perhaps a special kind of medicine or something. I'm sure the fruits I handed over can be used to come up with a cure. Perhaps they can even use their magic to cure the symptoms now they know the source of the effects. I got a few of them still with me as well. They might prove useful for other medicinal effects. Of course, if they need more samples of them I'll hand them over. I really believe that we can save everyone affected by them. It'll be nice to see the kids running around on their own again and not just stuck in this state." Vin partakes of food offered to him as it would be rude to refuse the gift. He smiles and is sociable with folks around the refuge and although he is probably no where near as skilled as Gewyn in recounting the tale of what happened he does answer any questions he can that are asked of him.
Gewyn holds Elthana's look for a long moment before saying, "But we didn't lose. We didn't lose at all." He looks in his hand mirror, as though looking into the distance. "And on the contrary, I think in a way, Rynwell has been dying for a long time. What we did back there, that was justice and mercy both."
He watches Elthana smash her hand on the ground. "There will be opportunity to speak of these things with her yet. There is still much talking to be done."
"Offense absolutely taken, Sam! It is not my nature to which I owe my deceit, but rather thousands of hours of practicing and honing my craft!" He chuckles. "I'm a storyteller. A bard. I am deceitful by profession."He adopts a thoughtful expression. "But for Shionne and the others, perhaps it is simply that their truths are of a different nature than ours. Or, perchance, I may be speaking out my ass"
Sam narrows his eyes and studies Gewyn trying to take the measure of him. He seems different than the Gewyn that started this journey and Sam is not sure the change is for the more trustworthy...
"The latter, I think," Sam grunts. "I'm not good at hurting things because I was born Half-Orc. It sure as hell gave me an advantage in the area though..."
After a meal that could be considered hearty despite the temporary setting of the survivors last night in the forest, Vin wanders off followed by Neferox, out of the cave and into the night.
After a couple of moments Terry moves into the cave, casting a wary glance at Muir before addressing the group as a whole, minus Vin, "if you'll please come, Shionne would like to speak with you all, she has collected herself and says that she owes you all an explanation before we depart." With that he makes his way out of the cave and beckons the group to follow, leading them to a nearby tree where Vin appears to be already speaking with the golden glowing dryad, a whole broom floats just under his hand.
As mentioned, Sam partakes only of his own rations. He doesn't make an issue or a show of it though. He does allow Boris to eat some of the proffered foodstuffs, boars can eat anything Sam assumes. Órga, however, runs free for a few hours and hunts for his own food. If he can't find enough them Sam will begrudingly feed him from the hostages food as well.
When summoned Sam will look to his teammates and likely notice for the first time that Vin had snuck off. Snuck or not, that is how Sam would describe it since he should have known to tell the others where he was going and why. "Anyone know where the kid is? And his dog?" Sam asks, a bit worried.
If anyone saw him leave or not Sam will eventually shrug. Likely as not the kid'll turn up, they wouldn't want to miss Shionne...
Indeed, Vin is already talking with the dryad as neferox watches them with keen eyes and a clear impression of distrust from the hound. She isn't stopping them from talking though as Shionne is handed the broom now mended again. It floats by his hand for a bit and he takes it. A bit unsure what to do with it but it's accepted. As the others show up they would hear the young man talking in elven with Shionne.

"Thank you Shionne. I don't think you need to blame yourself. I don't know all the details of what happened but when you're ready I would love to hear the tale of you four. In the meantime; I will try my best. It's all I can do. Try not to burden the others and help where I go. It just... feels right to me. I'll look after this and hopefully Bry'ze will enjoy their time with me."
Vin touches the floating broom again as if trying to see how it will react. Neferox definitely notices the others coming and upon seeing them she seems to relax a little bit but still goes back to closely watching Shionne. When she notices the others Vin seems to have his attention brought over to the others arriving and says "Oh! Hello everyone. Are we having that meeting now then?" He looks to Terry. If everyone is gathering around to listen to Shionne's tale Vin will look at the broom a bit curiously and try to sit on it to as a seat while they all listen to her tale.

Muir steps aside with Terry and speaks in Sylvan
